EVO Test of Monte Carlo

It wasn't aimed at you, SR, i had noted your earlier comments, yours just happenned to be the last post, perhaps I should have made it clearer! However it is obvious some people do need reminding about HC 144... However, whilst I admire your comments about relaxing, etc, I suspect that if you were actually driving a slower car and had planned an overtake, got alongside and then some idiot had decided to floor it leaving you on the wrong side and in a dangerous position even you would not be quite as calm as you make out, especially if they then matched your speed even when you slowed down to drop back in!

As you say some people just don't like being overtaken, I feel rather sorry for them really, all that ego being challenged every time someone pulls alongside!! At least I just stick to the muttered verbals, I just hope that they don't try it on the violent type, there have already been a few deaths and serious injuries due to such "road rage", perhaps the threat of that may do more than just quoting the highway code... perhaps they understand that threat better! ;)

Mini's don't like being overtaken. Though it was just because I was in the vRS but it happened for about 25miles in my parents Swift coming back from Middlesborough. I'd overtake then the mini pulled out and sat on my bumper until I pulled in. He then overtook and sat in from of me slightly less than the speed limit. Don't undertand why people bother.

As for putting you foot down if a slower car is overtaking just don't do it. Takes them ages to gain momentum but can lose it very quickly. Just leave them get on with it.

Lesson learned I think.

I'm still a bit unclear as to what lesson you were trying to teach him...not to overtake?

And here was me thinking it was Audi drivers that are complete knobs... looking at this thread it would appear that a fair number of Skoda drivers are too... Is that because they know they have VW/Audi components in their vehicle?

Sorry, but if someone is overtaking safely and is in a slower car then they really won't thank you for making it more difficult. I've had low powered cars and really resented people in faster cars speeding up or even worse, speed matching when over taking them. I mean, what is the point? If you're in a hurry then you can over take too. If you're not overtaking then presumably you're happy to tootle along behind the slower traffic so why make it difficult for the person overtaking?

Put far better than I, Raglits... Its an ego thing, I think... Not just limited to VAG either, in fact the only ones I don't find doing it are ones in true sports cars, not hotted up hatches, probably because they don't feel they have anything to prove?

Egos!!!!! :giggle: .......big cars........small manhoods........compensating.....

Wheres that TAXI! B)

I guess it's just the saying used in that situation tbh! Just the fact that because you drive a Mini doesn't mean it's fast. Possibly a poor choice of words on my part!

As for this thread in general, It's went a fair bit off topic and I think some people are taking some things a bit too far. No one's actually went and said "Yeah I put this guy right in the shi**er, he was overtaking into oncoming traffic".. Most people have been having a bit of friendly banter and haven't put anyone in any sorts of danger.

If my own comments have been put across in such a way that people have assumed I've put anyone in danger, I can assure you, I have fun in the car, only when completely safe to do so. As i said, my own experience was on a dual carriageway and the person was never past me nor was there anyone else on the road.

Anyone for a chat about the Monte then? :) (seen as thats what the posts actually about! )

I thought you were talking about Monte....well minis....they did the Monte??

TBH my previous car was a Polo SE...base spec Polo but with the sports bumbers and lights from the 16v..I also added various elec goodies and rear spoiler.....looked very nice but in an engine size that I could afford to insure and run...so the Monte is a little cracker I think! B)

haha fair shout! never even thought of that!

Yeah, i've seen a couple whipping about. Being in a rather fortunate position I managed to buy myself a VRS and afford insurance and all the rest of it (at 20 years old) but had I been looking for something a bit more eco and still looked the bees knees, i'd have very probably considered the Monte, I think in some respects it actually looks nicer than the VRS, only problem is, you can't get the monte in green! haha!
