Yeti reliability/build quality

Featured Replies

Browsing this forum it is quite noticable how many niggling problems/faults are reported covering a wide

range of areas/issues.

I know that forums can be populated by 'negative' topics but does the posts from Yeti enthusiasts mean

the fault level of what is a relatively new car is higher than average?

I have run Honda's for many years with only servicing and normal wear items causing expense.

Had niggling issues myself mainly trim/paint and electronics related but enough to query the longer term

quality outlook.

Really ? Not the impression I'm getting (but then I am a "glass half full" person)

:smirk:

I would say it was quite the opposite, Kibby.

Yes there are some minor "problems" being brought up, but I haven't seen anything that has been serious. In fact this is one of the few Forums where there are happy owners posting.

IMHO it's the best car in our range for issues (not that any of the current as really bad) there are a few but the factory have been pretty good with sorting them out as we spent a lot of time reporting early issues.

I'd have one in a heart beat given the finances.

In 18 months time ......I will be buying another yeti.....yes it's that good

Had two Yeti's and to be honest I've had minor niff naff with both. First one was build quality, in that it rattled and creaked quite a lot and the current one has had one or two very minor electrical gremlins, plus a DPF that likes to regen a lot, although I've yet to get a warning light.

However this has not detracted from what is in my humble opinion one of the most user friendly modes of transport on the road today.

Oh the most unreliable cars I've owned were a pair of mid 90's production BMW's and an early 306.

Having to take it back over 'niff naff' issues can be a pain I can do without especially as dealer(s) can be

bit dismissive it a fault code doesn't show up on intermittant faults.

Had a bit of a run-around to date with dealer fob off which is less than what I have been used to at a Honda dealership. They don't seem to understand you don't take cars back continually for nothing and a 'no fault' code

doesn't or shouldn't let them off the hook. Seem too worried in not getting paid by Skoda ignoring effect on customer.

Will consider another dealer for next car...maybe not a Yeti, although will be difficult to find without spending

a fair bit more. (£4k+)

We run a Yeti and a Fabia, both from new.

The Yeti does do less milage but it's been trouble free for a year and a half.

The Fabia has had a clutch cylinder pop, leaving me with no clutch pedal, and also an intermitant EGR fault that has now been sorted both within a year.

There was a bad rattle that turned out to be a loose fastener in the tailgate too.

Yeti all the way for us.

Nearly 27k miles on mine, and no complaints. Replaced a tail light bulb and a number plate bulb in the last couple of months. As good or better than any car I've ever owned, including 4 VWs, two Audis and a Volvo. Least reliable car I ever owned was a Subaru.

Reading that, Kibby, it appears that your comment is more of a "problem" with the dealer than with the actual car, and in that I may agree with you, as it certainly does appear that some dealers do leave a lot to be desired.

Mine's now done nearly 35k miles, used a set of tyres and had one service.(And a visit to a body shop) Yes, I had a "problem" with a bulb that was supposed to be long-life blowing, which had to be sorted out via SUK, but really if the dealer had used his noddle I wouldn't have had to bring it up here.

I would actually argue that relatively new cars have more niggling faults than ones which have been in production for longer as it always takes the manufacturers a while to iron out the teething problems.

That said, touch wood no problems at all with my monster so far.

To be honest I've very little to complain about with my Yeti, except, maybe, the DSG which 'lets go' on inclines (as mentioned recently) and is a bit touchy when pulling away sharpish, however they don't trouble me unduly. But I've also had 2 Hyundais which caused/continue to cause me to grizzle and so I sympathise with kibby if he's got one which has problems. The first Hyundai had all the acknowledged "issues" which Hyundai knew about but they dragged their heels in finding fixes for them....and the present one has an "issue" which they've washed their hands of and left me less than satisfied. BUT this the i10 model that everyone raves about and so when you get one (or two) which isn't as great as everyone else says, you do feel a bit aggrieved. So, kibby, yes, if you're not such a happy bunny, I understand what you're saying and having people keeping on about how great their own model is won't make you feel any better. The Yeti may well please the majority, as it does myself, but if your one, or your dealer, is letting you down then it's understandable that kibby will air his views, I feel. I also had a Honda before the Skoda and the Hyundais and, personally, found it, and the dealer's servicing team, to be beyond reproach so it's a bummer for kibby when he's swapped and got a bit of a lemon.

Have you tried getting the ecu software update for the DSG ??...I did and it cured the 'pulling away sharpish' problem you describe.

without question the most reliable, least problematical vee-hickle I have ever owned (includes oodles of VWs, Audis and - er - a few Ren-ose.)

And dealer support has been exemplary in every way. (Sinclair Skoda, Swansea). I am certain that much of the support from dealers will depend upon how we approach them... ... ...whinge ad nauseam, and they will get well peed off with you; work together and understand each other - nirvana.

Lucky you!!!

Yes I did try...they said there wasn't anything showing. When I mentioned getting in to the main computer (or whatever it was I was told on here to suggest) they didn't seem to recognize what I was saying (but I'm used to that now - no-one ever does.... )

Ta for suggestion, though.

Mine was done about 2-3 months ago ...a download from the Czech factory as they initially couldn't find it but I PERSISTED and they then found it!!! I have found my dealer a bit lacking in the product knowledge area and had to point them in the right direction with regard to spare wheel option that they fouled up on (wrong parts ordered, got correct info from this forum).

I have had 1 Skoda Estelle, 2 x Skoda favorits, 1 x Skoda Estelle, 5 x Skoda Octavias and now have a Skoda Yeti.

I had a jammed odometer out of warranty on the 2nd Favorit but Skoda fixed it out of warranty as "it should not have happened", and I had to replace a tail light on one of the Octavias. One Octavia wasn't able to withstand an impact from a falling tree (it blocked a four lane road).

Other than that I have never had a problem. Early days with the yeti but I have no reason to expect it will be any different to its predecessors.

I'm sure you're right...but however nice I was with my Hyundai dealer (and I was as nice as a very nice thing) - and remain so, the response from Hyundai's so-called 'Customer Service' was/is abysmal. It doesn't help that they are third party agency staff working in the same call centre as the RAC - rather than employed by Hyundai and working at Head Office. Their sole objective is to fend off us little people and keep Hyundai's Chief Executive isolated behind an impervious layer of security and aloof privacy :wall: and kept distant from us dross who only pay for the product and then become a nuisance when they've got their money. :swear::thumbdown::finger:

There - see what you've done!!!! You've got me started...I was OK a minute ago, now look what you've done!!!!!!!!!!

Sad to report SKODA customer service is outsourced!!! The way its going everywhere.

I'll remember that and when it goes in for it's service, mention what you've said....TBH it's not really bad enough to take it back just for that now I've got used to it.

Ta.

Mine has proven to be exceptionally well built and reliable over the course of the last 20k miles. Only problem to report is a defective skoda boot badge that is getting replaced in April when it goes in for it's next service. No interior rattles at all touch wood as they would drive me mad! :giggle: Without doubt the best all round car I've owned.

I'm afraid it's a bit cryptic at the moment, as I can't/won't divulge the details until resolution is implemented, but I am currently in the middle of a customer care situation with Skoda UK and their action so far and promised resolution has been outstanding.

As and when this becomes reality (within the next 3 or 4 days) I will divulge all; I just wanted to post a positive for SUK (although there's still time to disappoint!).

We are replacing our Honda Civic with the Yeti (6 year old ) and to be honestI I would never buy Honda again! We have been through three dealers and all are arrogant and incompetant! Build quality and customer service are utter s##t!

11500 miles and 1 year, one failure of a minor nature. The seat pad heating element on the drivers side which will be replaced on tuesday. One call to my dealer and booked in on a drive in basis on 48 hours notice.

My recent main vehicles (most recent first) have been Seat Leon, Lexus IS300, Bmw Mini, Lexus 400 (grey import Toyota).

For build quality the Yeti is near to the Lexus and for reliability it is also close.

Astonishingly good -as a Skoda newcomer I am impressed.
