Piper stainless steel exhaust giveaway draw

What factors do you take in to consideration when modifying your car?

In this order I suppose -

~ OEM+

~ Environmental considerations (including mpg, emissions and waste disposal) VS bs talk on the forums VS actual gains

~ Bang for buck (which includes quality, lifetime of product and insurance)

~ Unique from the norm

~ Reversible/sell-ability/value after usage (Don't care what people say, at the end of the day im not keeping a car for life so whatever I've done can be changed back to £££)

~ Practicality

What factors do you take in to consideration when modifying your car?

Will it pass MOT next year? If no then 'Buy it now' :)

Will it cause damage to the car in the long run? If yes I have it by now.

Seriously I consider legality and reliability.

Also if it will damage my car like my suspension has and 5mm spacers did.

I'm also very aware of what others think. I know it's my car but If im not getting 90% thumbs up then it's coming back off.

What factors do you take in to consideration when modifying your car?

1. Improving the weak points in the standard set up ie - vRS = handling.

2. Increasing the performance to match the potential of the engine.

3. Not changing too much to alter the overall look of the original design.

4. How much I can afford to spend.

5. How much more fun it will make the car to drive.

Above all for me it has to put a smile on your face when you drive/look at your car whilst also improving its abilities in some way, wheather its a new exhaust with a shiny tailpipe or a new set of wheels, otherwise whats the point?

What factors do you take in to consideration when modifying your car?

It would depend what you want to achieve from modifying?

Style - changing it enough to notice a difference but not to change it so much it looks stupid and tacky

Performance - enough to notice a difference but not so much you break other stuff

Handling - enough to handle the power you’re giving it

Modifying should not make a car more dangerous but more enjoyable to your self to drive.

What factors do you take in to consideration when modifying your car?

For me modifying is not about looks or noise or being part of a scene. For me being a victim of the so called credit crunch, any work that I do on my car is usually about rectifying a problem that has developed in the best possible way and at the most economical price. Ocasionally I will look at "modifying" something that isn't a problem, this is usually after much investigation and deliberation, weighing up the pros and cons before going ahead. Any modification MUST be an improvement otherwise why do it.... This is the number one reason why a site such as Briskoda is such a great forum, as there are pioneering spirited people matched with like minded sponsers who's main aim is to get the best out of our cars. As a result of this there are modifications that can be bought and there are those that can be just done. When looking at bought mods, Briskoda, the sponsers and the members who buy them, help us to get a better idea of what the Quality, fitment, issues etc are so we are all better informed. For those among us who are always looking to save a few pennies its nice to find some mods that can have a positive impact on our cars without costing much if anything but a bit of time and ingenuity (these threads usually contain the word pikey at least once :D)

I will admit that as my car is a daily drive tool for work it would fit under the term of sleeper (more of a snoozer really compared to some of the cars on here) but what I get from modifying is a sense of accomplishment, knowing that what I have done has made my car better, safer, more reliable, and maybe even just a little bit faster...

The only down side to modifiying, where does it all stop ???????? Des?

Best performance per £ spent (bang per buck) ;)

For me...

The thing I most consider when modifying my car is the grin factor after doing it. Knowing i've improved on the original design, and it's more enjoyable to drive. Looks are nice, but not as important as how it feels afterwards.

What factors do you take in to consideration when modifying your car?

Safety, price, handling, speed, putting a big smile on my face,

and finally:

the surprise on the face of drivers who tailgate and think they are following yet another under powered taxi (well certainly in the Portsmouth area) when I leave them standing emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

What factors do you take in to consideration when modifying your car?

Is it going to shorten the life span of the car.

Is it going to make it cost loads more to insure? Weigh up the pros and cons.

How is it going to effect the drive of the car on a daily basis? Eg while I might enjoy a very loud exhaust, it isn't practical all of the time (butterfly valve needed!).

How is it going to effect my cars performance?

How is it going to effect my cars looks and what sort of stereotype is it going to give off about me?

How will it affect resale? The part either fitted or removed from the car and how much of an inconvience would it be to install / uninstall myself?

Does it solve an existing defect / disappointment?

Will it increase / decrease maintenance?

Can I justify the cost?

I like value for money( Yorkshireman ), but don`t want it to look like an ebay chav special, so oem+ sort of thing, your enthusiasts will notice the subtle but noticable difference

What factors do you take in to consideration when modifying your car?

1. To be as sympathetic and respectful to the cars natural strengths and traits.

2. To attempt to make the car as tasteful as such that it looks like the original manufacture could have produced it.

3. To not have any compromises on quality on the car regardless of the part in question.

4. To make the car a useable daily runner to ensure, drivabillity, comfort, refinment, power and economy.

5. To modify the car for me, as a drivers car, nothing more and nothing less.

The Grin factor! :)

What factors do you take in to consideration when modifying your car?

Can i afford to do it, Will my insurance let me do it lol. then ill do it

And using oem ish effect to make something truely unique. Sometimes i take this too far, but i think im settled with the fabia now, and still love it.

Ok...........I'm slightly going out on a limb here but I've been thinking about this for days so I have to say something & wait to see if I get shot down or told to keep my nose out or something??!!

As I'm sure most of you know, we've recently tragically lost one of our own at the tender age of 21. He had a very tidy Mk1 Fabia, nicely modified by all accounts. As soon as I read this comp thread, I thought that the decent thing to do was to donate the prize or equivalent to his grieving parents to donate to the charity of their choice? If I'm out of order please say so. If not, please add your name to this post to show your support so we can ask Colin & Pipercross to kindly change the outcome of the competition.

Cheers

What a good idea, I was only going to give mine, if I won, to a mate on here, as I have an Octavia

Hows about you organise a wip round for him and do it that way..

This is a competition for Brisk members.

Not being funny but loads of people won't even know who he is, people die everyday part of life.

I am in no way being harsh as it's a sad fact it's just my opinion.

Andy was a very well thought of Brisky member, if you see the Brisky calender, you'll see that it's dedicated to him, some of the proceeds from it & his Brisky memorial sticker are going in the same direction as my op suggested. By 'one of our own' I did actually mean a Brisky member, not one of the random people that die every day. But like I said, it's just a suggestion...........

Whilst we have every sympathy with the family and it is an excellent cause, we feel that it is unfair to amend the prize draw after so many Brisky members have already contributed.

If the chosen winner wishes to auction the exhaust off and give the proceeds to charity, we are happy to go along with this.

Yes i have seen he was well liked on here and it's a very sad state of affairs that he died so young.

I just don't think chipping in on a competition thread for the family is a very well thought out plan, as said earlier not everyone would have known him.

I think a site wip round would raise more money for the family to donate the money to whatever they feel fit.

Only 4 weeks until entry closes!

Keep them coming

Like I said earlier, just a thought, a suggestion to gauge thoughts & opinions rather than a plan. I do like the whip round idea though, but I think maybe it's being covered by the Scottish groups? Also, like you say, not everybody knew him.

performance gainsssss!

What factors do you take in to consideration when modifying your car?

I compare the cost against the performance gain.

Also consider if the modification will void my warranty or insurance

What factors do you take in to consideration when modifying your car?

Bang for buck - cost of mod against power gain.

Innovation, I love doing stuff no-one else has.

The overall image. I had a 1982 Scirocco, and any mods I made were all 80's parts.

Quality. I will not have tat on/in my car!
