iOS 5 (Apple Update)

Featured Replies

So the question is... Who's excited about this new iOS 5 software update, I'm running the iPhone 4 and the update looks amazing :)

I know it's out tomorrow but does anybody know what time the download will be available from?

I would also like to take this opportunity to laugh at all Blackberry users :p (sorry had to be done)

:)

Nope, the update is officially called iOS 5 by apple.

Link to apple's official page about it...

Am I right in saying Siri is only available on the 4s?

Been running 5 for a while and its not really anything to get excited about. :)

Been running 5 for a while and its not really anything to get excited about. :)

My friend gave me some info on how to get the update early but i thought I'd wait til the release date incase that software was dodgy :S

In my experience (over 20 years of using Apple kit) it is best to wait at least a month after a new software (or hardware) release before contemplating and update. That way you give everyone else a chance to find all the bugs and you give all the other software companies time to update their apps to work correctly with the new OS.

Every so often Apple release a step change OS, the move from Snow Leopard to Lion is a case in point and iOS 5 from iOS 4 is the same with the expectation that things that used to run locally become more reliant on web based services (e.g. iCloud).

Being an early adopter is fine if you are have a development and a live environment to run in but I would err on the side of caution if I only had one device.

Managed to log in to the icloud before. Cant do anything yet as I dont have IOS5.

Does any one know what time today? Just plugged into iTunes and my software is up to date :(

I for 1 am NOT getting excited about an Apple product.

It is however highly suspicious that with all the court cases that Apple have trying to stop the competition, that Blackberry instant messaging happens to stop working on the day that Apple release their own emoticon-0104-surprised.gif

It's usually around 6pm UK time for iOS updates.

Anybody been running the beta versions of iOS5 on a 3GS??? Seen a couple of things on the net about it running fine but just wanted to confirm. Hopefully it'll not cripple the 3GS like iOS4 did with the 3G.

Also hopefully won't be too long till it's JB'd as the "gold final" has already been done!!!!!

If it does run ok on the 3GS then that might be the deciding factor on me keeping my 3GS till it's roughly 3rd birthday next October and then jump straight to the iPhone 5 instead of the 4S.

Cheers

Dave.

I guess you also think that 9/11 was orchestrated by the CIA?

And it was Microsoft that brought down the Sony PS3 online service.

hmmmm Looks like you may need to be on 4.3.5 to upgrade.... I'm still on 4.3.3 (JB'd) and all iTunes still tells me is that there is a "newer version (4.3.5) is available".

***EDIT***

Forget that about 5 minutes after connecting my phone the display has just changed itself to show an update is available but it has changed the 4.3.5 to 5.0

Cheers
