This sized tyre+ steel-wheel is what was on my (then new) 2005 Fabia VRS, as a spare. (205/45/R16)

My spare steel wheel was not as wide as the road alloy wheel to make a better fit, into the wheel well in the boot.

Sometimes a smaller rimmed wheel fitted with a larger sized tyre to make the difference up on height to the road wheel/ tyre, is fitted. (As my uncles Ford Mondeo V6)

In your case having a larger sized wheel to begin with, would require the 205/45/R16 low profile tyre to compensate for the extra wheel height, and equal the overall height.

Wheel bolt holes are another issue, having 5 or 6 holes.?

Suggest check this out with another Skoda dealer, or even look at the same model on the forecourt.??emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I think your sister need to go back to the dealer she should of had 15" spare wheel not 16" :dull:

I have a vRS and my spare wheel is15"

The outer diameter / rolling circumference of 195/55/15 and 205/45/16 are the almost the same.

However I would have expected the spare to be a 15" steel wheel with a 195/55/15 tyre fitted.

My car has 16" alloys with 205/45/16 tyres and was supplied with a 15" steel spare fitted with a 195/55/15 tyre.

I will phone Skoda customer service on Monday and check. The rolling diameter is as good as the same, but usually its the other way round with the spare being a smaller steel wheel with a narrower but higher profile tyre. I think the dealer just got one from another car in the show room, probably a vRS

Wife's Fabia TSI 85 the same; standard 16" alloys with 15" steel spare. She also has a set on 15" steels for winter with 195/55 winter tyres. Going by the GPS there's no noticeable speedo difference between the two sizes.

Bit of a thread hijack this but rather than start a new one....

The spare tyre on the MKII vRS is 15" but same rolling radius as the one's currently on the car. Why does it have a maximum 50mph sign on the tyre then? It's not a space saver and has a proper rim etc so why the speed limit cap? Is this simply because of the size difference?

Just got the spare wheel and tyre for mine..Its an Elegance with 16`` wheels, but the spare is 15``..I queried it with the dealer and was told there is only one spare wheel and tyre that can be ordered for all the Fabias...No other option is available in the system....I`m also reliably informed that 50mph is a bit on the low side but they put the speed sticker on to err on the side of caution..... :o....anyone know anything different??

I suspect the limit on the spare is a law suit thing.

Also you realy don't want to be pushing on with an unbalanced(I mean diffrent grip and responce to the other 3) tyre on the car.

I was told that, eventhough the spare has a steel wheel, it is a lighter weight wheel - thus the limit.

The difference in radius for these two sizes is less than 5mm

My 1.2 TSI DSG has 15 inch wheels and the spare steel wheel is 15 inch with tyre exactly the same as the other 4 tyres, speed rating H equals 130 mph.
