air rifle and alot of patience!

Get this problem all the while in sunny Devon. Although I did pay for the autoglym lifeshine,I have to say there bird muck remover wipes are great & should be available in halfords

Had this with my parents Swift it's a nightmare. What colour is the car?

Has it etched into the paint. If so, you may need to polish the bonet with a machine to remove them.. Investing in a good LSP will help to prevent damage but bird lime is agressive stuff.

thanks for the replys, looks like its burnt into the clear coat on top of my steel gray metalic paint, looks like a dull patch :'( .

In another thread (about keeping alloy wheels clean) I said use Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection both on the wheels and on the car paintwork after using the normal Autoglym Super Resin Polish. Even if you only do the bonnet and roof it's better than nothing and will save the problems described here if you do it regularly.

rsmarco,what is lsp???

Will T-Cut sort the stain out???

Try claying it to lift the remaining contaminates. If that doesn't work then I'd personally flat it down with wet and dry and repolish using a machine.

Oh and with a few layers of something like colonite wax on there, it shouldn't stain so easily next time. :-)

Lsp is 'last stage product, I.e wax or sealant. Removing it ASAP is the best way to prevent it etching into the top coat.

I agree with the clay but wouldn't risk an abrasive. Try Chips Away orvsomeone like that.

I understand your concern but I've done it now on a good number of cars to amazing effect. :-) Having said that, maybe I wouldn't recommend it to someone that's not tried it before. Good luck with getting it sorted no matter what option you go with.

will meguiars quick clay be ok to use on metalic paint????

mike.

Hi,

You can try some 3M rubbing compound (basically it is a clear cut polish, which is often used by dealers to shine the cars). This is slighly abrasive, but it is the most frequently used product to restore shine in cars. You will need to get a buffing job done with the compound in the dull areas.

Yes. :-)

been looking at meguiars products, anybody used gold class wax,or nxt2.0 wax.both look like quality items.any other wax you can advise to protect the paintwork from bird ####.

As mentioned above, collinite. I use collinite 452, lasts for ages. Bit of work to put on but worth it. Used NTX 2.0 before, gave nice shine but didn't last that long.

After neglecting the wax reapplication and general paintcare of my four year old Fiesta over the last year (due to all my attention going on Beti!) I thought Id better use the above method for sorting out some bird crap marks and general scratches. I flat and polished the whole car over two days. It now has three layers of Collonite on also. :)

Some of the materials:

Flatted with wet and dry paper:

A quick, course polish:

A finer polish:

The rest of the passenger side being prepped:

The depth of finish is really quite amazing:

Beading due to Collinite. And any bird crap would now simply wipe off the paintowrk without damage:

Wow! That is awesome!

Thanks. Wasn't sure anyone on here appreciated the photos of work done on a Ford! :D Posted to show that anyone can do it (yes, even me!) and to show that I do actually follow my own forum advice - my bird lime is well and truly gone and the paintwork protected against future attacks

Sorry to hear about the stain on your bonnet.

I have this problem on an almost daily basis with seagull crap too, living on the coast. I use Car Plan-Bug Blitz, to generally make it easier to clean off. Thankfully had no permanant marks left on the aqua blue paint job. I guess if it's baking in the sun all day, thats's when you get problems.

Brilliant job lol, did you use a buffer or do it by hand?

Gerry

Prep was done by hand. My Meguiars G220 and another machine where used for the rest. :-)

Thanks for all of the tips. Put some Collinite No. 476S - Super Doublecoat Auto Wax on today. Prepped with CarLack 68 - Nano Systematic Care. Looks awesome. Finished with RainX on the windows. I even love it on the front screen. Just drive fast with the wipers off. No smearing.
