Hybrid Owners - What clutches are you running?

Featured Replies

Mardigras reckon the Helix is only up to 350lb/ft which realistically doesn't give me a lot to play with for future upgrades over the next few years. I think I'm going to stick with the Sachs, and the slightly heavier Jabba SMF for SMF reliability without so much of the chatter. Seems like the best fit now with a bit of leeway for the future.

Hmm, how come Mardi Gras only rate it to 350lb/ft but everyone else 390lb/ft?

How much are you looking at for the setup you mention mate?

No idea, but I sent them an email yesterday asking the question and that's what came back. As for prices, I'm looking at either:

£942.99 inc VAT for the full Helix setup with Helix SMF and release bearing from Mardi Gras

£990.00 inc VAT for the full Sachs setup with Jabba SMF and release bearing from Jabba

£662.06 inc VAT for just Sachs friction plate, Jabba SMF and bolt kit from Jabba

Plus any shipping and fitting costs, which would obviously depend who's doing the work for you.

No probs bud al delete all my pm's

Not got my laptop at the minute

If anyones wondering if a helix can cope i had one with stage 3 power, massive hybrid vnt25 on custom mani, chucking out near 300bhp and it never missed a beat

jase whats in mine at min??gavin, where in derby notts are ya?? ya can hav a listen to mine if ya like. pm me. im from derby too

I'm from Sandiacre way. It's tempting, would prefer to hear one on a TDI but yours might be a good option as well. I might be in Derby tomorrow night for the monthly Derby Dubs get-together so might drop you a PM tomorrow or something about it, cheers!

Janno1 has my old car bud!

Its a hybrid vrs with helix and smf!

Ahhh, his profile still says Octavia, I didn't realise he had your old Fabia! I'll drop him a PM then, I wonder if his is one of the other yellow ones I keep seeing around my way...

He's just got it

Big mouth with black roof

The clutch in it is 12 months old with less than 10k on it

Let me know if you want a vid of the Jabba SMF in mine.

I picked the car up today and noticed on the way back just how much quieter it is than the ones on youtube that rattle like a bag of spanners. I can see why they make a heavier one.

Yeah, would be useful if you could get one under "normal" conditions (i.e. not in a nice echo-y multistorey carpark!) with the clutch in and out to hear the difference. I haven't ordered anything as yet, but it's looking like the Jabba flywheel for me for the extra weight to keep the noise down, and then probably get the friction plate and accessories from them as well for convenience. Want to get it all ordered soon though, I dunno whether the dyno runs have really accelerated the death or whether I'm just getting paranoid about it now I know it's broken, but it does seem to be getting worse :)

OK, I'll do one tomorrow for you.

Cool, thanks!

I did it today sitting in traffic and you could hardly hear the difference over the van next to me and my engine.

Trying later on the drive where it's quieter...

Sorry for the delay.

Ask Ross and Luke how quiet it is though, they were with me at Santa Pod today.

No worries, I think I've pretty much made my mind up from your words, you're obviously satisfied with it and Jabba agreed that they've moved all their flywheels to that weight (the 6.25kg I mentioned from their website turned out to be out of date info that they just haven't changed). All their flywheels are 8.5kg now so the benefits must be apparent as presumably it costs more in raw materials but their clutch kits are the same price (i.e. slightly less profit). Just nice to hear it for myself if possible :)

Here you go.

It's not that noticable, just a rattle that is not really much louder than the engine. So it's a different noise when the clutch pedal is released rather than some of the terrible things I've heard on YouTube.

That sounds pretty good. From inside, you can barely even tell at all, I was listening to that "blind" (had the audio with no video) and I had to watch it twice to make sure I was guessing the point correctly where you lifted your foot. As you have, I've heard some bloody awful setups on YouTube and not been able to tell whether they were really that bad or just bad videos (such as about 20 seconds into

which I think is a bit of both!).

Helix smf sounds similar

I think we have to remember the 2 vids cant exactly be compared

Ones inside the car and ones outside in a multistorey car park...

When i fart in a multistory it sounds like an ak47 going off lol

Yeah, it was an example to make the point that a lot of the time you can't tell how much of the noise is the SMF itself and how much is the recorder being a bit of an idiot. Which is why I was asking BossFox to make a decent, fresh one, he's clearly brighter than most on YouTube :)

gavin sorry mate not replied lol. im from spondon so prob about 10 mins from ya lol. thats me old car in the sig need to change it to the yellow fab. the chatter inside the cars fine, just sounds like an old diesel and tbh i sit with me foot on clutch at lights anyway in first just in case some **** can't brake behind me i can move forward :) was meant to go to the dub meet but car was up on stand as repaired cv joint ha. if ya do wanna hear it give me a shout. theres 2 like mine round here now :( mine plus one more which is annoyin but hopefully mine will be different soon plus mines got 220bhp to make the difference :)

I didn't go down to Derby Dubs in the end anyway tbh. Sounded like I missed a pretty big get-together though. Spondon's about 10 minutes down the A52 so I might give you a shout one day and nip over. Or if you fancied it you could get your name down for Shark's rolling road day on Sunday ;) I'm going to head up there to spectate and talk clutches with Ben :)

wheres shark based?? might pop up fella depending on work lol. yeah we're only down road from each other, im gonna try get to next meet wenever there is one, cppl of me mates go and one of ems got me old octy haha.
