I need help desperately

Featured Replies

The engine management light has been on in my car (Octavia vRS) for a while, i had it checked out and there was a short to earth problem. It was rectified and i was told to take it back in a month to have the di-ag ran again to see if any more faults had occured. Low and behold the light came back on not long after. However, now the car is vibrating when i drive it there is no power and the engine management light has started flashing. Needless to say i have stopped driving it. I am aware that there could be many cause, but does any one have any rough ideas what it might be?

Should i drive it to the local Skoda Dealer or have it picked up?

Any help would be appreciated.

Could be quite a few things (some fairly minor to fix, some not). Personally, I'd get it recovered to a dealer - if you're still within the 3 years Skoda AA Assist thing, it shouldn't be a problem at all...

Rob.

The most likely cause is that one or more coil packs have failed. Use the Skoda-provided AA breakdown cover and it should be fixed at the roadside.

Coil pack?

Coil pack?
You read my mind. :)

sorry if i infringed your civil liberties.... i was nto trying to get the thread locked.

:o

MAF - have you got a flashing traction control light as well? Get it relayed to a dealer by the AA.

No, traction control light is off. Does sound like it is missing at low revs though

Hello Buddy,

As the previous guys have said sounds like a coil pack to me.

Seems to be a pretty common thing on the occys

Hope it gets well soon.

Flashing ecl is normally an indication of a misfiring engine ,with a steady light as an indication of some other fault... therefore I'll be with the group that says "coilpack"

Yup - like the others have said, it sounds like a coil pack. Is there any hint of a "rotten egg" smell from the exhaust? That would (I think) clinch it.

I notice from your profile that you're in Weston-Super-Mare; I'm just the other side of the Bristol Channel in Newport. If we can work out the logistics of getting it from A to B (difficult for me this weekend) I have a spare in the boot which you are welcome to borrow, to get you back on the road.

I had the exact same thing. Flashing engine light, no power, and the smell of rotten eggs. Its a coil pack.

Although, I think the rotten eggs may be the wiffy old gimmer we used to live next door to!

But but but what's a coil pack?????

SR

But but but what's a coil pack?????

It's used to deliver a spark to the cylinder, IIRC.

As an aside, they're not used on the 1.6... :)
