Featured Replies

Finally had my order confirmed for my new Superb Elegance 170DSG in Black Magic, company car

Just been told i can expect delivery the first week in December but i shan't hold my breath.

I picked a few options on the list, :giggle:

10 Loud Speakers

Electric Tail Gate

Heated Windscreen

Hill Hold & Tyre Pressure monitoring

Keyless Entry and Start System

Pan Roof

Park assist Front and Rear and maxi dot

Tow Bar Prep

Sunset Glass

Variable Boot Floor

Ventilated Front Seats

Modifications planned, Navman Tracker pre deliver, some subtle sign writing probably in reflective red vinyl, change the DRL's to LED & fit some red & yellow warning strobe covertly in the rear window/light clusters & some white & yellow to the front.

I wish my job came with a company car :(

Not the best way to run a car IMO. Got hid of mine a year ago so have seen my Tax code go back to positive territory. Better, IMO, to receive a monthly sum and manage it yourself. Yes you pay PAYE on the monthly payment but you can claim the work miles as tax relief at 45/25 ppm and probably break even on the taxing ie you get wacked for Benefit in Kind for the fuel you use but can offset this against the tax relief as above.

And you get wacked for having a diesel an extra 3% last a looked just a shame you cannot use the actual purchase price instead of the RRP with the reductions of the petrols!

This will be a "pool car" so i have no worries regarding any taxation.

And the reason for the inverted commas around the words pool car are what exactly? Either it's a pooled car or it isn't.

Chapter 15 HMRC leaflet 480 refers. http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/guidance/480.pdf

15.1 In this chapter references to cars include vans. A car is not considered to be available for private use

if it is a pooled car. So no assessable benefit arises from its use.

A car only qualifies as a pool car if all the following conditions are satisfied:

(a) it is available to, and actually used by, more than one employee

(b ) it is made available, in the case of each of those employees, by reason of their employment

( c) it is not ordinarily used by one of them to the exclusion of the others

(d) any private use by an employee is merely incidental to their business use of it, and

(e) it is not normally kept overnight on or near the residence of any of the employees unless it

is kept on premises occupied by the provider of the car.

Employers need to be able to demonstrate that the conditions for the car or van to be a pool

vehicle have been met, for instance by keeping mileage records to show when the car was

used, by whom and for what journeys.

Nice cheary response as usual

Oh dear I appear to have got myself a stalker, one who posts one liner comments which add nothing constructive to any thread.

Pushes ignore button.

But surely you can only claim tax relief on the business mileage on journeys which are not to/from your normal base location - therefore only away days? That way always the case with my company cars.

In my situation, running a company car is the most cost effective method - based on the tax that I pay which is in the region of £1.5k pa I could not:

  • Purchase a £22k Skoda Superb
  • Fully insurance said car
  • Fully fuel said car as and when required (even for any private usage)
  • Fully maintain said car whenever required
  • Tax said car every year

Of course I do appreciate that in some circumstances and for some people receiving a monthly allowance is better - in fact one of my managers does exactly that and she reaps the rewards.

On another note, I agree with Stalmunk over the OP's declaration and classification of the car as a "pool" car.

So are you accountant or The Tax Man?

(A) It will be available for use by, my self, Mum & Dad (never work for you parents lol) and one of the senior managers.

(B) Well i work 12-16 hours days and the remainder of the time on call

© We have a fleet of two Bipper vans, a Fabia & a Defender 110 is there is always something for all depending on the circumstances

(D) Im on call 24 hours a day

(E) One business is a Farm/Equestrian Livery Yard & the other is a Security Company bot of which are run from a office at "the bottom of the garden"

(F) All our vehicles have Navman trackers fitted

Next question?

Personally i fell the tax man takes more than his fair share of my hard earned and there are a few ways in which we can get small victories.

Completely agree with the above, and it's not for me to judge if your arrangements and record keeping will meet what the revenue expects.

I know what we have to do and it has to be spot on, and looking at the vehicle specification, if the revenue doesn't agree for some reason then the Company could be liable for a big tax bill.

Considering that if we even provide biscuits for internal meetings we have to pay BIK the revenue can be staggeringly petty and vindictive.

It struck me that on a thread which started out where you talked about your new company car and then in a later response talked about a "pool car" with all the obvious connotations of the " " possible that the devil in the detail of running a genuine pool car shouldn't be taken lightly.

I'm sure you will have it all above board.

Good luck, good spec and it will be a cracking vehicle. As mentioned elsewhere whilst I could spec up to a 170 DSG as a cc just cannot stomach the tax aspect based on the CO2 fallacy, but that's an entirely different discussion.

I changed the order to a 140 DSG 4x4 several weeks ago and I'm now told I won't get delivery anytime before Christmas.

The only up side is I've just brought a Discovery 4 3.0 TD, wow what a car and what a engine. Only draw back is I wish I could justify a HSE with a few options. Though it is a work truck and I must remember that, though no muddy boots or filthy overalls like the Defender.

On the up side, anyone want to buy a Defender?

That's a bold decision. I'd guess not before new year...

I'm waiting mine since w40 (original building date) and now expect it to be built next week (w50).

However if they decide to fail once more I'll go for a 508GT Touring or XC70 instead.

Well its eventually arrived in the country and at the dealer, decided to wait until the 1st of March for the sake of two weeks and be a tart with a new registration.
