CAI and Forge

Featured Replies

Hello guys,

I am planning to replace DV and upgrade CAI to get a louder psssst sound. I have a remapped skoda octavia vrs 2002, 1.8t and I need advice from you about which CAI to buy for my skoda octavia vrs 2002, 1.8t. I have had the catalytic converter removed and I don't care about pollution regarding wheter it is legal or not :). Please help

K&N Typhoon induction kit:

K&N Typhoon CAI

Carbonio CAI kit:

Carbonio CAI

ABD Racing L.A.N. Pipe Fresh Air Intake System

ABD Racing CAI

Have you any experience with any of these three or are there other better available?

I also need help on which DV to buy :D:

Forge 007p:

forge007p

Forge split R:

Forge Split R

Which one do you think would make a louder noise?

Any advice would be great! Thanks.

Tomas.

If money is an issue ive got the £40 ebay CAI kit and just use a k&n filter, its only a tube after all!

Most use the forge 007 as the splitter R can have probs loosing boost? Still get nice woosh with CAI and 007 fitted :-)

Forge 007p or the Compbrake one that is the same just half the price of the Forge.

Ebay CAI and a universal K&N filter:

HPIM0839.jpg

Some spray paint and a few silicone hoses after:

IMG00035-20100812-2032.jpg

All a lot cheaper than an ABD, Carbonio, PX kit

Billy

Just to show where the filter goes with the CAI pipe:

Any kit will do you just need to make sure

a) the pipe is the right diameter for your MAF

b ) it keeps the cone filter behind the bumper in the cold air instead of in the engine bay

c) the cone filter is a decent quality one

I would go for the 007P over the Split-R if you're fitting a CAI, they need less adjusting than the Split-R and if you have a CAI you will still get the whoosh noise.

Okay good idea :), but the splitter R is more expensive and still not better?

NICE! Well done. And good to see the pic that shows where it takes the cold air. I wasn't sure until now where the exact place was :) Thanks for these helpful pictures.

Okay thanks, I'll kepp that in mind!

I've got a Carbonio & Forge DV, its OK, but not hugely entertaining :)

My missus doesnt like it at all, thinks its a bit chavvy.

thinks its a bit chavvy.

my thoughts exactly... thats why I took the Split-R off my old VRS in the end... didn't want to sound like a Vin Diesel wannabe!

You DONT need a CAI kit for a louder "ptshhhhh"

I've got a pipercross panel filter and a ebay special £40 diverter valve and its fairly loud. Been working for 13 months perfectly fine. £70 all in!

I'd stick with the 007P.

Okay I'll do that, can you sell me one? I'll PM you.

Compbrake will do mate, don't spend excess money on the same thing.

As for going for a CAI.... doesn't it reduce your torque?

hmmm okay I just trust Forge more ;) and I hope CAI doesn't reduce my torque!! ABD racing say it increases hp by 5-7 and increases air flow..

It's the same thing, think I heard they are actually the same thing. All forge do is stick a logo on it.

Thats what has always put me off having one. I would rather not lose torque for BHP.

okay could be right :)

I thought that you only lose torque with CAI if you don't have your ecu mapped. Correct me if I'm wrong ;)

No no no!!!!!!!!

Forge do NOT just stick a sticker on at all!!!!!!

Forge have been making these for years and years.

Someone came along and copied the Forge one......

But rather than using the same quality stuff , they use a cheaper version of it

The grease for one is not the same quality , and you also have to take in to account where the items have been made

Forge 007P , the machines for making them are in fact at the Gloucester head office.... I know that as I have seen them myself

Then where are the Compbrake ones made???????

Well I would rather pay for a Forge one and know for a fact that I have a lifetime guarantee  rather than keep my fingers crossed for a cheaper version

They have been copied for a reason , they are good

As for the CAI , I have always loved the Carbonio`s.....they look good , and in my opinion sound great

So that means I am a chav (if you was to see me sat at the computer with my furry slippers on and my Jedwood hair , you would not believe that)

The LAN pipe is good , but I always wondered if the heat from the metal intake would warm up , then defeat what the CAI was for (Cold air)

But hey.....my fav car in the world is the MK1 Vrs , and if I had one , then I can assure you I would be the chaff driving round with the 007P on and the Carbonio with the windows down even in the freezing cold to listen the the chav moise of the CAI

Oh and the SplitR is an adjustable dump valve

The 1.8T engine can`t take an atmosheric dump valve , so the clever people at Forge developed them to make them work

If you do the CAI you do not need the splitR

They do take some adjusting , but stick with CAI and 007P and you will be fine

Forge do sell direct to customers and do offer Forum discount for Briskoda memebers

I even remember their number too 01452 380999

I used to work for one of Forge`s largest retailers , and did ring up quite often to chat their UK sales manager they had at the time

Now I live with him , dont work for any tuning comapny either

Their ex UK sales manager does not work their either

But I can assure you that knowing this company , I would reccomend them to anyone , for their hard work , knowledge and the fact that they are proper UK manufacturer`s

Hi

No I dont , but may be worth a check , as you can do it on their web site too

Or give them a call

I never did it you see ;)

Have fun :D

Sarah

after reading this I'm now interested its got me thinking lol

do they really give much of a performance gain?

where do you put the vacuum pipe the goes into the lower part of the air box?

is this the kind of thing you mean on ebay

This kit is proably all you need but I'm going for a more expensive ABD racing just to be sure it is good quality..

the vacuum pipe goes down into the bumper to get more cold air than near the engine.

For the money they cost, no, not at all. Even if you buy an all singing all dancing CAI you may get 3 or 4 more horsepower... but it'll cost you over £100... and it won't feel any different.

You might as well spend the money on something that makes a noticeable difference like a RARB, shortshifter or dogbone mount.

But the good thing about modding , is that you get what you want , not what everyone else wants

If performace gains is what you want , then a CAI , DV and a remap , will give good gains together

Then there is the sound that they make

Why put a RARB on with standard suspension , if the suspension is going to be what they do say next year

If someone wants a CAI , then do it

carbonio , LAN pipe , or even just a panel filter , will give gains......

So with the amount of choices around , it caters for all tastes.....

That is what makes modding great fun , and in return gives :D all round

Sarah

And not paying Forge prices makes me :D all round too!

;)

What do I search on eBay for the cai tube and then just buy a universal k and n filter?
