FAB Vrs v OCT vRS

Featured Replies

I completely believe the above however it does seem odd that a car that can go round corners at manic speeds, straight line speed must be excellent, never mind in gear acceleration can't beat an SDI, bloody good driving!

Well, as we've already veered wildly off topic  Jon's SDI is neither a fabia or an Octy RS

I'll vouch for the unusually grippy SDI. Last year, bumbling around Brunters, he tried desperately hard to spin it round to pick up a fair he just spotted in the rear view mirror. Seemed to stick to the road a bit too well, and considering how well the taxi cornered, Jon considered the quicker route would be go round the track one more time.

Gave the fare a fair chance to admire the driving too and me laughing myself to bits in the passenger seat :D

Hellfire, strangely enough, my corner speeds (cut slicks on a wet track) were higher than anything else that was there (including the instructor in the C4S). At Anglesey in the dry, I was 1mph slower through School than a race Caterham on full slicks  OK, mine may not have the sheer straightline speed of the others but the corner speeds just about make up for it, as I'm exiting the corner with a 15-20 mph advantage over most things. Oh and there is the matter of my torque figure, which is slightly above average (just under 370lb/ft), my rev range which is from 2000 - 5250 and testicles the size of Swiss balls :D

Xavier, I'd forgotten that. I'm now laughing out loud, just remembering the look on your face :D

Ummm...The Noble M12 GTO 3R 0-150 is 28.2secs, so taking into account your 0-60 in 6 seconds & 60-170 in 15 seconds that means you can do 170 in 21 seconds???

Yeah, i think thats a bit far fetched too, quite comical tho

Well with a power to weight ratio on a par with a Tuscan, the Octy seemed to go pretty well ;)

was it the mortified look......

or the "fook me this is cool" look?

It varied according to the angle of the car :D

Honestly what engine is under the bonnet, you say 367 lb/ft of torque, no SDi is capable of that without a lot of NOS :D

Also, not wanting to create an arguement but there are laws of physics here and I find it extremely hard to believe (not impossible) that ffelan's Octavia vRS even if it were running 250+ bhp could keep up with a Noble M12 or a TVR Tuscan, we are talking about 4.0 0-60, and in the tuscan's case anyway 200+ mph. In corners anything can happen as driver ability plays the largest factor but in a straight line run....

The ClioSporters & Scoobynet will be dieing with laughter if they read this, we sound like were corsa drivers who manage to overtake F15 fighters in a straight line sprint :D

No NOS in Jon's car.....he runs regularly with Scooby's on track days....where's that Scooby site news letter gone? I also believe he is well known in Scoobynet.....

...people tend to forget that Paul's car was also a bit lighter than most Octy RS' and when run in combination with the mods he had done it was very brisk.

What mods to an SDi? thought they only had 64 bhp? isnt that nearly the same as my Fionc

oops

600bhp Supra's dont even stand a chance

Jon's SDI is the quickest thing I've been in (round a corner) just does not loose grip. Was a shame the idea of the day was to get the backend out

did you know they have taken the word gullible out of the 2006 dictionary?

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

@ TaviaRS

If I could ask, being genuinely curious about this, what is it you did modification wise to the car to make it handle so well?

kw v3, thicker anti roll bars. kumho tyres.

mine was kw v2... but the 1.8t is much lighter thus doesnt need the military spec roll bars....

KW v3... is that a type of anti-roll bar???

So let me get this straight - he has standard suspension, but just better ARB's and tyres?

no KW are a brand of suspension kit.. the comma was missing..

The Kumhos are cut slicks....no oversteering at the handling day although you woul dhave come close to frying an egg on them.....couldn't see Paul's through the smoke. ;):D

The car was on KW Varient 3 suspension, on about 1/2 stiffness at Anglesey, 1/3 stiffness at Bruntingthorpe (I wanted to kill the tyres as I hated them). Castle Combe was also on about 1/2 stiffness

The ARBs are uprated slightly, 3 times stiffer at the front and 4 times stiffer at the rear

The tyres are road legal cut/moulded slicks, grip so much better than standard ones, worth about 10-20mph in a corner over normal road tyres.

Enginewise, lets just say it has a little bit more than it should have ;)

what like a tuned 1.8Turbo? ;)

Nope still a diesel :D
