Samsung Galaxy S2 - Any good?

Featured Replies

I've found out recently that I can upgrade my phone for a Samsung Galaxy S2 on a cheaper contract. I have a Sony Ericsson Vivaz at the minute, which I don't dislike, or like, but it just doesn't seem like anything that special anymore!

So, what are your experiences with the Samsung? Is it any good? Good things and bad things about it? Any alternatives out there which I should consider? (I hate apple products and software, so iphone is a no go)

Thanks for any help in advance :)

I've had mine since they were launched in May and I can't fault it. Great screen, no performance issues, does everything I want it to. Battery life is longer than previous phone (iPhone 3G) although I still charge it every night as I'd rather not run out of juice partway through the next day.

I should have waited for this phone instead of getting the LG Optimus 2X. Best phone on the market right now. Beats the iPhone 4 into a cocked hat

Apple last night announced a "Lets talk phones" press conference for next week... could be the iPhone 5 launch...

Al.

ps. I use a BlackBerry Torch, it's bullet proof, has great battery life and emails etc, but if it's not for business, it'll be so DULL!

At present the best phone around, make sure you check out the very latest version of Android that should be on the phone & make sure it has it ( some places have these sitting around & dont have latest ver).

Like all Tech a newer better one is around the corner emoticon-0106-crying.gif

Also watching this thread as I'm contemplating moving to the S2 from my Desire.

The original Galaxy failed with a few things such as bad GPS and Kies being a bit lot of a problem. The screen is fantastic though.

Exellent ,swopped mine for my desire which was brilliant ,this is much better, screens stunning , lots of storage which was always a problem on my desire, just moves the goalposts for me.

It's a brilliant phone, the best I have ever had after coming from a slightly buggy Atrix.

Camera is great for a point and shoot, and will record 1080p, expandable memory, a simply awesome screen with the super+ AMOLED, dual core cpu keeps it fast, snappy and responsive and there are plenty of options should you wish to ditch the samsung gingerbread install after rooting and run a custom rom.

The only downside is it looks a little plain (suits me though) and the light weight is afforded by the use of some flimsy plastic on the battery cover. It's not as weighty in the hand as a HTC desire or a Jesus phone.

I use mine for lots of different things and watch a lot of blueray rips and it chews through those no problem, and there are lots of connectivity options such as using it as a dlna player, or as a wireless access point, it will sync over the wifi with itunes using the samsung Kies software or even better the doublesync airplay client.

It really is the best phone out there at the moment imho, until this one lands http://www.metro.co.uk/tech/876627-samsung-galaxy-s3-details-leaked-on-internet-messageboard

STOP - DO NOT DO THAT

Never ever go into a phone shop to either buy or upgrade as you'll not get the option of returning it if it's not up to your expectations!

Phone the supplier and ask them to deliver it and then you will be covered by a least a 7 day returns clause.

X2 , i always have my phones sent , distance selling lawsare your friend

What's wrong with the Sensation? Build quality and Motorola customer care are the main reasons I am swayed away from them.

Motorola?

You mean HTC? Personally I favour this over the samsung, but in reality there's very little in it if you read the S2 v Sensation tests. The Samsung normally pips based on the screen and camera, but the pics I've seen you'll struggle to notice much difference.

I'm going Sensation, but going SIM free as to drop to the contract level I want to pay (dont phone, just data really) it's cheaper over 18 months. Plus I'm not tied to a contract so can jump network or phone any time I feel like it.

Well, I got the Samsung Galaxy S2, and so far, I'm really happy with it! I did go to the shop in the end, because I don't like having things delivered to my house, especially such expensive things, because I know it's likely to get left somewhere or something daft like that!

I also have issues with billing addresses and that sort of thing, as bank cards are still registered at my parents address, and they'll only deliver to billing address, which is fair enough!

Thanks for all the help and advice though!

LOL I meant Samsung build quality. I don't know where I got Motorola from.

I have a desire HD and I'll be going for a Sensation next.

TThe S2 is on special everywhere at the mo.

Wonder if its anything to do with Apples court applications to get it banned?

Nothing major, build quality wise, it's just some little things like the battery cover are a wee bit flimsy. As I mentioned earlier though, it is a fantastic phone. and the screen is muchos awesomeous :-)

I recently upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S2 after 15 years with with Nokia's.

IMO its an excellent phone, amazed by the screen quality and the speed at which it does anything (has a 1.2ghz dual core processor)

I needed a phone that could connect to my factory Bluetooth kit in my VRS using the RSAP connectivity. The S2 is one of the few phones other than Nokias that has this function.

I've also used it as the home wireless router (tethering) after our home broadband went down for a few days.

Yes the battery cover looks a bit flimsy but I have mine in a gel case.

Most reviews/test have the Galaxy S2 at the top with the HTC Sensaton running it a very close second.

Up until last night, Quidco were giving an extra £150 for any new Three contract - the best of which was a (free) SGS2 for £27 with ample voice/data/texts!

As I didn't remember in time, I'm having to start looking around again to see who else is doing a mega deal - or I could maybe wait until Tuesday to see how much cream is on the Apple Pie!

Good phone but beware its the size of a breeze block.

Can't make the phone smaller than it's screen size :-)

And it makes up for it easily by being so thin and light. Having the bigger screen means it's much more useable. I find myself digging the laptop out less and less in hotel rooms because I can do mail etc comfortably with the S2 and the Swype keyboard, and it's watchable for video content, propping it up on the side of the bed and a bit of Top Gear when slumming it in a travelodge :-)

Theres a new one coming out with an even bigger screen. :o

Got mine coming this week so I really hope it is worth it

Cant comment on the S2, but having had the original Galaxy S for over a year now, I have to say it is the biggest pile of crap phone I have ever owned and hate the day I ever chose it.

Its garbage. The wifes cheap little Wildfire is awesome.

I got rid of my galaxy s after just a couple of months, so I'm hoping this is much better or I'll be gutted
