how much did you p[ay for yours if you dont mind me asking?

I don't think most dealers are bothered about cash these days - to them, it just involves a bigger risk to have large quantites of cash in the showroom, and it costs more to send someone to the bank with it.

Besides which, they get good commission on finance deals - so you're best bet would be to go in asking for finance, then you're more likely for them to do you a good deal!

Rob.

I'm guessing the dealer may be a bit wary of accepting over

No part-ex is good - dealer doesn't have to waste his time a) appraising and valuing your car, and B) doesn't go through the hassle of selling your car/sending it to auction.

Walk in, mention no part-ex, cash deal asap.

Watch the inevitable stampede. :rofl::rofl::rofl:

P.S If possible, wear a suit. Makes an amazing difference. I used to dress normally when viewing cars (normal being on the scruffy side of slovenly), then when I wanted a good car on went the works garb. Sorted.

You'd be surprised, there are a lot of finance deals out there which can beat loan deals available from a bank.

Of course, there are quite a few out there which aren't as good, but that's the purpose of negotiation...and the more you borrow, the better the deal, so on

Sadly I must agree - dealers just don't like the smell cold hard cash anymore. Similarly they don't like credit cards. Waving a wad of cash may work if you were going to a non-franchise independent trader or a private seller - but i doubt that

Similarly they don't like credit cards.

This is usually due to the way they are charged for taking the transactions - debit cards are usually "flat rate" (ie. 25p a transaction), whereas credit cards are usually a percentage (this is dependent on turnover/negotiations with bank, but is usually at least 1.5%).

Hence if you pay for a

Switch/Maestro is the new cash! I bought my Superb with my Switch card (oh, and an Octy RS p/ex) - really weird feeling when the dealer says "how are you going to pay" and you get out the same card you use in the supermarket!

Allegedly there's no limit to the amount you can put on to a single switch transaction, although a friend of mine tried to buy a new Mini with his, and the dealer told him the amount was above the 'floor limit', so it obviously depends who you're dealing with.

There doesn't strictly need to be an upper limit on the size of a Switch card transaction...however, a lot of banks often issue these both on the cardholder's account and the merchant's account. The motive behind doing this is security, so it stops someone who's stolen a card being able to empty a bank account using Switch transactions - a bit like having a daily limit on the amount which can be withdrawn from an ATM.

That said, the limits I've seen are usually set to around the

patnmad. That reminds me. my dad bought my mum a new range rover last year.

lol

:D

When I bought mine, I paid by switch. He said "no" to CC (shame, I wanted 1% cashback ;)). Put it through the machine, and then had to call the bank to confirm passwords, etc. Once that was approved, out came the receipt to sign. Never hear a machine take so long printing the amoung line before

He'll probably think your laundring money, max my dealer said he could accept in hard cash was 6K or the drug squad pop out of the boot of an old rapide (apparently)

Just a thought.....but I see Motorpoint car supermarkets (Burnley Derby and Glazgow) have Octy vRS for 12999 - only just over 1k more than wot u r looking at for a Furby. Have you considered it?

I guess they are imports - not sure if that matters much. And not sure whether those places will negotiate much?

Anyone got any thoughts on this?
