My New Leather Re-trim

Featured Replies

I wasn't too keen on spending near on a grand on a leather re-trim from seat surgeons but found a company that would take my trims, reverse engineer and re-create them in leatherette for me to re-fit. Here they are...

Now in all honesty they aren't perfect, I have had to tie wrap the backs at the bottom as they were an inch or so short and didn’t want to stretch them too much but you can't see that what so ever unless you put your head in the rear passenger foot well. And also the side bolsters on the drivers side doesnt quite fit in, as you can see from the 1st pic, but I reckon they should stretch with use and fit better.

In hindsight I wish I had stuck with the original mk1 VRS logo for the seats, but overall I’m very happy for the money, the material used is good quality and was better than I expected. The seats also feel alot comfier, bonus!

The company is called autoleathers.co.uk

All in all this cost me:

- Postage to send them - £10

- Temporary covers from Halfords - £10

- Covers and logo embroidery + delivery back - £217.50

- Hog rings - £3

- Hog ring pliers (essential) - £12.50

Total - £253

Opinions please?

That's cheap, but without wanting to sound harsh, looks a bit crap. Perhaps the pics don't do it justice and it looks better in person.

I'd much rather swap out the entire seats from a Polo GT, Ibiza FR/Cupra or Fabia Bohemia. Exactly the same as the originals, only in black.

IMHO - They look like seat covers. Maybe the pictures dont show them in the best way.

The back seats look a better fit than the front seats.

But if they are good quality and will last, they are a great alternative to some of the poor quality but still expensive seat covers you can buy and they will look a mile better as permanent seat covers B)

I'm with softscoop

They might be a third of the price of a seat surgeons retrim but looks about a third as good.

The material does look loads better than the standard (and normally filty) light grey material but I can't imagine having covers that don't fit properly and are either over stretched or too loose is gunna be good.

I guess time will tell - be interesting to see waht condition they are in in 10,000 miles time

Think they look good for the money mate, once theyve worn in and stretch a little bit and get them fitting a tad better then its a very good improvement imo!

Better than dirty off white anyway

Each to their own, I really couldn't live with that I'm afraid, looks a bit too "halfords" for me, I'd rather the fabric spray paint option if I really wanted rid of the light colour seats

Matt

i sat in the car last night and the seats do look good. back seats are perfect and when ya see them in the flesh they look just like standard leather seats. front drivers seat will sit nicely once driven a bit. i like em and ive sat in it :)

If you can make it to the next East Midlands meet, we can have a nosey at what they actually look like in the flesh ;)

Tbh you cant really grumble at the price a set of tailored seat covers are £160 for mucky joes

You get what you pay for I guess, they look a bit bodged and 'baggy' but for that price you can't complain. Defo better than the standard seats.

I'll be ordering a set of these when i finally get round to buying a fabia :)

Would be more honest to photograph where flaws are, and not just the good bits??

Otherwise, very effective overall result with the leather look.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Once more worn in? If anything they'll stretch more and look worse??!!

Glad I went to seat surgeons and had the full re-trim, Including door cards for £800 all in

Hi

Regards Whoosh

That's my thinking also.

I'm glad I paid £503 more for the real deal, they don't look right, sorry.

Good on you for trying. Better than standard ones IMO.

Look a bit cheap I'm sorry to say. Each to their own though buddy, I couldn't afford a seat surgeon re-trim either! If I didn't have leather already that is... :giggle:

As a few people have already said they look cheap and to be quite honest very tacky !

You get what you pay for and the price you paid certainly shows....

I just don't like the wrinkles and bagginess but where the leather is tight it looks nice!

Sorry IMO they are pretty nasty and de-value the car, a waste of £250 and will make the car hard to sell.

+1

Oh and leatherette is not leather, it's PVC.

"A disadvantage of plastic "leatherette" is that it is not porous and does not allow air to pass through it; thus, sweat can accumulate if it is used for car seat coverings"

where the leather is tight it looks nice!

Nothing like tight leather...
