Octy VRS Petrol Vs Diesel

Featured Replies

My heading clearly states what I, as a new vrs owner, would like to talk about to people with more experience, so if it doesn't appeal to you then don't delve into it and read any further, quite simple really!

Well said mate and welcome to the Forum. It's a fine place to while away the time between driving your car, cleaning your car, eating, sleeping, going to the toilet, and working. In fact I use it quite a lot at work!

I have to say that generally most of the posters are not quite as unhinged as this but the whole Petrol v Derv debate has got the locals stirred up!

Think we should get a DSG vs manual thread up going as well, haven't seen one for a while. To be fair all members are entitled to start a thread and some people are new so let them ask. Us briskodians are helpful and answer people's questions and until this stops let's carry on.

totally!

Manual gearboxes are for knuckle-draggers. DSG all the way.

Diesel DSG FTW :giggle:

Is there any truth in the recent article in Auto Express, that you only need to do about 2,5k more in a CR VRs than a Petrol one to make any difference in costs? :wonder:

Also when's the best time to consider ordering a VRs, what's the current waiting time for them?

Ta.

It would depend on your average brim-to-brim economy with both the TSI and the CR really, in order to make an accurate assessment on costs.

Possibly very true. But as said depends on your economy driving. If you do a lot of town driving you will be lucky to see 45MPG in the CR but on a motorway i average at least 50MPG on a 20 mile run and my record is 63MPG (i have a photo somewhere of it!). With the Diesel (in particular the VRS) you will see the extra cost back when you sell it and it will be easier to sell. Also road tax is nearly half the price and i would imagine the insurance is cheaper.

I am not sure on the waiting lists but it has been up to 8 months recently (usually delays on diesel or DSG).

Drive them both and see what you think! Its the only way.

Well it would be a DSG version anyway, as I've got damaged medial ligament damage in my left leg & the DSG in my Elegance and it's been a boon.

The thing is that with only 10k miles in the 2 years that I've had it, I don't think it would be advantageous to have the CR because of it & the lack of fast roads around here...

Well I suppose I can have a quick trip through the Hindhead Tunnel & back during a break, to do the DPF. :giggle:

At 5k a year you would be silly not to have the petrol ;)

The road tax on the CR is only £100 odd?

Think its 125 on the manual and its 155 on the dsg.

Direct.gov will tell you but I'm on my phone at the min.

I'm a new forum member and on my second diesel VRS estate. Doing 20k miles per year and paying company car tax, it simply made more sense to run the diesel rather than the petrol. And as others have said, it's quite quick enough for most of the driving I do these days (mostly motorways, sadly). It can still bring a smile to my face and give me that lovely satisfying feeling on the occasions when I have the opportunity to drive it sideways. I have enjoyed reading (most of) this thread; it has bene most informative. I also have a classic BMW (an E28 M5) and that is interesting in a totally different way.

Is your tracking out :smirk:
