Ordering a vRS Estate

Featured Replies

Hi all,

After a year of will I wont I the time has come to order my vRS Estate over the next few days. I recently replaced my Octy vRS with a Honda CR-V and for the first time in 7 years there isn't a vRS in my driveway at night, and really miss the vRS buzz so its time to act.

Have already been in touch with my local dealer who tells me that unfortunately there is a 4 - 5 month lead time on a new vRS Estate. Have thought long and hard about the colour, the main reason its took me this long to order one and am 90% sure its gonna be red with black alloys (however Race Blue with black alloys is hovering at the back of my brain). I just have a couple of questions, ones a general Furby vRS question and one is for vRS Estate owners and would appreciate any advice.

Firstly, I noticed the new vRS's of late have the darkened lenses of the Monte Carlo, is this an option or standard? And lastly, money is a bit tight so I'm trying to keep my options list as low as possible. Ive been a good few years now with rear parking sensors on my cars so have become lazy and reliant on them, has anyone bought an Estate without this option, and if so how is the rear visiblity when it comes to reverse parking etc.

Thanks guys. :)

I've got the pauper spec vRS estate (in red  ) with no parking sensors, but parking isn't an issue for me as I park in the most open of spaces, paranoid about curbing the alloys. I can park in my garage with no problem about rear view vision...Can't help with the black lens, as mine came with them already specced by the dealer, I think they are standard, bell Skoda

GET IT BOUGHT!! ;)

Black pack now standard on VRS the rear parking sensors on the estate would be the first thing i would specc as previous GET IT ORDERED!! ;)

There are, or were, a few VRS estates out there in dealer stock if your not worried about options. I had a car that I wasn't sure would cope with 3 months of jaunting around the UK, and coupled with it needing an MOT, Service and getting poor MPG the Fabia was bought 2nd hand instead of new.

I managed to get the one in my sig as a 2 month old car. By the sounds of things the buyer bought it, wife wasnt happy, she didnt like DSG, car went back to Skoda.

I dont have parking sensors, but if I was you I'd try to get Climate (even just for the looks on the dash). Cruise can be retrofitted.

My car doesn't have the darkened lights or grill. I'd be really tempted to swap them out if I'm ever feeling hillariously flush for a proper 'stealth' look, but I'm quite happy as it is to be honest.

black pack is standard now... and you don't need parking sensors!!! lol..

As others said black pack is standard on MY 12 cars.

As for sensors, I have the hatch, but estate is obviously bigger and I would get it with sensors if your used to them. Its not worth buying a car without something you want or may need if you regret it later.

Good luck with the search keep us posted.

I had sensors ordered because it's my first new car and I thought why the hell not. BUT - I've been driving for 20 years, including owning several estates, and have never felt the need for any such sensors. If they had never been invented I wouldn't be craving such a thing...

Oh and spec the satnav and you'll get a image on screen when reversing, great bit of tech ;)

Have no climate or parking sensors on my vRS Estate and I dont miss them... having said that, if you are feeling flush go for it :)

Personally, I can park well and forgot to add climate but its no biggy. A/C is easier to use lol

What ever you do dont order the sunglasses holder.. you will never ever use it.. unless you wear a monocle that is!!!

I specced the climateonic control , haven't switched it on since feb so totally with you on that one, looks good but my sixteen year old has to put it on and off I can't switch it off and it's got a mind of it's own, but parking sensors are useful to me as there is 4 cars in the drive so need to get them close together

I ordered the sensors but only because at the time I hadn't seen another on without them. Come in handy for my drive though as l have to parallel park in sometimes and there's a low wall you can see that's in line with the bumper. You also get that diagram with the Swing stereo but it's not colour obviously. Works in the same way too. You can see my options in my sig. Don't bother with the sunglasses holder as mine don't fit and yet to find a pair that do. I had Climate because it looks nice and does work really well. I find I have it on auto without AC most of the time and then screen only when it's raining to demist.

Thanks for all the advice folk. My new CR-V if fully loaded and adds 10 minutes onto each journey, 5 minutes to turn everything on and 5 minutes to turn it all back off again.

Think I'll go back to basics and live without the parking sensors, and the climate control. The one thin I'll definitely get is cruise as I use it all the time on the motorway. And the main reason I'm going for the vRS anyway is the the thrill of the drive and the legendary 'vRS' experience so I think that will make up for the toys I'm missing out on.

Thanks again and I'll keep you posted on my progress

That Amundsen unit does look good though :p

Dogs testicles gold ones ;)

MY12 Fabia's don't have Climatic any more, the temperature control is now just a hot or cold dial. So if I was speccing new I would go for Parking Sensors and the full Climate Control.

And cruise is a must for me too.

Cheers

So no A/C as standard ? On MY 2012 vehicles :(

No climatic - you either get standard twiddle dial no temptreture control looks like it's from the 70s manual A/C or you can spend a little bit if money and get the much nicer (and very simple to use unless you are a complete retard) digital climate control

I use the sunglasses holder all the time... :D I mainly wear them in car so now I always keep them there and never forget to take them with me in an awfully sunny day, (well maybe not the usual case in UK) and there is lots of them so a very useful addition for me.

Parking sensors? Neither hot nor cold about them. Never had them before so I had developped a lot my psychic parking abilities... They even scare me when they start constantly beeping although I know there is still some space I could use, definitely could live without them.

Climate control? Yes! Sorry but to me, everybody claiming the old A/C is simpler sounds like "I didnt pay it so I must not like it". I didnt get the nav system but I would be silly to deny its more convenient than the SWING, just because I dont have it. There is nothing simpler than setting a desired temperature once, and then letting it do its thing. It works harder in the beginning to achieve the temperature quicker, and when it does it just calms down to the point where it just keeps it there without freezing your a@@. I can accept though that this may be more usefull in countries with warmer climates, and maybe not the UK, but for so many years I have been "fighting" with the A/C knobs in long travels, too hot, turn it up, now its good, now I'm freezing to death, turn it down, now I'm sweating again, turn it up, that this system just saves me bothering about it.

I hate having to keep twiddling the hot/cold dial to maintain temperature, but pre MY12 Fabia's came with Climatic that was a semi automatic sytem with automatic temperature control but manual fan and direction control.

I would be quite happy to have semi automatic Climatic, it's an easy system and has been fitted to the Fabia since the Mk1 was introduced. For some reason Skoda have removed it from MY12 models which would force me into buying full climate control.

Cheers

Great for reading glasses, use it all the time myself.

Reading glasses in the sunglasses holder, shouldn't they be driving glasses with tints? I keep my sunglasses in there fits fine, driving & reading at the same time not recommended ;)

I think I probably should have got climate for looks, parking sensors for the misses, and cruise would be handy but hey ho :giggle:
