Ps3 v xbox 360

Featured Replies

I've got one of each.

The xbox gets more gaming use and online is brilliant.

Ps3 is in the living room so used for blue ray, photo slide shows, music the whole lot! I also play gt5.

Never had an issue with either to date and the ps3 is the original one with ps2 game play facility.

Itll be interesting to see how things change with the new dash update.

Im in the beta for it and should hopefully have the new dash by the end of the week.. things like iplayer, 4oD etc etc.. also proper cloud storage so you can use your profile on any eggbox.

Another one with both.

This is my 3rd/4th 360 the build quality is lacking but the gaming is better.

Got a PS3 because I was getting a blueray player and thought why not. I've used it for a couple of games as it's a damn site quieter than the Xbox. try playing a DVD in a 360 you can't hear the damn DVD because of the fan noise. PS3 is silent by comparison which comes in handy as its basicly been reduced to a media player due to the controller being kiddie size. I had one of the origonal play stations as a kid and the controller was a perfect size but as I've grown up I found it becoming more uncomfortable to use. I then bought the origonal Xbox and its controller felt massive at first but once you got used to it. It was great and it got used and abused (including in a student flat where it was run 24/7 for nearly a year) for nearly 8 years and is still going strong.

The 360 controller was another adjustment but now its deffinatly like an old friend it just feels right. Compaired to the PS3 technicaly its worse but its a better gaming experiance.

Really isnt that much difference, swings and roundabouts.

Its as bad an argument as Spectrum vs C64, Amiga vs Atari ST, PC vs Mac. There is no definitive answer. :p

Amiga was FAR superior to the Atari!... emoticon-0103-cool.gif

Just like Nintendo > Sega emoticon-0110-tongueout.gif

Yes there is:

and...

Spectrum > C64

PC > Mac

:)

Nope, there is actually a site that compares games side my side and the Xbox gives the better image quality most of the time!

To be fair, from what i've seen of the first party stuff, the PS3 is technically more powerful. The problem is, the 360 is basically a custom PC, where the PS3 is a completely different piece of hardware, therefore its a LOT easier to get every single ounce of performance out of the 360, because most developers nowadays are pretty familiar with the hardware. The PS3 on the other hand is a very specialised beast, and most developers just don't put the effort in to extract the last x% of performance.

Its the first party stuff that really sets the consoles apart, and from what i've seen, its generally the PS3 that has the better looking first party stuff. Im sure if the 360 had a bluray drive on it, i bet the difference would be negated.

Just look at the Uncharted series for getting the most out of the PS3. Uncharted 3 is the prettiest game I ever seen and spent loads of time looking at it rather than playing. Gameplay is superb and it's definitely my game of the year.

As for which is better it's a pointless argument. Both consoles have their pros and cons but I went with PS3 because it was sticking with what I know plus it was a Bluray player. Installing games isn't a problem as you do it once and most systems have 250GB+ to play with. Watching media over my network works well too. I've never had a problem with a controller and am jealous for 360 owners now Forza 4 has come out. That's the only exclusive game for the 360 I'd want tbh

I've been playing Uncharted 3 and it is beautiful. But to me, it looks similar to Assassin's Creed Brotherhood (a year old) on the Xbox.

I have found it to be... easier... than Uncharted 2 though. The game seems to give you a little push in the right direction if you're about to not make a jump. In U2 you would have fallen and died, but in U3 it seems and looks like there's an invisible hand pushing you in the back.

Are the uncharted series worth playing babs?

As far as I'm concerned - Heavy Rain aside - Uncharted is the only reason to game on the PS3! All the other exclusives I've tried, and didn't like! Resistance, Killzone, Little Big Planet... didn't get along with any of them!

Heavy Rain is... just... I can't describe it. It's an experience; more an interactive movie than a game. But I loved it. It evoked a genuine emotional response. SWMBO doesn't do games, but she was captivated by it, and even shed some tears at the end. If all you like is running and shooting, I'd avoid it, but if you're willing to give new things a try, I'd recommend picking it up!

Yeah seen some of the gameplay looks amazing, I liked little big planet but only when me and a few mates were playing, by my self wasn't so fun, plus I found how to make the character masterbate!

Heavy rain does rule, well worth loosing a week too

+1 I totally agree about the emotional response aspect too.

My other half is the same as yours in the not doing gaming respect

and the same as yours couldn't take her eyes off of Heavy Rain.

She's even started a game of her own.

(18 different endings depending on what you do and how well  )

Have not tried it with the move controllers yet. Keep meaning to

as I have them but I just don't seem to get round to it.

PC.

(Someone had to say it).

Nah they both have their merits. I have both, and PC. PC for gaming takes the biscuit, every time.

For multiplayer experience, you cannot beat Xbox Live. It's worth every penny. Playing with friends makes games so much better I think. But Xbox has very old, inferior hardware now (really time they brought out a new console) and I'm not sure how they managed to keep hold of their user-base when they had all the ridiculous RRoD problems.

PS3 has a Bluray drive which initially swung it for me, but now my PC has a BDDVD drive too. It also has superior hardware in comparion to Xbox but unfortunately Sony shot themselves in the foot with this as developers are not going to tweak a game engine especially for PS3 on non-exclusive titles. E.g. titles that are available on PS3 and Xbox 360 will have largely similar graphics, which is a shame, because the PS3 has much more to give in terms of power. The online on PS3 "works" but that is as far as it goes. Gaming just feels so...lonely on PS3. The Xbox live experience is so much richer and welcoming.

My 2 pennies :)

The problem with the Cell CPU is that it's overly complicated willy-waving from Sony. Even BF3 on the PC (most would say the most intensive game at the moment) is optimised for "only" 4 cores.
