Which brake fluid for 312mm upgrade?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Been reading around most people seem to recommend Dot 5.1 Brake fluid when upgrade Fab VRS brakes to the 312mm.

I also read somewhere that you can buy the wrong ones due to "Wet Boiling point".

Can anyone recommend or give me a link the correct fluid to buy?

Thanks in Advance.

I'm using motul rbf600 dot 4 at the moment but have also used halfords racing fluid which is a dot 5.1 with fine results. If your just driving on the road any brake fluid will do the job. If you venture onto the track buy the better stuff.

+1 for Halfirds, that's what I'm using and I don't have any complaints. My mate has a trade card so I got two bottles for £14.00 :D

Wet boiling point is the temp when the brake fluid has an amount of water in it, this is lower than the dry boiling point which when the fluid is brand new and has no water in it (brake fluid is hyroscopic which means is absorbs water which reduces it's efficentcy by lowering the boiling point which is why you change the stuff every two years)....I use EBC BF307+ fluid...... 132mm, that's very small brakes

Fitting my 312mm brakes tomorrow and I have 1L of the VAG stuff from TPS. its dot4 and should be more than ok for the job.

I'm not going to track the car so cant see much point in dot5.1

In the title, "Which brake fluid for 132mm upgrade?"

Don't worry. I'll edit it for you. ;)

I'm using ATE super blue racing in mine.

No complaints here.12-ATE-SUPER-BLUE-TYPE-200-GOLD-BRAKE-FLUID.jpg

think il go for it then!

just to confirm 1 Litres enough or should i order 2 Litres?

thanks :)

I bought 2 litres, worth having a bit spare anyway.

They also do a clear version of the exact same spec fluid so that next

time it's changed you can see when the new fluids coming through.

Neat idea. The way I see it is they are ATE brakes so using their own

fluid can't be a bad thing. It's uprated enough for me.

ATE blue is my weapon of choice! Made a big difference to my brakes and clutch just on street driving. Common sense prevailed too by having both red and blue, i mean how simple and how much easier to judge a bleedthrough

thanks guys

really daft question here but does the brake fluid double up as clutch fluid too? i.e same reservoir?

 You are correct, the reservoir feeds both brakes and clutch.
