Hybrid Owners - What clutches are you running?

Featured Replies

Shark are up in Mansfield. About a mile off J29. I dunno what meets there is in Derby really, there's Derby Dubs once a month or so if you fancy something scene, and there's one at a pub up near J28, think I'm going to pop along there next week and grab a drink with some new faces.

i'll deffo be at next derby dubs meet hopefully car will be fine then haha. ahh think shark built the engine on mine so would be interesting to go there soon as see how much turbo rebuild would be. done about 70k so big jase has informed me. just want it for peice of mind lol. also might get a cheeky tune to get more hp outa it haha. what colours your fab? seen a few black ones around derby.

All work was at star performance (kircaldy scotland)

Turbo's is prob a bit tired but was run low at 195bhp for most of its miles....

With my last custom oscarli map it ran 200bhp.... There is more available shark can get you more bhp if you desire but i was happy with a safe 200bhp! Enough to muller mapped vrs's and most hot hatches while retaining reliability

Mine's another yellow one. It's quite ironic that I was looking at mine in Warrington and Jase's old one in Aberdeen (I think?) at the same time. And now within 6 months both cars have ended up 10 minutes away from each other. Yours had better not be loads better than mine else I'll be gutted! ;)

star thats it haha. well the oil feed pipe needs a new gasket or o ring whatever they hav as theres a slight leak. how much are rebuilds?? haha yeah 14 hour journey to go get it but deffo worth it. whats yours atanding at min?? mines just got all engine mods and tt brakes. need to get some coilies then change bits etc to make it my own. want it lookin good by this time next year which i think will happen lol. tempted to keep standard wheels but also fancy some comp mos or somethin like that on it haha.

We don't talk about my car at the moment, it seems to have quite a rep on Briskoda (I found an old thread on it earlier today with some interesting opinions). At the moment it's doing 200bhp and 330lb/ft engine-wise with a custom Shark remap, but the DMF is knackered from the old map. That's why I'm off up to Shark on Sunday, I need to talk over clutches with Ben and see what my options are. I like the look of my Pro Race 1.2s, but I'm not really a wheel man...

Another thumbs up for ben! Met him once nice chap and always heard good reviews!

Yeah said that to me mate!black on yellow wud look good!haha is it u say one thing and everyone says somethin else?deffo want me turbo doin then can get a bit more outa it lol

Yeah, I met him for the first time a couple of months back (he's not talked about on SeatCupra.net where I'm originally "from" so I didn't really know him till I bought the Fabia and a mate of mine started using him for mapping) and he seems a top guy. Easy to have a laugh with, knows what he's talking about, and seems to care more about being honest and having a happy customer than he does about making a sale. So thumbs up from me :)

Just a quick question - my cousin is a mechanic and I was talking to him about SMF's and he said that Ford did one that snapped crankshafts - no reports of this for this clutch is there?

Nah i ran 3 over a total of 100k and no issues

Which Ford?

We've converted several work vehicles to SMF for reliability after issues with DMFs and never seen any problems?

He mentioned transits? I've never heard of it either if I'm honest I just wanted to check because Im going to order the clutch soon as mine is dying :(

Sorry a little off topic could anyone shed any light on the symptoms of the DMF wearing or failing please? Thanks in advance.

From what I gather it gives off quite a rattle - the other day in stationary traffic I put it in neutral and took my foot off the clutch and heard a rattle, pressed the clutch and it went away. Did this a few times so think this is flywheel?

yeah thats flywheel on its way out

Rattling, vibrations through the pedals, and on mine you can feel the power sort of coming and going, which I think is probably because the two plates that make up the DMF have got too much movement in so rather than turning reasonably in sync, they're turning separately and the power feels like it's fluctuating.

I saw a video on YouTube the other day explaining how a DMF works and how it can fail, I'll see if I can find it.

I love black 1.2's on yours, but they need to be an inch bigger...........!

Need a bloody good clean too, they're not very black at the moment...

So this is still ongoing. I found the invoices from when the clutch was changed and it's actually done just over 50k miles which is about twice what I thought it had so I think I'm going to change the whole lot and will just get the old cover and friction plate back, if they look in good condition they can go on eBay and I'll see what I get for them. Just want peace of mind that I'm going to be doing this once and it'll last a few years.

I've discounted Helix as they only seem to be rated for 350ftlb (which is enough for now, but it does 335 or something already so I'd rather have some leeway to handle any further mods over the next few years and also to provide long-life). So I was pretty much set on the Jabba/Sachs but someone recommended I have a word with Darkside Developments. I dropped them an email and it turns out that they're shortly to become UK SouthBend distributors. For about £60 less I can get a 400ftlb rated SouthBend Stage 2 Daily with 9kg SMF, or for the same price as the Jabba kit I can get a 450ftlb Stage 2 Endurance.

So I can either stick with what people know (Sachs) or try something new (SouthBend). Does anyone on Briskoda know anything about SouthBend clutches? I've read loads on Google and as far as clutches go they do seem to know their stuff, although most of their stuff is built for American trucks (including competitions like tractor pulls and stuff like that). Like I said on the Techniclutch thread, I'm up for trying new things but it's a pretty big purchase (bigger than buying a Techniclutch for a few hundred quid) so I'm not sure whether it's worth the risk or not...

I thought the Helix were rated up to about 410lb/ft?

Jase said he's run his higher in the past, but when I asked MardiGras they said 350. So it might be OK higher but I'm not risking it, this has to be a one-off purchase for me, if I **** another clutch then I'm going to be absolutely livid. :)

Lol fair enough mate, I think it'll be enough for me if Im honest :)

It might be enough for me too, but I still plan to keep the car another few years yet so who knows what I might do in that time. I'd rather spend £50 extra now and know I'll pretty much never have to change it again even if I mod further, than buy something that might not do the job in 3 years time and it cost another £1k+ for another full new clutch, if you see what I mean :)

Yeah totally understand mate, out of curiousity how much is that clutch from Darkside you're on about? Just I think aclutch will be getting bought soon
