Well you never know when they might come in handy......

And if you're going to do it properly you need the wishbones as well. On the S3 they are made of alloy. like the hubs, to offset the weight of the discs. ;)

Joking aside, thats a very interesting point as iirc the additional unsprung weight of the discs/calipers is in the order of 4kg - per corner! :o

Very surprised that Carl had to grind the calipers to fit behind Neptunes. R32 ones fit on mine with plenty of clearance. (note: my spacers are rear only, front is standard)

Just wondering if the Neptunes have changed slightly in the last few years. Mine is a 59 plate, so one of the first facelifted vRS's, I assume Carl's is slightly newer?

I have a MY2011 vRS.

I'm not the only person that has had to do it. I know if 2 others who had the same problem. I'll take a pic later when the wife gets in from work to show why. But without grinding the calliper edge (the bit nearest the centre of the wheel) it wouldn't have any clearance. Mine is an R32 kit as well.

As you say maybe they have changed the design of the wheels slightly but i don't think so.

Yup

They will fit behind 17" Zeniths however due to the spoke design on the 18" neptunes the Calliper needs a bit of persuasion with a Grinder :giggle:

As has already been said the Cupra/R32/S3 brakes are all the same the ONLY difference is the colour. I have them on mine and as long as your not bothered with adding a bit of unsprung weight (about 4kg per wheel iirc) they are a fantastic upgrade.

You also don't need to get the rears as the standard vRS 288mm rears are fine with these so it's win win all round

No idea then, but I have a good 4mm clearance. Will try and get a photo up later.

 Rumbled......I really should read the entire thread first!

Your not in Salisbury yet! are you? ;)

Nope. Tomorrow

Interesting info about the S3 hubs. I was going to ask why you'd want to change those over. Didn't know they were different/lighter as well, like the wishbones.

Yea the S3 hubs being ally is news to me. The wishbones are on my list but didnt know they had lightened the hubs aswell. Still doesnt justify the silly S3 price tag but at least we know its well engineered lol

Or that it's a bit lardy, so they had to resort to these sorts of measures! :p

Thank God they got it down to 1455Kg. Phew!

Ok, managed to get a few quick photos on the phone earlier. As you can see, there is at least 4-5mm clearance and before anyone says anything, I know it all needs a good clean!

Very strange, did you notice any negatives with those brakes nobafett, ie extra weight affecting cornering etc?

Not obvious from this angle but as Carl says a little trim with an angle grinder was needed.

No negatives at all. To be honest, I don't think you could notice a couple of extra kilos on such a heavy car. The extra stopping power far outweighs any extra weight that is added.

And a little wash of the wheels wouldn't hurt...... :p

Seriously though I saw them the other day and even after the grinding you are still talking rizla paper! :o

EDIT: That's not Carls car is it? His discs are 'J' hook!

No about 5mm but there is plenty of meat on the bit that was removed.

No not Carl's car. :giggle:

Here are mine. Yes I know the wheels need cleaning but as I'm moving house all my stuff is currently on the back of a removals lorry :(

Not the best pics as I took then with the phone but you get the idea.

Any reason why you didnt paint the "R" bit red too?

The R bit is a Clip on retainer. I like the look of it black tbh as it stands out. Although i do need to get a couple more as they got scratched when the dogs found them and thought it would be fun to throw them around the garage and chase them
