Featured Replies

Got my SGS2 today and its spot on. Just hope it doesn't take too long for android 2.3.4 to get pushed out to it.

Another vote for the S2 here, just had mine a week, but I'm amazed by it, an awesome piece of kit.

Don't forget if you are with BT for internet, install the BTFON app for free WIFI when out and about from any of the Openzones or BTFON points, always find it very useful B)

10 million sold in it's 5 months since launch, Samsung are doing something right :-)

I must admit that I'm really happy with the phone so far! I just need a car charger and mount for using it as a sat nav too. Slightly annoying that I can't use the bluetooth on my radio with it and the sat nav at the same time (because it audio outputs on a different part of the radio), but I guess I'll figure that one out soon enough.

so far very very happy though!

Previosuly ran a Galaxy S with custom ROM which met its end in a mop bucket :'(

Got my SGS2 and straight away was impressed on how much quicker the phone ran, Im now running another Custom ROM based on 2.3.5 phone is so quick now

Got an SGS2 now, dumped the HTC Desire on a mate who wanted it for one of his kids.

The SGS2 makes a mockery of HTC's phones, these have 16Gb of memory built in, mine now has a total of 48Gb on board with the addition of a Cl.10x32Gb card inserted.

The only annoying things about it are:

1/ Stock browser: If you try and access the BBC website you'll get the mobile version as you will with NRE, the solution and you MUST do this each time to use the full website is enter this command into the URL bar: about:useragent

Then select Desktop, then all websites will use the full "Non Mobile" site, Briskoda will NOT work properly on this browser, this is one instance where you're restricted to the mobile option, because for some reason you can look at a thread but not put an answer into one! :wonder:

2/ Battery life: Bit poor, so I suggest that you immediately upgrade your battery to the new official one, it comes with a new backplate & the new battery is 2000mah vice the 1650mah OEM one, it's about £25-30 but worth it as it will provide about an extra 6hrs of use.

not heard about this new battery, can you point me in the direction of it mate? i could do with a spare anyway for Touring car weekends.

I use Firefox and Dolphin HD Browser, Wish Briskoda would become Tapatalk friendly

Yep I sure can: Samsung Extended Battery Kit.

When I put this link in it was Out of stock, however if it is, then just use the Notify me link and they'll let you know when it's back in stock.

I'd highly recommend Mobile fun, I've had quite a bit of stuff from them & their service has always been top notch, with fast delivery.

Warning!

If you put this battery & backplate on & you have a Case Mate Tough Case fitted to your SGS2, it (case) will NOT fit back on, I know I tried it. :swear:

Ive not bothered with these cases i think they make the phone bulky so thats not a worry, out of stock again ive messaged a guy on XDA Developers whos shipping them from Bulgaria

How much has your battery life gone up? on an avergae day at work (Internet,Facebook,Twitter and MSN)i can get about 12 hours out of mine, a heavy day it lasts about 9 hours

with little use it lasts like 2 days

Well I don't use the phone for calls much however I use the web, texts, music or radio quite a bit and I get it down to about 75% over a 9hr day, whereas with the standard battery it would probably be around 45-55% or even less. So the new battery has made quite a difference.

Although saying that if I have a mains socket around me (I always carry the mains charger) I use that rather than the battery power, so I have maximum battery power when I'm away from the main supply.

i think i use mine to much

I'd be interested to see if other people are experiencing the same problem as Warren?

It's a known problem.

The other way around it is to download Opera Mobile.

Another glitch is in the calculator. Try asking it to add a percentile to a number! For example add VAT (20%) to £100, we all know that it should be £120, but unfortunately it adds .2%! emoticon-0120-doh.gif

So I'd recommend using Real Calc, a full scientific calculator to your apps to compensate for this useless built in one.

100 * 1.2 = 120 on my phone? I don't know how you add the percentile, or the way you were inputting it, but mine seems fine for basic sums. Not found any need for anything other just yet! Used it a few times too. Normally only use it at work for + and - though.

To test it bring the calculator up, rotate the phone, so that all the extra functions appear inc. % & √.

Then enter 100+20% = and you'll see that according to it, it's 100.20! emoticon-0120-doh.gif

Which is clearly wrong, as the correct answer is 120!

My mate just bought one and I wanted to see what all of the hype was about. I'd been trying to convince him to buy an iPhone but he decided on the S2. After a few minutes playing with it i'm convinced he made the wrong choice. Thought it felt like a toy and way too light for my taste, but he seemed happy enough. Maybe I was biased due to the fact I have just about every Apple product you can by now even tho I have only been a convert for less than 12 months. I for one will never turn back to windows or any other phone unless Apple drastically fudge up their products.

You based that on the fact that the SGS2 is lighter than the iPhone? So using that basically my Leon is better than a F1 car because mine is heavier :giggle:

Did he stay a friend? After trying to talk him into buying inferior hardware with a wee diddy 3.5" screen. :-)

Maybe he's got short thumbs

Damn, I never thought of that :-)

Love it, they dont seem quite to scale either :)

I must say I dont have any issues with reaching the screen corners on my S2, but it certainly could be an issue for people :)

Pretty sure I said it was too light for my tastes and not the only reason I did not like it. :mmm: For that money I just thought it would be a bit more special. The screen size was fantastic but the feel of it is way below that of an iPhone. Horses for courses I guess. Its strange so many people think the iPhone is inferior to pretty much every other smartphone out there. Its even weirder that millions upon millions of people buy them

I've had every generation of iPhone and inbetween all of them I have had other phones as well, I just haven't found anything that I prefer over an Apple product (phone wise that is before some smartarse comments) :D

Its even weirder that millions upon millions of people buy them

This.

The same phenomenon will occur on October 16th. It's called 'brand loyalty' and 'not doing your homework'

Its strange so many people think the iPhone is inferior to pretty much every other smartphone out there.

This really confuses me. As the only things I can glean from all the iPhone rants is that it's:

a ) Too Expensive

b ) Locked down and not extensible

c ) Got a small(er) screen

d ) Popular

I'm still trying to figure out why these make it a bad phone?
