Incorrect spec on new car

Featured Replies

I've had a Superb Estate 3.6 v6 Elegance 4x4 on order since March with a load of options: Park Assist, Sunset Glass, Heated seats, windscreen nozzles, MDI, Kessy, 3 spoke steering wheel and a few others. A month into the order I added Electric Tailgate and got a correctly drawn up order sheet to that effect. (I only mention this as it is not clear whether it is the infamous Skoda ordering computer or dealer error. Dealer says Skoda error)

Needless to say the car has now arrived as is missing the electric tailgate.

I have told the dealer I am thinking about rejecting the car and we have agreed to talk again in the next day or so. I don't have to have the car right now (continue to operate a family runabout which we intend to keep). Financing is not part of the issue.

I would be happy to own this car at this spec, but not at the new price. I intend keeping it for 8-10 years.

What do you think the correct discount (or package) would be in this situation given that it strikes me that it isn't a vehicle with particularly high demand?

Looking forward to your views!

You either want the car in it's current spec in which case the price you agreed (before you added the electric tailgate) should IMO be paid, or you genuinely forgot to include the electric tailgate at the time of ordering and really do not want the car without it - it however seems that you are happy with the spec but now it has arrived you want to try your luck by renegotiating a larger discount than you did when you placed the order?

With waiting lists as long as they are I would be surprised if they discounted it further, if you feel so strongly about it then reject the car and start again.

I didn't negotiate a discount when I placed the order, I agreed to pay the price that it was offered at, ie the widely marketed "we pay your VAT" campaign. But I take your point. I didn't "genuinely forget" - I changed my mind, like a lot of people do, after reading forums like this and talking to people. It made me more attached to this particular option in fact rather than say KESSY.

But I am trying to keep the emotion out of it - I could cope with the car, but I will be driving around in it forever wishing I had the electric boot. I have been asked by the dealer to tell him what I would like him to do, which is why I am here asking you guys. At the mo' I am very much minded to reject it - I can wait till next year if needs be.

Personally speaking (as an owner of the electric tailgate) if you use the tailgate frequently then I would reject the car and order what you really want I wouldn't be without my electric tailgate - but I am in it at least twice a day.

However what you need to weigh up is how much more the 'replacement' car will cost you ... can you get a 20% discount from anyone now?

The electric tailgate is so slow I reckon I could raise mine manually and close it by the time the electric item has opened fully. £500 is far better spent elsewhere. It wouldn't put me off having the car. I had it on my last car (std) and I haven't missed not having it on this one. Unless you're built like the guy on the Mr muscle adverts it is no effort to open and close yourself. If you reject the car for that I think you're shooting yourself in the foot.

When my car was delivered it didn't have HHC on it although at the time it was shown as standard equipment. Skoda UK offered me a goodwill gesture of £555 which I was happy to accept. I would take the car, deduct the price of the tailgate and negotiate a goodwill gesture!

Speak to Skoda Customer Services (08457 745 745), you'll need your SLi number which they can find but it saves time if you can get it from your dealer.

If you've got the car at home somewhere, check the data sticker which is in the front cover of the service book or under the boot floor. Check to see if it has PK6 printed on there.

Nice car by the way!

Get the tailgate. So glad I ordered it, I would not be without it now.

Phil

Oh no. I really feel for you, what a decision to have to make.

I have also had a 3.6 V6 on order since March and added the electric tailgate after initial order. I was expecting a call from the dealer yesterday or today, but have heard nothing! I'm worried I may now know why :(

I started reading your post & thought that maybe I had posted & forgotten about it!

From what I can see, they havent delivered what you ordered, you ordered a car with an electric tailgate, doesnt matter whether it was at the initial time of order or if you ordered that extra before the car went into production, they accepted the changed order, they gave you a print out with the revised specification, so therefore you shoudl get what you ordered.... simple, they havent delivered what was ordered so in my mind you should be entitled to a new replacement car to your specification with no penalty incurred i.e. loss of discount etc etc

If you do decide to have the car as it has been delivered then, they should obviosuly reduce the price of the car accordingly, and then you should be in a position to be able to negotiate some sort of good will gesture/discount.

Imagine if you were a disabled person, you ordered a car with electric tailgate, and they delivered one without, car would be rejected, regardless of what Skoda try and say, they took the order, they should deliver to your spec, simple, end of.

The whole point of the electric tailgate is it is already open when you get to the car (use the remote to open it) then by the time you are in the drivers seat it is closed again - no more getting your hands dirty in the winter .

The electric tailgate is a must have! Reject the car and re-order, at the same price as the previous.

this is a very ugly situation.

You can reject the car and re-order but the problem is that you will wait a lot of time. If this isn't a problem, and if they don't offer a substantial discount , i think you should wait for a new one.

A substantial discount, as you didn't received any discount's on ordering, is at least 5%.

Thas why it Latvia it is impossible to change your mind after after you placed order ! Purchase of car is not buying peace of cake so you have to think about all spec for longer time not just spontaneous ! I also wanted to add kessy but it was impossible....

But in my mine you also have to feel blame for this fault

I'm well aware of what the point of it is, thank you. My issue with it is, it's over priced and poorly engineered (it moves far too slowly) I can open and close mine manually much faster than the electric version runs and as for saving getting your hands dirty? press the external release with one finger and the gas struts open it, then use the internal handle to pull it closed. Not much likelyhood of getting dirty from that. Each to their own however, if you think that £500 for a slow remote tailgate is money well spent, you enjoy it.

AigariTTO is very important when you change your order:

- If you change the order when the car went into the production line ... it is true you can't change the order in this case.

- If you change the order with few days before going to production is risky can happen something like this.

- But when you are suppose to wait 6-8 months and you change the order after 1 month after ordering the car, the producer (skoda) have no excuse.

I fail to see how it being slow is an issue, when I get to my car the tailgate is already open whereas a manual one would not be!

Now if you wait until you reach the car to open the tailgate like you have to on a manual one then the electric version is clearly not for you.

As for the price I can't disagree with you there it is overpriced for what it is, but so is the Columbus etc ... and in the grand scheme of buying a £26K car that I intend to keep for a whilst is it really that much??

When I bought my car I specced it with all the toys that I wanted and then looked at the final price and compared that to what I could buy for that amount elsewhere with the same spec, the answer kept coming back the same - a 3 year old car V's a new Superb.

No problem, your money=your choice :)

Exactly what I THOUGHT my position was. Over 8-10 years I m sure i ll discover it may not have been worth it but at £50-60 p.a. (or a £5 a month - thats about a £1 a week - not a lot compared to a £2.50 Cappuccino etc...)

Now I have seen a few You Tube videos on the Electric Boot I think i might manage without if push comes to shove - its just going to depend on the size of the shove....(apologies to all non English Mother Tongue posters, its a sort of "don't sit on the fence" idiom).

Thanks for all your comments , they have been very helpful both individually and as a whole. I think I'll reach a conclusion one way or the other by early next week for a delayed delivery later in the week if we can find a satisfactory conclusion.

+1 my very same thoughts.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Same sort of thing happened to me when I ordered my VRS Estate 4 yrs ago.

At the time of order they were doing a load of free options, bigger wheels, jumbo box etc..., a week before I was due to pick it up the dealer phoned me and asked me if I wanted a sneaky peak at my new car, of course I went, and no free options, the dealer had forgotten to tick the box.

VERY long story cut short, the dealer revised the price on the car down, a lot, added a few personal extras for me, it's a company car but they gave me the authority to accept or reject the car, and I have been driving it ever since.

It's a chance to haggle the sticker price down, discounts ARE available on new cars and if you paid the sticker price (ignore the 5% VAT issue that's Skoda UK's incentive) you just have to have to stick to your guns or the dealer could be holding onto a £25K plus car until either they sell it or Skoda UK find a home for it.

Good luck!

I`m surprised that no-one has asked this :

Did you ask if it would be possible to install that elelcric tale-gate opener afterwards ? I`m sure that that parts are available......

I did - not possible I am told.

It probably is possible to retro fit BUT previously Audi owners have found it is very costly to retro-fit the electric tailgate, not to mention half of the car would probably need to come apart to get the necessary wiring loom into place, this is why Skoda will claim "it cannot be done"
