Hi All

First post although been lurking in the background for a while now!

Finally my time has come and I can now afford to start looking for a Fabia VRS. Is there anything I should specifically look for other than that its been serviced on the dot?

Also what are the servicing intervals supposed to be?

I have done a search but nothing seemed to crop up so any advice or help would be really appreciated!

Try a google search. eg "Briskoda Fabia buyers guide" I always use google search rather than the Briskoda search, seems much better.

I have silver and if I had to replace it I'g go silver again.

Best of luck!

Joe

Why only silver or black?

Silver, easy to keep clean.

Black, needs cleaning constantly. (No problem for these lot. Lol)

Red is nice. Wink wink, nudge nudge.

Hello and Welcome to Briskoda. :hi:

As mentioned above, I'm sure you can find threads with common faults that Fabias suffer and what to look out for.

If you have only 2 choices of colour I have this opinion. Black cars (like mine) look much better than Silver when clean and polished. Black gives a much better and deeper shine than any other colours. However the big disadvantage with them is they don't seam to keep clean looking for long. Silver is one of the best for hiding muck.

Skoda do produce Fabias in other colours, Red (Corrida Red) looks very good, although Yellow doesn't (IMHO Yellow SEATs look good though). If you want a vRS then I think the Race Blue Special Edition looks the best, however it may be out of your price range.

Hi and Welcome

The special edition in blue with leather seats looks B) but I'm not sure is worth the extra money, both black and grey looks good. As an aspiring VRS my self, I would be looking for general conditions, history and rear door seals

Thanks for the information guys!

Used Google to search the site instead of the inbuilt search, seemed to work better. Found a nice document detailing what should be serviced and when.

I have considered red. But my dad has a red car and its started to fade which really put me off. Although I must admit it does look really nice!

Blue is way way out of my price range, I have set aside a budget of £7,000 with a max mileage of 60,000

It's now just a case of finding the right one for the right price I suppose! :D

Remember that if you buy a used Skoda from a Skoda dealer, you *should* get 1 year warranty with it :) (I certainly did when I bought an Octavia a few years back)

www.skoda.net.r66.co.uk

Great place to start looking.

Tick the Fabia vRS at the top left, postcode in, job done :)

would you not be interested in a yellow one

I'd definitely stay away from black as they are a nightmare to keep clean and show all stone chips and scraps, etc, although very nice when clean and polished lol

Thanks for the link Gorebrush. Been looking through all the dealers in the Hampshire area, Found one in Winchester so going to probably take a look at the weekend.

Still undecided between silver and black though! =/

I have seen a yellow one in person and to be honest wasn't really a fan Ian :/

Red is my favourite and I've got a silver one (after six months without a car just wanted to get back on the road - finding an unmodded one in good nick with FSH was more important than colour).

When cleaned and polished black ones look great but too much work!

I like red as well.......

Silver cars are for lazy people :p

Not sure about the consistency of the Skoda dealer cars, but went to view the one in Basingstoke, was keyed, clearcoat peeling, bulging tyre and gappy service history, plus only came with a 3 month warranty. I'm happy to pay a premium for a dealer car, but only when I get the benefits

Silver it is then!! :giggle:

Still open to the colour though, I think its more a case of what ever comes a long at the right price and the best condition along with optional extras!

I went to see one from a dealer near Southampton on Sunday, was in shocking condition, kerbed alloys, flakey service history etc, but then again the price reflected that.

As for warranty, they also suggest towards a 3 month warranty.

Would prefer to buy from dealer than private to be honest even with the extra premium

I bought mine direct from a Skoda dealer with a 1yr warranty. Turns out my front bushes needed changing as well as my EGR valve and neither was covered. The warranty was with the AA so tbh I would have no concern buying from a non Skoda garage so long as they provided some kind of warranty.

I prefer silver to black, not just because I have a silver Fabia myself. Have owned a black car previously and yes it looked good when it was clean, but a silver car looks amazing in the sunlight and at nightime. You see way more detail in the styling.

Make sure the belts have been changed, check for feathering to the rear wheels (seems to be a common problem), check the rear carpets are not wet (get them to fix the seals and seal the inside of the doorcard), have a look at the EGR to make sure not too much oil.

Always test drive a few cars and get a feel for them, that way you should notice if youre driving a pig.

Just to add. If you buy a fabia vrs in any colour and stay a member of this site, you will soon be turned into a wanna be car detailer and will all of a sudden have OCD about how your car looks.

So don't worry about red fading!!! You won't let it happen without even knowing. :)

I bought one with a few niggles. It came up locally and I didnt want to travel the 40+ miles (had no car, live in the sticks) to the next nearest car.

I got over £1k knocked off compared to perfect one. I got it sorted fairly cheaply, with the exception of having a full re-trim. I negotiated £300 off for a cracked wing mirror and broken fuel flap, then paid a local chap £60 to rectify both and fit a front splitter. There was other stuff too like a bald tyre and scratched alloys.

If you have the time and the contacts or skill to sort out a few niggles then don't let it put you off, as long the price is right and the car is mechanically sound with FSH.

Popped a deposit down on a 55 Plate Silver vRS this evening. Full Service history, serviced on the dot with 56k on the clock, only optional extra was cruise which I really wanted.

Getting the windscreen replaced as it had three chips in it and there was a slight mark on the bumper so they are going to spray that out.

All for £5600 including my current car. Cant wait to pick it up now!

Officially part of the Fabia vRS club now :D

Good stuff. Wait a til you get bored before you remap it :p

Like said above full service history is the most important thing and that should be every 10,000 miles or every year which ever comes first. Oil changes are very important and only use good oil. Bodywork and other bits n bobs are minor as you can tidy things like that.

As for used car dealer warranties ain't worth the paper they are written on. They are just insurance warranties they like taking your money but don't like paying out. When it comes to the crunch they put everything down to wear and tear.

So owners and service history is the key to getting a good car.
