S3 Brakes back from the powder coaters......

Straight fit mate. Just remove standard calipers (including the rubber brake line, so unbolt from the end of the metal pipe in the arch), pads and discs and then replace with the S3 and bleed the brakes.

Pagey they look stunning fella and love the vrs badges. One thing though is when those brakes get hot is that carbon gonna come peeling or melting off? Hope not as looks spot on

Thanks mate, I have got my fingers crossed it doesn't peel, unless I brake really hard for extended periods I don't think that part will get to hot...... :peek: :whew:

Also just a heads up for anyone looking to get this brake setup that the Audi A3 3.2 quattro sport comes with the exact same setup as the R32/S3/TTRS, but doesnt have the calipers painted and the retaining clips are smaller and plain.

Most breakers dont realise this and can get a bargain e.g. i got the full setup for £120 delivered and sold my standards for the same price. To say i was chuffed is an understatement lol and even better when they turn up and the pads and discs are like new!

Just bought the R32 pad clips and bit of time prep'in and painting and got S3 brakes on the cheap. Happy Dayz :)

Great info that. I'm keeping em peeled too as I'll have a set when they come up

I knew that, but when I was looking I couldn't find any. Do yours have the wing at the top and bottom of the caliper? I held out for S3 because I liked that styling feature.

I initially got a complete set, but didn't feel the need to fit the rears which I sold on, based on the price I paid minus the price for the rears, these little babies owe me a little over 300 quid, pads and discs are like new on them also.

Look good.

They look brilliant. Will be having a word with my company car insurance when back in after Christmas i think.

What's the life span of the discs and pads as a rule? 40/50k for both?

Would expect 60-70k from the discs on normal driving and approx 30k for pads but will depend on your driving style and what make/compound you have. But all just guestimates as done very few miles on them. Can confirm that they stop the octy well though :)

how big are the single pistons on these as the ones on my mondeo st are 57mm but still leave a lot to be desired

Coming from the standard 312mm setup on the vRS do these need any adjustments to work correctly with the car being setup with different brakes when built?

Also anyone running these on a FL vRS that has some pics of these behind Neptunes

No mate wont need anything adjustments only bleeding (remember that these calipers are gonna need to fill with fluid so get a mate to keep topping the reservoir up while you bleed them). Its up to you whether when changing the brakes you upgrade the fluid (I changed to Motul RBF 600).

I know i did see a pic on here of these brakes behind the neptunes and sure there was a bit of a discussion on whether they were a little bit of a tight fit for someone (possibly not fitting 17s and fitting behind 18s), but sure someone will confirm shortly if you dont find it on the search.

Yeah, I have them behind Neptunes but no pics at the moment. Mine fit with plenty of space to spare but VRS Carl had issues with his and had to grind a little off the calipers. Strange and we never found out why there was a difference.

That's interesting. Have you both got the Cupra setup as the S3 caliper is slightly different

Pretty sure we both have the R32 setup, which are the same as the Cupra and don't have the little S3 fin things.

Is the r32 exactly the same as the Cupra in design apart from being red? I know the S3 has a slightly different design with the 'fins'

Cheers for the replies guys - I'll evaluate the standard ones when I get my new car, they're bound to be better than the standard Octy 1 items and it'll be my new commuter - but, I'm used to the EBC discs and yellowstuff pads on my Beemer (almost hurts when you stamp on the middle pedal!)

Should be an interesting comparison! I'll update soon...

As far as I am aware, yes, just the colour is different. The Cupra (not sure about the newest model) didn't have the bigger rear brakes either. Ran the same as the vRS, 288mm I think.

I have the Cupra front 345mm set-up on my VRS and they looked the same as the S3 ones.

I went skoda GREEN for mine, had to get the paint shipped in from Germany to get a exact colour match but well worth it, they look awesome

Correct on the Cupra's only using the 288mm rear brakes

The 345mm front set up is identical across a lot of the VAG range with some having the fin design feature including most S3's, later Cupra's, TT-S and some later A3 3.2 Quattro's also have them. I was a bit miffed by Carl having to grind the caliper, Hedge did the same iirc???

That's my big issue with these at them moment. Would love a set behind my Neptunes but don't fancy having to grind them to fit.

I'm sure it was only a small amount across the top of the caliper, and as nobafett didn't have clearance issues you may be ok?! I'm sure if you PM Carl he will let you know what was involved.

Good call, will do.

Need to speak to my company car insurance first though. Plan is to get Midland VW to fit them then change back to my 312mm OEM setup when the car goes after 108,000 miles

I'm not sure about company car insurance but for info, I contacted my insurance recently due to an excessive increase at renewal, during the conversation I added the BBS CH reps, colour coded grille, HIDs, rear spoiler, S3 brake upgrade and imminent stage 2 software. They initially agreed to match last years premium (result) then added 20 quid for the mods, but stipulated that the increase was only due to performance mods, anything else cosmetic etc will not affect the premium (proper result).

Yup, gotta go with green but I understand why you had to go with red. Shame though.

I've got 2 lovely tins of the old shade of hammerite green to do all four on my L&K when the weather's better now my warranty's run out.;)
