Peoples ancient attitude to Skoda

Featured Replies

In my experience at least, the jokes of Skoda were very true and had to get rid of the car as a rejection.

I would second that argument that badge snobbery is mainly present on the internet rather than in the real world. For someone to really look down on Skodas nowdays that would only mean one thing, how little does he actually know about car manufacturers over the last 15 years. So to start with, you shouldn't even bother with someone that apparently doesn't know what he is talking about. The skoda jokes and stereotypes are only to laugh with and the fact that they are being used by people who drive cars with much worse quality and reliability makes them even funnier. What is clear to me is that people have actually to resolve to such misleading stereotypes because they know all their arguments would be easily crushed If the conversation moved on to the actual technology, quality, performance, reliability area.

And finally, have you ever wondered why someone starts this conversation of looking down at your car in the first place? I mean, have you ever started talking down on a Hyundai (there are better today), or a Dacia maybe? I guess no, and that is because you knew how good or bad they were and you didn't have to prove anything. The problem appears when the car in question is actually a great car, then you have an opponent and then what could you accuse it of If everything has proven to be superior? The only thing that can't be enumerated or rationally tested, yep, b*##s$it...

I have owned Skodas since 2003 and have been very happy with them all, the cars are priced well and generally have a good spec. When I was looking for the car in 03 I wanted something sporty yet reliable and a good load carrier so ended up with an Octy vRS only got rid of it as the wife needed the bigger car and hated driving it due to the power (she still doesn't understand that throttles are not digital!). One of the things which helped me choose was the fact that the Police were using the Octy vRS and saw someone interviewing a copper who said he was retisent when the force got it as it was a 'Skoda' but once they started driving it they loved it. Taxi/cab drivers use them a lot which to me means, well priced, economical and reliable.

There will always be badge snobs and there will always be someone who dislikes the brand you drive, so what it is their problem.

Think I may have upset a Jag the other day, overtook him (safely and legally in a NSL) then proceeded into a nice set of bends, not long after the bends and back in a 40 he came screeming up behind me looking very serious, oh how I giggled!!!! :D

I'd rather drive a Skoda than push an Alfa.

Same here. Don't care how much "soul" it claims to have either

I hate it when with Italian cars they all talk about "passion", "temperament" etc. What a bunch of marketing poop!

Alfa mito is just a crappy punto !!

I drive a Skoda and have pushed an Alfa!

In Alfas defence I would point out that, depending on the model, you may have a handsome car to admire whilst you wait for the RAC.

Oh and we have a crappy punto Seb thanks.

They can keep thinking Skodas fit those stereotypes. If are that clueless about how Skoda are just think how stupid they normally are. Do you honestly want these sort of people driving Skodas? I'm not going to try and change their opinions.

I know a bloke who wouldnt buy a Skoda purely because he says he would be embarrased, because he remembers all the jokes first time around. So, what does he drive? A SEAT for gods sake, a car maker with a glorious past eh :giggle:

My mates brothers wife would not let her daughter buy a Yeti, even though it suited her perfectly because she didnt want a Skoda on the drive! So,she ended up with a Mercedes B Class, which is awful.

As for Alfas, now they are just ugly Fiat rip offs whereas they used to be individual and gorgeous. With proper engines and chassis too. The Mito is OK but the Punto is a better looker IMO.

the more badge snobs the better i say, last thing i want is every other car being a vrs

i love overtaking all sorts in my crap car and for the most part theres nothing they can do about it

What do you call a Skoda with twin exhausts? Says my buddy. A wheelbarrow! Hahahaha.

Well I now drive a wheelbarrow that's faster than the wheelbarrows normal contents off a shovel. Haha.

Yup the badge snobs are still there and they always will be, got a mate like that, gives me a huge laugh watching him waste money...As for those in the know just have a look at the long delivery times on a Skoda versus its competitors......now that says it all

Got our fist Skoda approx 14 year ago and got every joke going.

Twin exhaust = wheel barrow

Sunroof = skip

Petrol cap for a Skoda = parts guy says "that sounds like a fair exchange"

Heated rear window = to keep you hands warm

Fill the tank = double the value

ect.

Bought the present one in March, and only one person has come over with the old jokes, he drives a chrysler so has no room to talk.

Talking about people slagging of Skoda.

Alfas, now they are just ugly Fiat rip offs

Alfa mito is just a crappy punto

rather drive a Skoda than push an Alfa

Pots and Kettles me finks

All the guys at work take the p**s, but at college (where they are my age) they think it is a cool car

I certainly think it is, even though mine is only a 1 estate!

This is my first car, and I will always have a Skoda

...with a few extra £ on top. the punto is also a corsa underneath.

Sorry that came out wrong;) the mito is a punto but 2k pricier :)

To be fair, the name itself (meaning pitty) isn't particularly ideal.

To be honest, thinking back, all our school jokes were pointed towards Ladas. I never remember a mention about Skoda ? :S

A friend, up until a few years ago, used to have an old Lada, and it was a brilliant car. Never failed to start in the cold, and was very good in the snow

Not the most luxurius of rides, but very reliable

I've trawled through more reviews today in work (ahem ... in my lunch break) and can't find any bad reviews ?

Goes to show that most drivers know bugger all about cars :smirk:

One comparison that did stick out was the Skoda Fabia VRS 1.4TSi v Mazda MX3 !

im sure pitty stands for 'its a pitty you dont have one'

Edited by 1.4 To vRS

As "B.A." Baracus would say, "pitty the fool who buys a badge"

Unless it's one of Pastys :giggle:

I always thought the best joke was: What's the difference between driving a Skoda and putting your hand up Kylie Minogue's jumper? - Answer - You feel a tit in a Skoda.

Interesting that nowadays Kylie is hot and Skodas are cool!
