Considering the price of the disc - I paid €380 in the Netherlands - is there any software that will allow updating the maps? I'm assuming they're also in the same format as TomTom.

You just stick the map disk in the DVD slot and follow the instructions. No pc required.

I know. The question is, considering the price, is the map info available separately from the entire program?

Ok, silly question time. I've ploughed through this topic and others on updating maps, and not being particularly technically minded, I'm confused!

If I buy V8 maps from my Skoda dealer, and install them in the Columbus of my early 2010 car, does everything just update or do I need to upgrade the firmware too? I'm only really looking to update what's already there (ie the maps) and hopefully get more digits on the postcode search.

My dealer didn't know!

Also, the update disk they showed me had VW RNS510 v8 MFD3 printed on the front, but didn't mention Skoda. Is that correct, or do I end up with a Columbus with VW graphics?!!!

The VW and Skoda disc are the same, so it does not matter which is used. You'll still have your Skoda graphics and dealer info even from the VW disc.

Although the V8 disc will work with any firmware version, to get the best out of it the firmware may need to be updated depending on which version your columbus has already.

Thanks Manny

As pressing SETUP for 5-6 secs takes me into what appears to be a radio signal quality menu, rather than something that indicates my firmware version, do i need to find someone with VCDS to ascertain what I've got?

Try longer than 6 seconds, if nothing changes past that then you need someone with VCDS.

Have tried that, and it stays on the Radio Signal Quality menu. Ah well, looks like it's hunt the VCDS expert then!

Thanks again.

Hi

Just taken delivery of new Yeti ( build week 1) with Columbus satnav.

However only has 5 character postcode input !! Dealer contacted Skoda UK who are investigating !

I asked about the DVD - not supplied anymore since week 22 (2011) .

Do I understand that there is no way for me to check firmware version or map version myself ?

Anyone know what map version is being supplied on SKODA 2012 build cars ?

The dealer has installed an old map. Should be version 7.1 (or is it 7.2) which is the current Skoda released one. (no way to tell though which one we have installed, other than being able to input 7 digit postcodes....)

Ask the dealer to check what map THEY installed. Is is unlikely that there is a problem from the factory, just the dealer not installing the correct map.

As supplied the car has no maps installed onto the columbus, the maps are installed by the supplying dealer at PDI so it sounds like they have used an out of date DVD disk.

Dealer informed me that the car now comes preloaded with maps from the factory.

This seemed to be confirmed by the dealers conversation ( I heard one side) with SKODA UK.

Am I correct in believing that version 7.2 is latest and not version 8 for Skodas ?

Have tried that, and it stays on the Radio Signal Quality menu. Ah well, looks like it's hunt the VCDS expert then!

I'm not far away if you want me to have a look with VCDS. Drop me a PM if you like.

Still waiting to resolve 5 digit Postcode on new Yeti.

Dealer says diagnostics show hardware H52 and software 2844 and oart number of unit is latest but no info on map version!!

SKODA technical have come back and said "check that country isnt set to Europe" which it isnt .

Surprised cant find out map version from unit. I know it doesnt show the Hindhead Tunnel but this maybe a bit to recent even for 7.2 maps ??

That's pretty old firmware, mine is 3984 iirc, Why not just flash the firmware yourself, it only take 10 - 15 minutes.

Dont I need the DVD to flash the firmware ? ( DVDs not supplied anymore)

Not to flash the firmware, you need to burn the firmware to a cd and flash it. You may need a map DVD to reinstall the maps if the drive gets repartitioned.

Its a while back since I last did one but iirc your drive will get repartitioned going from 27xx to 3984. Anyone near you with a map DVD? Or how far is the dealer?

Most dealers are clueless when it comes to maps and firmware.

Dealer ( or probably Skoda) have accepted that the unit fitted is an old model and have arranged fitting of a new unit.

Beside the postcode issue, i dont have any option to read POIs from SD cards.

Will see how things go.

Replacing the head unit ....... bizarre solution to something that just requires a firmware upgrade LOL.

The unit itself is H52 which I believe makes it 2010 issue , so I am keen to get a brand new unit rather than the old unit they have fitted at the factory.

Just been into the dealers to get "new" Columbus unit fitted - map version is now 7690 which I believe is version 8, firmware 3984 hardware H61.

Didnt realise v8 maps were available from Skoda yet !

Hi All

For any users in the Ireland, My dealer has just upgraded my maps for free (as part of 1st service).

I am told it is V8 but I have no way of checking.

It does however show the latest road changes (in my area at any rate).
