First sign of Winter

Featured Replies

We all talk about the 1st signs of Spring - snowdrops, daffodils or whatever

The 1st sign of summer - the first cuckoo or the swallows

I have a candidate for Winter! Driving in and out of mist along the Wharfe valley near Pool-in-Wharfedale at around 11:00pm on Saturday and I got a "bong".

What the...!

Low fuel? No

Low screen wash? No.

The temperature had dropped to 4 deg C!

So now we have it - the first bong of Winter!

Time to get out the Winter tyres, beef up the screenwash, wellies and shovel in the boot, woolie hat, scarf, gloves and warm coat in the boot...

I had to scrape ice of the screen leaving work at 0530 the other morning, and the temp senor went "boing" this morning on the way to work.

We had a pretty bad ground frost on Saturday morning.

Pretty cold here too. It must be old age but takes me longer every year to get used to the cold

Lowest we've had is 7oC and that was this morning. The bong will happen soon I fear :(

Same here Graham, I was out a bit early than you (04:30)

Don't forget most of the Briskodian's wont realise there are two 5:30's :giggle:

For me the first sign of winter.....

Going to work when It's dark, coming home from work when It's dark. :(

Had the dreaded "bong" a couple of weeks ago. Down to 3C again this morning and winter tyres going on next week.

On Wednesday, I had my first Bong, as I was driving to work. It started at 5°C then dropped to 4 in a dip, then came up again. Strangely today it was 1.5°C and it didn't go bong.

Anyway Winter is here, on Tuesday we turned on the Central Heating for the Winter months.

Had a couple a low temp bongs, some foggy mornings and a couple of hailstorms. Thankfully haven't had to scrape any ice off the car yet. Looks like I'm going to have to dig out the winter tyres early this year emoticon-0101-sadsmile.gif

Had a few bongs this week. A shock to the system after spending last week in Gran Canaria in a heat wave. 35C+.

-2c here on Thursday (20th) and panel beaters rubbing their hands as I came across the first car in a ditch. Obviously it was the councils fault for not gritting the road and nothing to do with driving to fast when teh road was white with frost and it was obviously not gritted. :dull:

Same here. Sometimes I'm at work from 8:20am and leave at 9:30pm at night, when it's dark both ends you know it's winter.

Just think of London Underground Drivers, Go to work in the Dark, Drive in the Dark, Go home in the Dark

They must have eyes like Owl's..:giggle:

Had a massive bong last night and swear to god I was at Woodstock ...... Oh hang on wrong bong thread :giggle:

So did I, but Swmbo had one of her headaches.......AGAIN :giggle: oooopps, wrong thread

Yep Ive had it too! Lowest do far has been 3c (in Cumbria) the central heating was turned on for winter 2 weeks ago.

Normally I enjoy winter but I have to say, I'm not looking forward to it this year as I have a new job and i now drive 26miles each way on roads that aren't that good so we'll see what happens!

I had a 4 degrees bong over the weekend, but it's back up to around 12-14 degrees now.

Clear evidence that winter is here spotted this morning.

I met our postie, Richard, and he was wearing LONG TROUSERS already.

Based on this evidence, it's going to be a long cold winter
