Vw blue tinted mirror glass (FITTING GUIDE)

Featured Replies

Instead of cutting the old connectors off use 2.4mm spades, That way you can return it to standard should you want!

Excellent, we have possibly millions of spade connectors in the garage :)

Are they autodimming? Or just blue glass?

If its just blue glass i would of just added some blue tint laminx would work out cheaper :)

Hi i just bought some mirrors of Ebay.

Would i be ok to just splice the wires and then tape them up using electrical tape????

I dont have any of those bullet connector things :wonder:

It would work with tape but connectors would be better.

Get a small pack from Maplins.

If it's more than £2 I'd be surprised.

Thats what I said when I put them on my car about 9 months ago - they were fine in the winter months even without the heater element...

Kent maybe, but up North they do tend to freeze up and when you drive through different temperature zones, they tend to mist up - and these conditions prevail quite a lot in Winter "up North" (going from cold zone where the air will be dry, into a milder zone where the air is wet and so condenses on the cold mirror surface). To the OP, one point to remember, if you check both mirror heater out, even a burnt out one will "conduct" due to the backing material getting carbonated while the heater tapes burnt out - though a good one will have low resistance while a bad one will have highish resistance.

Just done this mod, unfortunatley the connectors I had weren't appropriate :( It's all bodged together with electricians tape though and seems to work absolutley fine :)

These are from the link above, Drivers side was fine, but the passagers side did not fit the clips on the mirror didnt line up so i have to cut and trip the clips off and use double sided sticky foam, hopefully it will stay in place..

Thanks mate

Odd how driver side fit and passenger didn't

Did you have to extend the cable like in the guide ?

Also is the mirror view like the original?

Yeah I extended the wires using a bit of cable out of some normal 3 core cable. Soldered then heatshrink.

I dont know why it didnt clip in, it was totally dif and couldnt be arsed to **** about and send back, cos I cracked the standard ones getting them off.

The views all the same and the drivers has a blind spot bit so thats a bonus. Nice cheap mod, just hope the passagers stay stuck.

could they have sent you 2 driver sides?

cant make out in the pics if they are the same

No the clips were totally dif full stop, plus the shape wouldnt have fitted the mirror?
