Setting the secondary speed to mph

Featured Replies

Hello, apologies for a rash of silly questions from a newbie.

My secondary speed display on my scout is in kmh and for the life of me and having even followed the instructions in the handbook cannot access the menu of the MFD to change this to match my speedo. I have tried pressing the button on the end of the 'stalk' but this does nothing. In the manual it says press for two seconds to bring up the menu. Which it doesn't. So how do I access the setup?

Thanks for any replies.

Apparently as the speedo itself has no Kmh markings, the display has to show Kmh regardless of whether you want it or not. There are some other threads on here with the same question - but no answer other than it can't be done. Hey ho.

Thank you for such a quick response. Thank you for humouring a newbie. I'll get my searching for previous posts sorted out as soon as I find my way around this marvellous forum

This can be changed but you need to use VCDS.

It doesn't actually change the small display but will give you a larger digital speedo in mph.

Is it by changing it to another country eg Australia ? or is there another way ? cheers - Stuart

Yes, you change the country coding to Australia. It must be done with VCDS, a dealer will not be able to do this as there kit will not allow access to the required coding.

Hi WildernessGuide,

It can be done very easily in about 5 minutes, however you do need to get in touch with someone that has VCDS. Check on the VCDS forum for a member near you with the right kit, and as correctly mentioned above - you need to set the country bit to Australia first before the menu option appears back on the MFD..

I had it done on my Octy the day after it was delivered, works a treat.

It does actually change the small KPH display to the outside temperature, then you also get the large MPH digital display in the MFD options list..

The small KPH display can then be turned on again whenever you want (when driving abroad) by activating it in the MFD

Can confirm that setting cars country to Australia definitely works.

If you are in South Wales area am happy to code your car to do this for you.

Hi, which module byte bit please? Before I storm in and brick my car !

Ummm I forget off the top of my head ...

Wasn't difficult though - went into the Long Code Helper on the relevant module, countries were there to pick.

Do you know if it is possible to change the kph settings on a FL Octavia with a non maxidot display?

Thanks Guys, managed to change country to Australia in module #17 Instruments, byte 0 = 71 with coding helper.

Then ticked speed box in MFD data selection, deselected alt.dist.

Works a treat, got a big MPH digital readout

I can help anyone do this around Devon area. :) I think I will be doing this on a yokel's car when his octy 2 arrives soon.
