Faster and more economical than Fabia VRS?

Featured Replies

Are there any cars faster and more economical than Fabis VRS? I'm thinking it would have to be very light petrols maybe... I mean a bike is. But are there any other diesels faster and more economical? Any other reasonable sized cars?

a chipped fabia.... a bit lower on the mpg

I doubt you'd find many bikes that manage more than 50mpg and better accelleration than the furby.

You can get more economical cars for sure, but not with the same agility and size/spec. The Furby is not the lightest car in the world, esp. specced up (like mine) with toys.

For the money it's definitely worth considering though :)

ibiza tdi fr.

But its not really any quicker (at least by any significant margin), or any more economical, and it certainly isnt cheaper...

and its dog ugly!

a remapped + well suspended 1.4tdi fabia... would lap quicker than a vRS purely on handling and power to weight.... and

As opposed to the unbridled beauty of an L&K Octavia no doubt...

Is the ibiza tdi fr just a three door?

I prefer 5 in all honestly. Some people think that detracts from a car looking sporty" ooh 3 doors,it must fly ".Don't think so :D .Far more useful and practical with 5 doors

Found the ibiza bit cramped too.Prefer a nice Leon ;)

Ibi Fr comes with 5 or 3 doors.

In Holland it is cheaper than a Furby RS. But there are only like 20 Furby RS

So is the answer no? There aren't any cars available that are both faster and more economical than a Fabia VRS? Surely that's quite a clame to fame... why isn't it specifically mentioned in reviews... by Skoda themselves?

I think thats only ten of us with suggestions ( or not!)though.

Think vauxhall do a diesel version of the VX220 which might, just, wipe the floor with the fabia ;)

(not a production car though.Think they are just showing what can be done with the smelly expensive stuff :D )

Depends what you mean by faster and more economical.

Is that fast as in point-to-point urban driving, point-to-point non-urban driving, 0-60, 0-100, 30-50, top speed, etc.?

And is economy purely based on fuel consumption, ignoring running costs?

And is that economy based on the book values, or real-world values, urban or extra-urban, or combined, empty of laden down with six large suitcases, etc?

I know of an Octy vRS which could manage 60mpg on a motorway cruise, yet still be capable of destroying most things on track...

Rob.

Daihatsu do some silly turbo things with really small engines, YRV 130 or something. Probably slower and undoubtedly crapper and worse economy.

Just wanted to take the pi*s out of them really!

Hmm...lighter cars (and definitely less nose-heavy), Japanese reliability, and quite a bit cheaper to buy. Wouldn't be surprised if they were actually nicer drives and worked out cheaper to run unless you were doing serious miles...

Rob.

I actually drove one, and an Ignis sport (Suzuki) - bloody abysmal! The YRV isn't actually that quick, and is auto only??? and the Ignis needs the nuts spanking off it to get any speed up.

A proper 'hot hatch' has to have a good size engine and lots of torque.

I thought it was lorries which had to have good sized-engines and lots of torque? Hot hatches just had to be exciting to drive...

But then why not go for a 1.9 TDI Fabia? That also weighs in at 1120 kgs and can be remapped to at least 130hp...

I did ;)

Chris

Please elaborate' date=' Paul... :D

And seriously, what kind of power and torque would be attainable? I'm thinking 100hp and 245Nm here.

And what difference would the 100kgs less weight make on the car's understeering character? But then why not go for a 1.9 TDI Fabia? That also weighs in at 1120 kgs and can be remapped to at least 130hp...

but 1.4tdi is cheaper.... and more efficient...

Hot hatches just had to be exciting to drive...

And thats subjective. And I do find it exciting to drive, just perhaps not in the more traditional sense.

The Fabia vRS is great. Its enjoyable at normal speeds, unlike a lot of hot hatches I've driven where you are at license losing speeds at the end of 3rd gear. Not really a lot of use for the road - at least not for someone who values their license.

Mind you, I'm not surprised you would prefer a YRV, you do after all drive a SMART ;)

And thats subjective.

Undoubtedly. Hence we keep having these same old arguments over and over again... :D

Rob.

but 1.4tdi is cheaper

Ah, I see. But that's probably UK pricing. Here, there's only an 800 euro gap to the 1.9 :D - which in turn is a whopping 5k euro cheaper than the vRS (and 2k cheaper than the equivalent Ibiza too), while the vRS is 2k more expensive than the Ibiza FR sister car. Do you still get it?

Anyway, I now see why it would make sense here to get an 1.9 TDI, remap it to vRS values, get the sports interior and 16" rims, slap on the best sports suspension this side of 1k euros, put on some better brakes and still be 3k euros to the good compared to the vRS.

The only things missing would be ESP (as if I need that), some speakers and the opportunity to hike the power up to and above 160 hp.

The upsides are stealth, and a ludicrously low company-car income tax addition...

The Furby is definitely a good proposition at the moment at a reasonable price point, nippy, pretty economical with a fair bit of tuning potential :D
