Octavia Scout - arrived with specification not ordered - dealer wants extra £££

Featured Replies

Yeap - I know they are different things.

£1220 is what the brochure states as per your web-link & states that heated seats are included with the cost.

So my Maths makes above is correct in my mind.

£945 is the difference!

 We had Electric memory drivers seat and electrically adjustable heated and foldable door mirrors with auto dimming and memory function on the car that we hadnt ordered, dealer didnt even mention it, only realised when we got the car home, seems the factory slipped up on that one :thumbup:

Appears you are going the right way, you are in the driving seat on it & 10 days to the end of the month so holding out for a few days may presure the dealer depending on his figures, people will now be holding for Sep 1 del keeping his figures down which may play into your hands.

Does anybody have an up to date brochure regarding the cost of alcantara seats.

The one I have is from March this year states £1220 including heating.

Now I ordered heated seats which cost £275. So I reckon the extra is £945, with the dealer wanting £900 he's only knocked off £45.

Skoda customer service seem to agree that the dealer has knocked £500 off - i.e £1400 for the leather, down to £900. With heated seats extra on top.

The customer service people seem to be negotiating - and the cost seems to be coming down further which is good. I'll wait and see how much they can get the price down / servicing etc before contacting a solicitor. Speaking to a friend on the phone who is in the law reckoned try this approach before incurring legal costs.

Is the car ready for collection?? I'd be going mental, give them till Friday morning to either:

Give you your car which you are contracted to purchase at the contracted price

Give you a loan car and re order original car at contracted price

Compinsate you for the depreciation of the exchange car and the cost of another years MOT and servicing cost.

If they go for option one/two I'd also insist on a free 1st service for the aggro and being strung aloning. Be firm and don't leave it to them! Simples!

Wow, they want to charge you for their ****-up, and you are prepared to negotiate!?

You must be much calmer than me. The minute they mentioned discounting a £1000+ option I didn't want and therefore didn't order on a car I'd been waiting patiently for over 6 months I think I'd have blown my top!

As others have mentioned I'd be insisting on a replacement equivalent car while a new factory order arrives or that they give you the current car for the price agreed.

Anything less would see them with a letter from a solicitor.

I had this a few years ago, I had ordered a new ford fiesta and it was supposed to have 16" 5 spoke alloy wheels but when it arrived it had the the larger multi-spokes off the zetec s. The dealer offered to fit the original wheels or I could have the zetec s one's for nothing. So I got a wheel upgrade for nothing, the Skoda dealer should do the same thing.

Don't suppose you wanted a 1.8TSi Scout in Silver with auto-dimming mirror, bluetooth, polished alloys, multi-function wheel did you?

I have a friend who ordered a renualt a few years ago with leather seats. when the car arrived it did not have leather seats as the dealer had not realised that the model ordered could not have leather.

as the order form clearly stated leather, the dealer had to re-order the higher spec model for the same price, and as the original car had already been registered, my friend got to keep it whilst the new car is ordered.

DO NOT pay them any more money. Tell them that if you would have wanted leather/alcantara, dont they think you would have ordered it!!

then tell them that as a favour to them, you will take the car, not the other way round.

Good luck.

any update to this?

Simple case for Trading Standards.

Do not under any circumstances pay any more money than contracted.

So I spoke to Trading Standards - their view was reject the car as per the contract as a 10% deposit had been paid & wait for another one to be built.

This would have meant waiting a further 5+ months. The order times apparently are getting worse even on the petrol version. I need access to a 4wd car by the winter & the dealer would only lend us a 2wd hatch even if it snowed.

In the end we agreed to £400 - they chucked in a set of rubber mats / rubber boot liner. Inside and outside supagard treatments. 2 or so years of free services, including first oil change and some cost items. They delivered it to my front door - save a 100 mile round trip. There were a couple of bottles of wine & I think that was it.

Apparently they could have sold it on the forecourt for near list price which would have been £26 K we paid a shade over £19K.

Speaking to a couple of mates in law - it would have cost a bit to get a letter from a reasonable solicitor.

As the car we ordered is petrol - we haven't waited that long so would have had to have waited another 6-8 weeks to get to 24 week wait when a free loan car. It would have cost us more than £400 to borrow & hire cars to cover this time period even with a rubbish small car.

So its now been sat on the driveway since yesterday afternoon.

Deals done, put it all behind you and enjoy the car.

Sounds like you are happy with the deal that was reached so that is the main thing  - just enjoy the car now.

Sounds like a decent deal. The Scout is a cracking car, you will really enjoy it Im sure :thumbup:

Isnt the Alcantara trim lovelly :giggle::thumbup:

Echoing what others have said, £400 with all the extra's you got isn't that bad a deal at all.

Good luck with your new car.

Not a bad compromise in the end,

Now you can enjoy your car, knowing that your next few services are free

The services are worth the £400 so you did well!

Enjoy it!

As the dealer is a 100 mile round trip away I hope they agreed to collect and deliver back same day when they do the services and top the fuel back up LOL

I would have thought that "Contract Law" applies as soon as you paid your deposit( or even earlier at the time of signing the order and the dealer accepting it).

Breach of contract can involve the seller in paying any out- of- pocket expenses ( car hire etc) . You should have stuck to your Guns . It's not often you can get the pleasure of seeing a dealer squirm !

We can all be billy big brollocks & argue regardless but in the end lifes real, everyone makes mistakes & in this case it looks like with sensible negotiating he has achieved a good deal for him & a costly compromise for the dealer. Yes you are entitled to X Y Z etc but the dealer was within his rights to sell the car for many K more & provide a loaner from his PX fleet costing him little. The purchaser is then responsible for insuring & running that car, any damage caused & has a 5+ month wait for his new car.

For £400 hes got a better car & a load of goodies thrown in, A victory for common sense & looking at the deal in the end I would say a pretty reosnable dealer

I agree with Stuart as did a couple of my friends who are lawyers in the commercial sector. By the time you've got a lawyer to argue all this and that it would have cost more than £400 in legal time.

Anyway the car is great - and considering we were looking at an A6 allroad at £45k we've saved ourselves more than £25k to get a 4wd estate with a huge boot (bigger than the A6)

Glad to know you now have this sorted!

Just enjoy!

Agreed Stuart, my in-laws had a similar situation recently.

They had agreed a price on a used car with an independant dealer and paid a deposit.

When they got home the sales manager phoned them and told them there had been a mistake with the pricing and they would need to pay £900 more if they wanted the car.

They went to trading standards who informed them that since they had signed a contract the dealer was legally obliged to sell them the car at that price.

The relayed this to the dealer who then spouted some nonsense and tried to make out that they had done something illegally and said he could take them to court etc.

Now, if I had posted on a forum about it, I'm sure the majority would have said to threaten to sue, blah blah blah and get the car for the agreed price. But in reality it's not that easy and I doubt the garage would take much care in preparing the car or honouring faults/ warranty claims so in the end, even though they knew they were in the right, it was easier to just walk away.

To me it sounds as though a satisfactory outcome has been reached and the value of the 'freebies' is worth almost the £400 so if it were me I'd be happy with the outcome.

Enjoy your new car mate, it will be worth the hassle. B)
