Of the two , a PSP is the one to get , but the early ones have less than wonderful build quality.

The official UK ones are apparently going to be slightly redesigned and more solid

i had a lend of the ds for a week of my mate at work... and did not think it was great!

played mario and mario party on it and the screen was hard to see at times!

mate andy imported psp from japan and it looked really good, and being sony i think they will start to move in front with games!

anyone know when you can get the uk psp?

When you see both in the flesh, the DS is "neat design" but the PSP is "oooooh slick"...

Will be PSP for me I think...

www.Play.com say 25th March,

PSP!

Looks amazing, plus i always find nintendo games are aimed at kids (ooooh controversial)

Cant you use the psp as an MP4 player, store loads of music on it etc?...that would swing it for me.

Don't bother with the DS. Two of the guys in the office have PSPs they imported from Hong Kong, and frankly, they're stunning. They can even connect to the wireless network, so I wouldn't be surprised to see web browsers and even sat-nav available for the PSP soon.

Just looking at the games and you can see the PSP blows the DS away. A year ago, I'd have said go for the Nintendo console, but once again, the Big-N have lost their way and let the competition get the better of them.

Cant really compare the 2 really, apart from the time that they are released. The DS is geared more towards the fun factor keeping the kids quiet in the back of the car market and has the games to match. Only game worth buying it for is mario kart and possibly zelda when it appears.

The PSP is more of a portable media device with bells and whistles, its more geared towards the home player who is sitting in front of the tele and theres nothing on so they grab the console by their remote.

It all depends what you want to do and play....

Personally I want the PSP because i have a GBA and game cube and get my kiddie games on there, i want something to couple with my PS2

I agree. We bought a PSP for my son off Ebay for his birthday. It's a Japanese import but works great. It's an incredible piece of kit

There are UK companies that will sell you one, but they want

One thing that hasn't been answered to my satisfaction is the issue of game compatibility.

I don't want to buy a PSP on import, only to find they do that silly thing like region-coding the games as they do with the PS2 and Xbox stuff so that i can't play games bought in the UK on a PSP bought from (for example) the singapore market region.

If a psp bought elswhere in the world will play games retailed from another part of the world (because let's face it, Sony still get the money at the end of the day) then I know what I'll be buying for less than UK list when I go to Singapore in a few weeks..... :P

You can probably get them to chip it in Singapore....I got my PS2 from Malaysia and had it chipped to play copied games and play multi region dvds.

Make sure you get a brand new one and not a refurb one.

Will get you the name of a good electronics mall to go to.....can't remember the name of the one we went to.

AFAIK and dont hold me to it, but because its got its screen built in - it doesnt need region encoding because you wont be operating at pal/ntsc...

or JFGI!!!!!

I don't think the foreign ones are region coded, you should be able to play any game on them. I'm sure thats what the guy at work said,

Might be worth having a look on the net for a defo answer though.

Would have thought any of the operators in Sim Lim Square/Orchard road would have to be reputable - Singapore have incredibly stringent consumer protection laws, but a recommendation always welcomed.

I may take a trip to a place down Tottenham court road that sells imports as thats the main thing stopping me from buying it now.

Also, how come play is getting it in at the end of March, yet Amazon says end of April????

What region games do the bods at your work have?

Europe and Japan are the same region, ASAIK.

Europe and Japan are the same region, ASAIK.

Thats for DVD's, he means game locking, so a Jap game won't play on US or EU machines and visa versa and is brand dependant (gameboy does not have it, but PLaystations and Xbox do).

According to websites I have seen, film and music content will be locked (whether it is like dvd or not is another matter), but they are not too sure on the games.

i've gotta agree, the psp does look sooo slick and the screen is meant to be pretty amazing. if i was going to get either it would be that one. but i've played ridgeracer on the ds and that game was totally badass

Good place to go is Sim Lim shopping centre.....IIRC 6 floors of electronic (cameras, hifi, etc) and pc stuff.
