oil flush

Featured Replies

Is it wise to use an oil flush when doing an oil change, cars due an oil change soon and wonderd what every one else does to get old oil out of the engine. Thanks in advance.

just use a vw507 oil - it should keep internals clean enough if car has been looked after in the past

I would`nt bother with a flush, I would look at changing the oil pick-up pipe if it has`nt been done already however oil pick-up guide

In a word no.

Engine flushes can actually cause more issues than they help. A modern car with regular oil changes should not need a flush or additive. The oils recommended for the VW/Skoda have various additives in them that already cater for cleaning sludge and engine contaminants.

Use a good recommend oil and oil filter and that will be fine.

Avoid engine flush can cause more harm in the long run.

Yep. All of the above.

Flushes and additives are generally bad news.

If you want to get your oil extra clean just do a regular oil change then, a fortnight later, do another one!

This was accidentally done on my Honda Prelude after a service by National Tyres left it dripping from the filler plug but hey, they totally saved tuppence on a new washer! They'd also used regular Castrol instead of the Magnatec I paid for, so I calmly complained and they gave me £50 for a second oil / filter change with the proper fluid by a decent garage.

Previously the oil was never really black even at it's 6k change interval but after this double-change it was noticeably cleaner throughout the life of the oil, staying golden brown even when it was past time to drop it.

You should change the filter both times of course, that's doing a large part of keeping the fluid clean!

If anyone does this please keep a small sample of the oil from your initial oil change and another from the second change. Then take a final sample once that becomes due to be dropped and compare all 3, then take some pics and upload them. That way we can all see what difference it's really making.
