Performance filter?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I was thinking about buying a performance

air filter but have a few questions I need answered before I splash out. Do they actually increase power like the manufacturers claim? Had an K&N induction kit fitted to my 1999 Primera GT previously, made it sound better but no noticeable increase in power. Which is best K&N or Green cotton. Do I need a PD 160 pipe to get the best from the mod, my Fabia VRS is already remapped to 170 ish. Cheers.

My VRS has a K+N panel filter and PD 160 intake. If you look at the air intake at the slam panel there's a deflector flap comes down that covers half the intake. Take off your pd160 pipe and 2 screws holds the deflector onto the panel, I used a die grinder to remove the plastic flap and it opens the intke for more flow.

Did It make a difference performance website with the K&N and PD160 pipe?

I mean performance wise?

Stick to OEM paper filter if you value your turbo.

and why do you say this as i was looking to get an itg filter

Look for SimonK24's thread (think it's called "Another one bites the dust"). To let more air through than standard, any performance filter has to perform LESS filtering. I never thought it was a problem until I saw the state of Simon's turbo, and I went out that day to buy a standard paper filter instead.

The paper one gives enough airflow it seems, and does a much better job of filtering than the K&N one Simon had. If you still want one though, I'll sell you mine ;)

Of water if you drive through an unexpected deep puddle? :wonder:

Also seems to let in alot of rain water, rather play it safe so I brought a new one.

if you want to have an induction kit go apexi. as it is the best one for an increase in hp and and a clean air (little or no dirt)due to a double filter mesh. The only downside is that it would have to be improted from USA or Japan. You will also need to measure the MAF inlet size they do a 70mm, 75mm and an 80mm. the Skyline owners swear by these filters and my experiance has shown this Review to be very true. Heres a Shop that will import them to the uk hope this helps

The problem is a skyline with ether engine varient will get very diffrent gains compared to a 1.9TDI. I do fully agree with you tho, Apexi do some superb filter solutions. But from experince all cars do seem to run diffrent with the same set up on. Plus both R32-R33-R34 Are pure animals anyway

still would be worth a try tho as ive seen lots of posts where people have had K&N filters or pipercross and have had problems with damaged tubby blades or completely blowing them, so there would be nothing lost trying an apexi as you said they are supurb filters. I agree that the performance increase with the 1.9TDI is an unknown as I havent seen any one running one but still worth a try especialy if the tubby lives longer. I plan on trying an apexi when i get (can afford :( ) a vRS Furby next year. In my eyes the more options the better.:D

I changed mine whilst on a Rolling road a few years ago.

Dirty OEM Filter: 142.1 BHP

Brand New K&N Panel: 143.3 BHP.

So it gained 1.2 BHP (less than 1%)! However I was told it would slightly increase when the ECU adapts over time, but I wouldn't imagine by much. I don't notice any difference in performance at all.

How much do you think it would have gained with a fresh OEM filter?

About the same I'll wager.

Bingo !! :)

I have an ITG panel filter in, good job!

I was going to purchase a k&n cone filter, are they that bad for running.

Well is it worth spending £100 (or whatever) on something that gives no benefits?

Eg. Golf r32 uses a paper filter, BMW m3 uses paper filter....

Fabia vrs diesel will survive better on paper filter.
