Budget FMIC?

Featured Replies

I am on the lookout for a new FMIC, however I am on a pretty strict budget, after being a little pesimistic about the canward racing I/C spray and it's "real world increases" I believe it wont do that much for me and my remapped Fabia, the only real way to keep the air cool is to opt for a new FMIC. I have e-mailed Allard Turbo Sport and await a reply, whats the best budget price FMIC out there? obviously I want to uprate, but I simply can't afford

my mate might have a cossie one you could buy. if interested i can get sizes and prices for ya

Dont think theirs such thing as a budget FMIC unfortunatly :(

Whats the problem? you need to prioritize.

ive not got a fmic cos i cant justify it living in the uk... fine, it would be great for the 5 days a year its really hot.. but it doesnt give any extra power (dyno proven) and youll just learn to live with it. i have.. and ive only had serious heatsoak 3 times... on a very very hot day... booting it from 0-100

try telling thast to people on here that have them fitted to their cars and use them in the UK, colder air is always better. and an FMIC will get the air colder than the standard IC can. but i can't say for myself untill i get mine done next month (remap and FMIC among other things)

but thats on a petrol engine....diesel engines are not as sensitve to heat as petrols are.. but they run a higher boost so the turbo heats up quicker.. a diesel engine wont explode if the air is too hot because it doesnt get detonation.. it just smokes a bit more. :)

my point being.. you have to be trying *very* hard to get the engine to pull back the boost when your clogging it. other than that, it suffers general sluggishness.. the same way as ANY other car will on a hot day.

Cheaper alternative is to give the existing IC a better supply of cold air ;)

and a better exit for the hot air. ;)

What can be done to increase the cold air going to the Fabia vRS'S I/C then? Also do you mean a decent exhaust system for hot air?

Looking at my Vag-Com logs - admittedly taken during winter months - the highest intake manifold air temperature I've found was 55

I mean that if you cut vent holes in the wheel arch liner behind the intercooler, then all the hot air can just escape and it will have a constant supply of cool air moving around it. ;) Not done it yet, but shall be doing this myself soon.

Dont really think theres a budget FMIC option. :(

Damn that was my secret ;)

you could also make some better ducting from the vent in the bumper to direct the air better :D

Having fog light in the way doesnt help either :(

Must try this IC vent mod soon.

So get rid of them. :D

I'll see how I go in the summer. If needs be i'll get rid of the fogs and put a vent in the back.

I don't believe the i/c from the Golf will fit.

i/c spray or water/methonal injection work well on petrol engines...would this be the same for a diesel?

So theres probably no budget option for a FMIC.. perhaps a group buy is in order to help things along? :)

In theory the spray should work - it seems the canward one works on a timer basis (but can also be set up for boost activation i think) whereas the autospeed one is more complicated so i understand.

canward one as you say is timed, when you flick the switch in your dash it activates for 10 seconds which is enough to last 5 minutes of full throttle driving. They also do an "auto" one which works off the boost from the turbo, however I would opt for the manual one just so I have control as to when it sprays.

Should be easy fit according to canward, but i'm not sure where I would but the reservoir.

Use your washer jet fluid (just put water in) and it should work fine, dont like the idea of having a full seperate resovoir for the water & im concerned that the button in the dash wont fit in with the rest of the vRS, if it does, will it light up the same and have the dimming functions at night? I know this is nit picking but if I were to opt for it, it'd be because it was a stealth installation and not some bodge job. Dont fancy spending

The switch would probably be hidden somewhere out of sight but in easy reach. although you could probably wire in a switch into one of the blanks above the stereo if you really wanted to.

Would have thought the water mist would evaporate on contact with the hot IC and really dont think corrosion would be a problem.

Might as well go for the seperate reservoir if its easy to fit. im i bit trigger happy with the screen washers anyway!

Cheers
