You can modify your standard EGR and remove the EGR function but keep the anti shudder. Obv it will look no different from on top/

  • It's been a looong time since I've updated this. But in fairness I haven't really done anything with the car. Done a few motorway miles this summer, and the front was looking a little chipped. So ha

Yeh I've heard about adding a gasket in the form of a cut piece of metal halfway down the pipe that just blocks the pipe to the EGR?

Couldn't you just remove the internals of the EGR so that it looks stock from the outside, which still retaining the ASV?

Also that is one filthy air filter!!

Yeah a use something to blank between the turbo manifold and the pipe leading to the egr then just remove the flap from inside the EGR valve and hey presto you got a "egr delete" but retaining the anti shudder. I think there was a decent guide on ukmkvi owners IIRC

Yeh I was thinking of making something the same as the blanking plate on the link you provided Karl. I don't understand what the additional pipe is provided there for though (the part pictured by itself in pic 3(.

I wouldn't know what parts to remove from the EGR internals. If you stumble across that guide Adam I'd appreciate a link up!!

Sorry to be unclear Tim,

Its a complete kit, the pipe in pic 3 is to replace your EGR valve so no need to modify you existing EGR. Not OEM but it will be covered by your engine cover anyway, but as I said expensive !!

I'd have no problem with that kit if it wasn't for the price.

An I correct in saying it offers no advantage over making your own blanking plate and disabling the EGR as per Adam's mentioned?

Not really,

You would ideally need to remove internals of the EGR valve, one of the members on here even went to the extent of blocking the side outlet to achieve a smooth air flow through it. How much of a benefit that would be I could not say, it does however have a boost pipe outlet but possibly not worth the £75 that they are asking, but to be fair unlike the Allard kit it is actually milled out of a single billet of aluminium for strength hence the high price.

use a coke can m8 i did mine at weekend ill post pics up 2moro ;-).. just cut ends off your egr pipe.. cut gaskets out of coke can.. bolt gaskets to turbo manifold + bottom of egr valve using original bolts + the ends of egr pipe uv cut off.. remove egr vacuum pipe but leave anti-shudder pipe connected + hey presto a 50p oem look egr delete (other cheaper cans are available :-P)

Still need de flap the egr dude.

That's what I was thinking Matt but I'm unsure of how it all works exactly, so don't know if more work is required as Adam suggests.

Basically do as matt said but need remove gubbings from inside egr to turn it into a "power pipe"

Ah I see.

So block the pipe off at both ends from EGR to inlet manifold, and remove internal butterfly valve?

And what's the deal with removing the light on an ASZ engine? I know BLTs need them mapped out, same scenerio or does can it be done via vagcom?

my engine light hasnt come on m8.. iv got the asz engine

dont think the flap is a massive restriction so not worth the faf of taking it out imo..

Things have been very slow on the car front. Wedding season is now over though, so I get a bit of a life back meaning I may have time to spend on the car! ( new camera and new flat says otherwise though  )

I'm now sporting a nice new arm rest. My non genuine Golf 4 one was creaky, so I was looking for a replacement genuine one. But I never quite liked the process of self tapping the arm rest into the existing plastic of the centre console. So I looked elsewhere

The fabia mark ii ones are similiar, and with a bit of modding you can bolt them onto the car.

First I have to attach my golf 4 top. The golf and fabia ones are different enough that they dont clip right in, I had to shave the golf 4 lugs off and get some heavy duty adhesive to attach it.

Fits a charm though

Next was fitting it to the car. It's not easy but does work. In order to bolt it to the car, get a snug fit in existing centre console, and keeping the plastic trims looking clean cut and OEM, you have to elevate the armrest. If you dont do this, you can't get access to the bolt to attach the rest without compromising the look of the plastic trim and/or centre console.

I used two pre-drilled wooden blocks to do this. I chose these over metal as it gave me margin for error with the location of the pilot holes in the car in respect to the mouting holes on the arm rest mount.

I used M8 coach screws to attach it. It's now solid as a brick, I now reckon I could drop kick my arm rest and it wouldn't budge. The golf 4 one never felt as solid.

Took ages to get my head around, and looks pretty much exactly the same as my Golf 4 one, but so much better. the higher position improves driving stance now also. I can set the arm rest pointing down and it offers a nice resting place for my are whilst retaining the ability to change gears.

This is what all the fuss was about, I now have finger tip access to my iPod, rather than it being half a foot away in the glovebox; god I'm lazy.

I also (thought I) finished my sub box. I'm fairly sure I started this back in January? :wonder:

I had a moment of triumph as I put the last layer of carpet on, like a huge weight had lifted from my head.... it was finished.

Went to fit the next day and tweak audio levels, and it now doesnt fit... Great. Seems with the added thickness of the carpet it's too much of a snug fit and the rear seat wont close. Looks like I'm going to have to rip all the carpet off, cut 5mm off the size, and re-fibreglass the end on. PITA!

Looks nice though

Pics fitted when I've cleaned and finished the engine bay.

Also just picked up an OEM SACHs clutch kit, mine has been slipping since the remap and gradually getting worse. Will keep an eye on the DMF also..

I've also solved my low MPG issues.

Turns out a combination of a very heavy right foot and an old MAF.

After having the new one in, and driving more sensibly I'm reaching 50MPGs no sweat on the motorway (62MPG on long runs!)

As usual Tm looking good

Especially like the effort that you put into the armrest

Keep up the good work

Karl

TimFok if you dont mind me asking, where did you get your storage box from under the parcel shelf?

I would love one of these on my car! Looks very useful :)

  • Author

Thanks Karl.

I bought it from a uk-polos member a couple of years back mate, originally fitted my old car.

I have no idea where it came from sorry! I don't know if it's a genuine item or not. I'm guessing no as it's fairly lightweight

I've just read this through, one of the nicest Fabia's i've seen, love how it looks OEM yet its done with so much care.

Thanks mate, that's the objective!
