black roof on fabia vrs

Featured Replies

I have just given my vrs it's first wash & wax and have noticed straight away a very slight scratch on the black roof. I washed and waxed the whole car in the same way but I want to know should I be more careful with the roof as it is vinyl.

Can't be many of those left - they had scarcity value only back in the mid-eighties.

Is that the same as a vinyl wrap?

Isn't the roof actually painted?

Gosh my dad had a vinyl roof on a Morris Marina Special, only 13 of those left thanks to Clarksons antics.

Perhaps it is a vinyl wrap, I remember washing the Marina as a kid and the roof had a similar texture to a tortilla.

Yes lets just hope it lasts longer than that type of vinyl roof

i thought the factory option was painted but aftermarket ones have been wrapped

Well mine was a factory option and it's definitively been wrapped you can see it clearly when you open the hatch and see the join.

I would have preferred it to be painted as I think it will show wear (especially around the top of the doors) over a period of time.

I'm pretty sure it's painted, try peeling that join in the boot it's not wrapped, its just where it's been masked to

I will have a look but I'm a bit worried about peeling it off

It's wrapped not painted, mine is at least and it was a factory option

How about the bit around the boot hinges and the top of the boot? Are they all wrapped? I'd assumed they and the roof were painted.

Is there anyway we can find out for sure.

If it came from the factory its painted.

+1 painted... Skoda metallic black.

I've had a proper look today an it's 100% paint on mine as in the boot next to the hinge there is a run in the paint when they have removed the masking tape after painting but before it's dried properly

Not uncommon for the dealers to wrap the roofs on request...

But yeah as said, factory spec will be painted

Now as for the scratch, pictures would help, do you have any polishing kit?

Its 100% painted I don't think any car manufacturers would use vinyl wrap, if unsure just put a match to it if it melts its vinyl.

It is a very slight scratch almost unoticeable, I gave it a rub with a lightly abrasive polish which did not work so I used a small amount of t.cut which made a little improvment.

I did not want to rub too hard incase it is vinyl and it would do more damage than good.

hmm, well this is strange, my roof is vinyl wrapped as well and it came from teh dealers that way, I ordered it with a black roof from the factory!

I wonder if there has been a change over? Or whether my dealer messed the order up?!

I'd double check mate then go for some compensation especially if they charged the £400 or whatever it is and get a cheap vinyl fitted for £100.

Hammer32:

As for the scratch try some auto glym super resin polish, bin the t-cut!

Or find someone with a machine polisher, when I got mine it was in a bit of a state, the roof that is, I gave it the once over with my dual action polisher and it came up like new.

But if you've never use one best to get a bit of practise first before you tackle yours
