Fabia vRS - yes

Fabia vRS 'estate' - not so much

What am I missing?

It's quite popular in terms of sales and is lighter and has better aerodynamics than the hatchback. :)

The vRS part, i dont mind the estate part but a vrs is suppose to be a hot hatch, dont get my wrong i know iv got the octy but it still looks the part, just seems they are going abut mad with it all, like the BMW and the M series, everything is a sodding 'M' now, theres no exclusivity left.

Ah right.

Good point, but if the vRS was supposed to be a hot hatch that conformed the Fabia mkI wouldn't have been a diesel only and the Octavia wouldn't have been available as an estate for some time. Skoda seem to like fun, with a bit of practicallity.

Interestingly, if I was to buy a Fbia mkII vRS it'd be the estate. :D

More practical and as said it's generally better. Hatch has bad weight distribution so it had to be corrected with ballast in the rear.

Funny the Estate is lighter and faster than the hot hatch. :giggle:

Having it in the estate arguably makes it a better Q car too.

Great for surprising people as you blow them away in your Skoda Estate.

Thought the same thing. Doesn't look sporty at all. No doubt a few tweeks here and there and someone will make it look menacing.

Good points and i do understand what you mean (mines the diesel ha!) but i dont think the diesel is the underdog anymore.

If i was to get an estate though i would have to do it right and get the octy, iv never had a proper look at the fabia estate but surly it cant be any bigger then a focus or something?

The Fabia vRS doesn't look sporty, really. It's too high.

If I got one, it would be an estate though :)

And it would run rings around an Octavia vRS TDI - TFSI would take it though!

why why why?!

you dont buy a vrs to be practical, i mean yes mine does fit alot of primark bags in the boot :giggle: but it didt buy it for doing carboots

No it wouldn't,speaking from experience, 0. To 60 too close to call but 60 to 80 onwards, no chance.

Autobahn obviously!

And someone of us are still youthful and insurance to argue with :)

im 22, 25 is a good age for insurance

I'd rate my MK1 Fabia vRS estate over the hatch I had.

Speaking of that. Is that estate on eBay now? Sure I seen it.

As a Skoda fan I'd like to love this car. However, I have eyes in my head and this car really doesn't look good at all. It is too tall, the wheels are lost in the bulky body and the overhangs are way too big.

The hatch just about gets away with it from certain angles, but the estate is way too frumpy.

Not a vRS.

thank god someone has eye on here

I agree with Ema to a point. This is meant to be a sporty estate and it looks incredibly bland, even in comparison to a Monte Carlo (now that looks sporty, but not very grown up to a point). Maybe, it's meant to be a bit of a sleeper. Myself I'd rather have something that stood out a little more or was more exclusive. Mk I VRS for me is the founder and the one I'd like to own most (one of few cars I'm glad it has 4 doors instead of 2).

The whole vRS range is designed to be "sleepers". The bumpers, spoilers, wheels... all very subtle.

The Mk2 Fabia vRS's biggest problem is the terrible wheels and the lofty ride height.

I knocked this up aaagggeesss ago, when the first press shots were released:

the fabia's may be slighty decreet but im sorry there is nothing subtle about the octys, after the mk1's that is.

18" wheels, big spolier, seats ect

regardless of these reasons you buy a vrs you still like the fact that its not a common sight, just like everyone has an s-line audi or 'm' bmw

i think a superb vrs would be a cool idea as i think it could made to look nice, in an audi s8 way but its just going to lose the exclusivity

The Fabia mkII VRS hatch(and estate) are both probably a second quicker to 60mph than a diesel Octavia VRS.

Diesel is still the underdog on performance because they are designed for economy too. You have to modify to get the best out of them in terms of performance.

Yes, I agree the Octavia is a better looking car.

The Fabia mkII is designed to be practical and easy to get in and out of (possibly older target market?) so it does have a reather tall look to it for a small vehicle that makes it very difficult to turn into a sporty car.

In answer to your question it estate form the Fabia mkII is about the same length as a Fucus hatch and 20cm shorter than the estate. But then in terms of market place it's more like a Fiesta, which doesn't come in an estate form.

I have the Fabia mkII Greenline II eco version in the estate and find the combination of a small, narrow body with a decent boot very convenient for pottering about town, parking and not worrying about people running a key down the side. But in terms of a sporty version, I would in all honesty buy something else.

So I kind of get where you are coming from.

Love my Estate and really glad I had it. I bought it because a lot of time I'm having fun but still needed something that was good on the commute plus could carry a kayak which it can. Still have to sort my bars out first though. If I hadn't have had a kayak I was thinking of going down the Lotus route but by all accounts it's a slippery slope. Once you've driven one you don't want much else.

i suppose there is no 'inbetween' car fabia or next size up octavia and theres a fair few feet extra in the octy

i really like the look at the yeti's, everytime im in the showroom (which is pretty often with my dfm :dull: ) i always end up eyeing on up, still wouldt buy in vRS if there was one

That's why Skoda are bringing out a new car, to plug the gap.

that horrible city car thing?

Roomster VRS?
