Should I change to a Fabia II VRS?

Featured Replies

Obviously! I was doing that from day one as it's occasionally easier to shift from the stick (when the wheel is at a funny angle) than from the paddles.

HAHAHA...your Galic wit, sometimes i mistake it for sheer sarcasm :wonder:

Do you have a vRS? And do you have problems with it? Enlighten us please as I have not read such a negative opinion on the vRS before... Actually one of the first words I'd use to describe the vRS would be "decent" so I seem to be in some confusion here...

He had problems with his therefore they're all ****e.

I'm probably the highest mileage vRS (21,500 now!) and have had no problems whatsoever...

mine doesn't really use oil (250 mil in last 10k)

there is none of this alledged hesitation from the gearbox, (I contributed to the relative thread and did a video to prove, also people with the hesitation, have driven my car, and agree there is none..)

as for the paddles, I use them about 50% of the time, great fun, I agree that they should be column mounted, however, if your hands are not in a position to change up, the gearbox will do it for you! if they are not in a position to change down, its your fault, you should have changed before... hence = no problem. I've haired up and down hartside pass many times (lots of hairpins) and never once found me wanting to find a paddle :) It just takes practice and adaptation to use them correctly. Even old stick in the mud clarkson can get on with them nowadays ;)

Wow...sounds like you got a cracking car build there, but unfortunately there are quite a few people just on Briskoda with the alledged gearbox hesitation, high oil use, creaks and groans etc...

It's not sarcasm, all I say is that this so-called "technique" of using the stick instead of the paddles when you can't reach them is the sensible thing to do, rather than some deeply thought trick. But from what I've read in this forum, people tend to believe that "DSG-Auto" means "automatic driving" rather than automatic shifting which is just what it is.

In fact all complaints regarding DSG's hesitations, low speeds at roundabouts etc. etc. are mostly caused due to the driver's lazyness to take part in the driving process. Maybe the auto-shifting makes you forget when you should interfere but at the end that's just an excuse. The few times that I got into such a situation, they were all caused because I was not interested to shift down earlier, even though I was approaching the corner and I knew it would be uphill, hence I would need the higher torque.

LOL...Let me put this in to perspective. Preveiously I had a Clio172 which required FAR more driver input than my current vRS.

Now the ph1 (mine) had a wire throttle, but the ph2 had a flybywire throttle...guess what, there was a perceived throttle lag, EXACTLY the same as the one i experience in my vRS (and I have driven both Clios). This mixed with an semi-autobox/electronic brain = more lag than a 56k modem!

Oh if i select Sport there is no hesitation...

I keep droning on about this because for me it is a VERY disapointing experience.

So is it the Drive-Auto that we are talking about here? Because If that's the case, then yes the Drive-Auto has quite a different approach to the shifting procedure, a very un-sporty one as it's not intended for this use and with the right road conditions, it can lead to quite dull reactions and feeling. No surprises there.

But I would just repeat myself If I said that If one wants to see what the vRS character and potential is all about, then he has to drive it in the manual mode, it's a much much more satisfactory experience.

He had problems with his therefore they're all ****e.

I'm entitled to an opinion, I gave it... deal with it? If I could roll the clock back and do it all again, I would of made a different decision.

Much of what I say is echo'd along this forum with faults, my car isn't unique to it unfortunately.

I'm entitled to an opinion, I gave it...

So was it a vRS or not?

Also, an opinion is much more appreciated If it's followed by some solid facts which I haven't seen being mentioned yet... otherwise it's called something else...

My car is a MC, not a VRS which aside from a 'model' is the same car lol... Otherwise it's called something else? Do tell?

If you get a good one, yes...If you get a bad one no!

Because this platform is used across different marques there is a lot of opion out there. I'm not happy with a few things on mine...as above and the creaks and groans are driving me to distraction, oil usage...quality issues, you're damn right!! Oh and I'm accedited to TS16949, THE automotive quality standard before all the "what do you expect for 15k" pipe up. I wouldn't like this car out of warranty. Its the first new car I've had where I'm already thinking of an exit strategy..albeit a 2yr one

I don't like this car IN warranty... Skoda Customer Service is beyond useless, they send you all these lovely marketing sheets about how 'easy' the complaints process is.. 4 months? Sound easy? I don't think so.

Once again you're confusing your opinion (which as you say, you are entitled to) with facts.

Oh come on... I clearly remember how your Monte was delivered and it was a pathetic case I'll give you that... Steering wheel pulling to the side, loosened parts and most strange sounds, and on top of this: different wheels on each side of the car! (Still can't understand how you drove away with this...) Now you couldn't seriously believe that Fabias, or any other car is actually delivered like this, could you? It was a horrible dealer and I acknowledge that, but because of him you are yet wandering the forums trying to convince people that the fabias are bad cars, skoda should die etc. etc. That's just childish behaviour to say the least, and makes you look funny despite the fact that you may have every right concerning the condition of your car, but you are losing the point in my opinion.

You have a bad experience, see what your opinion would be

I don't think EVERY fabia is a bad car... however like i said I would never recommend them to anyone based on my experience which I am entitled to do. Skoda have let me down big style so ofc I will never recommend them. Hopefully other people have had a more positive experience

all fair points, which brings me to the question, if you like the "rawness" of the clio so much, which is renownd for being one of the best hot hatches for driver feedback, nearly anything else will feel "less" in a way.. by selecting a DSG car, have you not gone the wrong way to what you naturally want in a driving experiance?

wouldn't you have been better off with something like an Abarth? similar price, 180bhp 1.4, slightly better spec actually, MANUAL gearbox..... or a second hand golf GTI or octy vRS? or if you really wanted to keep massive driver involvement, a second hand focus ST?

As for folk who want to continue driving "classic" cars, this is a slippery slope with beards and morris-dancing at the bottom.

And tartan carpet slippers.

 'Baffies' as they're known in Scotland.
