Car broken into!

Featured Replies

It's worth noting for general information that this is only possible on the FL models. The OP has a 2006 model, and this is therefore not possible to enable under Maxidot.

Not sure this is quite right - I enabled it on my pre-fl one via Maxidot...but mine's 58.

I can enable the chirp, always good to have that second reminder along with the flashing indicators. I have a 2008 model Octy L&K and I'm sure the alarm chirp is enabled through the convenience menu in the set up folder. With the ignition on and MFD screen on the maxidot, press and hold the bottom of the rocker switch on the wiper stalk, eventually a menu will appear. Using the rocker switch scroll down to "set up" and select using the reset button on the bottom of the wiper stalk. Select and click on "convenience", select and click on "ATA confirm", select and click on "on", ON should then appear near the top of the page, then select and click on "back" all the way back to the start. Hope that helps.

Agreed my 2006, 56 plate allows me to enable and disable the chirp via maxidot

Electric garage door fobs can block the signals from the car fob to car as there on the same frequency, and yes it does work and the insurance companys know about it.

Very true. Almost a blessing in disguise, because perhaps if they had their mind set on emptying anything useful from the car, they wouldn't have minded cause as much damage as that required. At least this way getting that fixed up and sorted is avoided....

I had a 2007 pre-FL model and it WAS possible to enable it via maxidot.

Thats the jail mate...sorry to hear that :( Theres some thieving feckers about!!...I have sometimes forgotten to lock the door or thought i have but havent so the "chirp" set up would be good...does anyone know what menu it is in on maxidot?

Cheers

Kit :)

AFAIK the chirp is only available with the factory alarm, which isn't on Irish spec cars,

Apologies for the misleading info on the 'chirp' enabling via pre-FL Maxidot. It's just that I've never seen the option on any pre-FL Maxidot I've had, or done VCDS work to. Must have been unlucky!

Cheers,

Steve

I think you may be partly right wardy. My 55 plate l&k had maxidot but no ATA option so I had to turn on the chirp with vag-com. My 58 plate pre FL and 60 FL both have it in the maxidot.

I've always just activated it in VCDS, so have never gone looking for a Maxidot option TBH. Personally it doesn't strike me as an option that might need turning on and off, but I suppose it gives 'normal' people the option of turning it on in the first place!

I used VCDS to get the chirps enabled on my Fabia yesterday :)

I wouldn't be surprised Steve if it is another one of those options which has to be enabled via VCDS before you can get it to appear in the maxidot.

Ian

I instantly thought of that when it was mentioned, a bit like the CH/LH options magically appearing :)

But I definitely haven't had the option in Maxidot on both of mine after I've activated in VCDS. I can only put it down to a subtle change made in later revisions of Maxidot, on later model years.

Each time I look at the topics it makes me chuckle :giggle:

I could understand people being able to block the frequency by a mass broadcast on the same frequency they key uses, but without a fair bit of kit, how on earth do they crack the encrypted rolling key in a short enough time scale that it hasn't been rolled again?

Does anyone have any real proof that grabbing is actually feasible and that this isn't just based on the pre-encryption keys of the 90's which could be grabbed.

Hi there,

Really sorry to hear that your car has been broken into. From what you are saying, i.e. that you always lock the car and never leave it unlocked, my suspicion is that a local sh*te bag has bought himself a signal jammer and has used it in the vicinity of your car. The most updated jammers will actually give the car owner the impression that the car has been locked, ie the hazard lights will flash or alarm bleep as it would if you locked it normally. The only thing it won't do is actually lock the car.

My advice, speaking as a Police officer is to lock it using the central locking and then double check the car is locked by attempting to open the door by lifting the door handle. If you find that it is not locked still, use the key in the lock to lock it and call the Police.

I know that this is no consolation to you, and I would be gutted if it happened to me, but hopefully by you posting on here you have prevented another forum member becoming a victim.

Incidentally, if someone is caught in your area with a jammer in their possession they can be arrested for going equipped to steal.

Regards

Mark
