Shell Fuelsave

Some newer engines work better on higher octane/cetane ratings, so for that reason my vRS runs on V-Power Unleaded, has done from new and will do until I sell it!

Ahhh, but did you take into account the prevailing winds yesterday?

Looking at the met office charts you had a head wind going to Bath, and a tail wind returning to Herts.

I'm now half way through my first ever tank of Shell Vpower and it's showing the lowest mpg the maxidot has recorded for about 6 months(41mpg).No noticeable change in performance either ,so its back to Shell fuel save for me.

(The winds have been light and variable, though the outside air temperatures have been colder this last week.):giggle:

Coming into bath is downhill and going out up hill (certainly from the centre as bath has steep hills on all sides.

When I drive out, I always get better mpg coming back into bath than going out, due to the nice downhills.

6 of one half a dozen of the other really, as there are so many factors.

Nobody is saying higher octane petrol won't help a petrol engine designed and tuned to use it.

I think the point everyone who is "knocking" v-power is making is for a diesel just use what is cheapest rather than going on hype.

I think this discussion is rather like the winter tyres discussion - while there may be a difference, many (most) of us have used the same tyres all year round without ever feeling in the least disadvantaged. Of course, that's not to say there are no benefits to alternative petrol/tyre choice.

Anyway, probably going off-subject now...

Totally agree - few years ago I was travelling from Midlands to Fort William ,thence to Inverness .Car felt better /seemed to perform better on trip with Asda Diesel ( 5p less than locally). And fill up was Sainsbury - so figure .Personally think that on older cars this talk is a lot of crap .

As for winter tyres - perhaps driving to the conitions might be a cheaper option - served me well for 45 years .
