turbo blown already

Featured Replies

Don't know if anyone else has experienced this yet, or whether I am just unlucky but I got my VRS 7 weeks ago and already my turbo has supposedly gone! First sign was the exhaust control light came on and then never went off, so I phoned my local dealer who have now looked at it and they have run a diagnostic on it and found that the turbo is either faulty or blown completly. They have emailed Skoda for advice and they are waiting for a reply but apparently it is a "known" fault. Fortunately, I can use the car, but after 4000rpm there is no power whatsoever! Kind of takes the fun out of my new toy when all that lovely power isnt there anymore!!! Has anyone else experienced this or similar - i'd be interested to know.

i am sure someone on here had a similar problem and it was an easy fix at the dealers, his was only a day or so old when it happened.

Haven't heard of anybody else having this problem and thankfully i've had no problems either. I think you have just been really unlucky but at least its under waranty but i know it must be a real pain in the a***e!! Hope its sorted

Must of missed that one then, Sorry

Yep there was something on here a while ago that sounded very simular. I think it was one of the guys who posted quite a bit in the build week 16 or 18 threads. It happened on the drive back from the dealers after collecting it. It tOok a couple of days to track the fault but was a quick fix no replacment turbo needed.

It would be worth your while searching around and finding the thread and showing your dealer could speed up repairs.

Just had a look and it was a guy caller dirty harri. There's a bit about it at the end of a thread called week 16 builds but I'm sure there is more in a tread that he started about the problem

Candy, don't worry. Your turbo isn't blown. If it was, your engine would have gone out to lunch too and the car would not be drivable. Probably just some sensor or air mass fault. Easy to fix in most cases, but unfortunate for you. Good luck.

Might not be a blown turbo but if there is a fault with wastegate it might require a new turbo.

If the turbo was blown they wouldnt of gave u it 2 drive round in!

Heres the tread. have a look and see if it sounds like yours

BAD WEEKEND

Thanks for all your replies, I hope you are all right in that it will be a simple fix! Harryweld - thanks for the link to the past thread, I have read this and although it sounds similar - I don't think its the same as I drove to work in the morning fine and when I came to go home the light was on from then and I also noticed the loss of power from then onwards - not whilst I was actually driving. Will keep you all updated when I hear anymore from the dealer/Skoda.

Could be what happened to mine, power was ok when supercharger was on but when it was revved it lost power, turned out that the valve which controls the supercharger and turbo charger was stuck and needed replacing, its been fine since. How many mile did you have on it?

Hope u get it sorted

Have heard back from the dealer today - it is the re-circulation valve that has gone and apparently it will take about 2 hours to change! Thankfully it doesn't sound too serious. The car has only done 1500 miles and i'm a bit shocked that its gone already, but hopefully it will now get sorted (going in on Friday). Many thanks for all your replies.

Just when I thought it was all going to be fixed and all sorted out - the car went in to the dealers today to have the new recirculation valve fitted and I get a phonecall telling me that it hasn't made a difference and that it is the entire turbo that has gone and will have to be ordered in! So another day off and more driving around minus a turbo. I am surprised I am still able to drive it, but they have assured me it is not doing any further damage just that the power is greatly down on the car - hmmmm - don't I know it! Re-booked in for beginning of August - so again fingers crossed it will finally get sorted then - will keep you posted! :(

Sorry about the problems. I am no expert by any means but surely the dealer would take the car in and give you a loaner rather than driving around with a blown turbo on half power ? I doesn't sound right to me. If my car was down on power like this I would leave it with them until its sorted and if it was going to take more than a day or two ask for a loaner.

Keep up posted.

I wouldnt be driving a car with a duff turbo and the dealer shouldnt of let u take it!! Phone skoda cust serv!!

just a quick update,my car was booked in for the 1 of august to have a new turbo,i recieved a phone call friday to say the turbo wouldnt arrive until the 4 of august. It is now booked in to be fixed on the 15,skoda uk have said if the dealers technician says it is ok to drive then they stand by his decision. The dealer has no more loan cars and if they fix it on the 15,that means it will have taken 1 month to repair.Im now looking at trying to get my money back as this is turning into a joke.So much for happy drivers.

I agree that a month to repair is not reasonable. sorry to hear of your bad experiances.
