  • It's been a looong time since I've updated this. But in fairness I haven't really done anything with the car. Done a few motorway miles this summer, and the front was looking a little chipped. So ha

I finally have sound again!

HE4 is all installed now

It sounds so much better than the Groun Zero one, and I get no interference! The additional sound proofing on the face of the carrier has definitely made a big difference.

The interior is all back in now, so I'll give it a clean soon and post some pictures with the new gloss black bits. Although I'm stil waiting for my dash cup holder from Skoda (been two and half months now) so I'm still to have the headunit surround sprayed.

All done!

I decided not to ad vents, as they'd be useless once the mat is on top. Instead I've used some well placed blocks to elevate the lid (over wood around all sides) meaning air can flow freely. There's also a slight gap around the edge (as you can see in pics) so this, plus a cold blast of air from the air con when I'm pumping music will be more than adequate im sure to keep heat down.

The carpet is a perfect match, it's dark grey from car audio direct if anyone's looking for some.

Next stop, sub box!

looks great mate! How you getting on with the armrest?

Looking forward to seeing all the pics of the interior parts :-)

Thanks guys.

I'll get pics of the interior up soon as I can. Im also in the middle of trying to source some we dash bits to replace mine as there's a few scratches in not happy with.

The arm rest is great! Although I'm gunna elbe replacing it soon. I bought a replica which seemed to do the job just great, but the back of it has just fallen apart, so I'm looking to get a genuine one.

Also got some VW interior light fixings to be mounted in the rear cabin and wired to the interior lights.

Roughly how much weight have you added to the car with all the sound deadening?

Just cought up with this thread,

That's one very nice looking VRS, love the leather seats.

  • Author

Thanks mate.

Just checked CCD site, and the sound deadening weighs 12kgs! I'll lose more than that when I remove the backbox though to compensate.

Few updates.

My dash was looking a little butchered from the previous owner:

Got a new one off a scraping vRS, much better:

Also got a new centre console, mainly for the cigarettes lighter, but will come in handy with my new arm rest also:

Also got some VW interior lights for the rear of the cabin, will LED these and wire them up to centre festoon bdc13d15.jpg

Bought some standard rear calipers. I've got these so I can paint them at the same time when I purchase some 312mms, to keep it all consistent. Saves hassle with removing mine as I need my car daily

4 new tyres also. Toyo T1-Rs in 195s. 205s are ugly and you save over £25 a corner!

And to top all that spending plus annual car insurance, my car is now misfiring and has been in the garage for two days with no clear sign of what's wrong, bad times!

What's the speed and load rating on the 195/45/16 Toyo's?

Cheers

Dave

How'd you mean misfiring? Under load? If so I'd get a new fuel filter as they can collapse and cause a stutter under load.

  • Author

Its a constant misfire.

Not much of an engine judder, just a constant horrific engine clatter. Lost 70% power, and smokes like a chimney.

Faulty injector rail harness?

After being off the road for 5 weeks, I finally have my car back!!

It hopped in and out of a couple of garages, and went to the body shop to fix a ding.

The massive problems I was encountering turned out to be camshaft failure.

Check out my lobes and tappets...

It was diagnosed and repaired at Euro-Performance in Pontyclun, couldn't have asked for better service! Top guys who carried out a fantastic job, really know their stuff and went out of their way to ensure it was done in time for my holiday.

It's had a new camshaft, tappets, timing belt, oil and filter, engine flush, diesel treatment and shell bearings.

The car sounds and feels better than ever. Didn't realise just how noisy it was (coming from a 3 cylinder Diesel it sounded quiet!).

I can get back to it now! Was almost getting used to driving a car with no character, speed and that I didn't give a hoot about..

The guys from Euro-Performance also mentioned that they think my car's been mapped judging from past experience with other PD130s. I'm hoping not, as I was looking forward to the extra power! Will have to keep my eyes out for local rolling road days and see for sure.

Pics ain't working? Sounds an expensive fix, glad you have it back to 100%.

Pics fixed.

Thanks mate, yeh it's set me back a bit!! The cars costing me a fortune at the minute.

At least it's working again :-) That's the main thing

Tim, every car you own you hit the nail on the head with the subtle mods. Loving this!

Robbie.

The interior is stunning!

Love this :)

Thanks guys! Robbie - you knew my previous cars?

Yeh the cost is forgotten about now, and it's running smoother than ever so I'm happy.

Tim, car looks incredible, I've just read all of this thread, and it was like a top notch novel, enjoyed every update :giggle:

One thing though, your bulb upgrades, I can't find the links to them anywhere, don't suppose you can see them or remember what you got do you?

Edit: Never mind, found the, link for anyone who is also looking! http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/215603-tims-vrs-the-detail-starts/page__view__findpost__p__2541464
