this thread needs more 'after fitting' pics :)

Friday ;)

Got mine fitted was allot of messing around. Had to make the hanger closest to the back about 2 inches longer to get the tips anywhere near the gap in the bumper. Still needs a bit of fiddling to get it bang on. Will add photos tomorrow.

Did you use the fitting kit supplied out of interest? I notice there is a hanger there and also a new exhaust rubber?

To say that cost less than £200 for a brand new exhaust they look bloody brilliant!

Bargain of the year.

Well, mine is in today to be fitted.

I'm expecting it to come back needing some fine tuning based on other experience on here, but i can live with that, i'll take it to a local fabricators (Powerflow or something) and get them to make the necessary adjustments. That said, i told them to give me a call if they encountered any problems with the fitting, it was dropped off at 12pm so as they say, no news is good news!

Update:

Got the car back from the fitters and the result is?

FK Exhaust back in the box packaged up ready to be sent back to FK. VERY poor fit. I didn't see it for myself but the chap said there was no way on earth you could get the tailpipes to line up with the bumper, and even if you did it would need chopping a bit. They were sat too far to the left and to get it to fit right would have meant chopping and modifying the brackets.

True what they say... buy cheap buy twice :D

I'm sure a local powerflow place could reweld the brackets to suit

Worst case scenario would be a new curved section being made up to fit the back box and middle pipe together

Second opinion maybe??

I agree above mine was fiddly as I told you, but the lads got nearly there, no cutting or making new brackets or welding. I need to get the last little twist out of it and was going to visit a fabricator when I have the time. But to say it will go nowhere near the car is over the top, granted its a little bit of pulling twisting getting all the pipes lined up but like the guy said to me most exhausts are like this mate dont worry. Deffo second opinion.

Guys,

I get that it was a bargain, but a bargain stops being that when you have to spend money have new pipes, brackets etc fabricated. Its sold as a direct fit exhaust, the same problems don't occur with more reputable brands (Milltek, Piper etc). I know they are a lot more expensive but still, the FK was sold as a direct fit, not a "weld new brackets" system!

I'm not annoyed about it, things like this happen and its just a case of bad luck, i personally would rather just send it back and get a refund than mess about with different people trying to make it fit right :)

But to say it will go nowhere near the car is over the top

Its not that it won't go anywhere near the car, it fits on the car, its getting it to line up with the bumper cut out thats the problem!

Fair do's - let us know how you get on with them...

I've had a few aftermarket exhausts fitted over the years and most have never been a direct fit as such and needed some tweaks, they are at the end of the day aftermarket system and not oem

Out of interest how much did the garage charge you today for the work carried out?

Mines up in the loft now, no rush to fit (or try to fit!!), even if the local powerflow place charged me another £100 to fit it when I need it done it would still work out cheaper than a second hand stainless system and certainly cheaper than a new standard one from Skoda!!

I did only pay £100 delivered for mine though, and they sent the more expensive twin 90mm one and not the DTM I ordered :giggle:

If you did not see it then you only have the garage word on how bad it is. My experience of even reputable fitters is they can't be bothered to adjust or mess a little if not a completely clean fit and it takes longer than expected. My Piper and previous miltek still needed messing about to align up properly and I fitted those myself, and will be doing it on this one too. I have never been beaten on even poor fitting stuff so maybe thrown the gauntlet down for this one. :giggle:

Can understand why you don't want the hassle though..

no fitted pics yet then lads?

Will defo put a pic up soon.

I had a direct fit scorpion fitted to a mk3 Astra once by scorpion took them 2 an a bit hours and it still needed a bit of fiddling.

Hi guys,

Could someone who has got one of the exhausts do me a favour? They all have part numbers stamped on the exhaust and box it was shipped in, could one of you just have a look (Twin 90mm system if possible) and see what the product code stamp is on the box/system?

The numbers on my box have been crossed out and the last digit changed, i'm wondering if they've possibly sent me the incorrect system?

This is on one section of the box...

But then on the other sides...

Quick bit of googling shows that FKDDSK903-2 is the Twin 90mm and FKDDSK903-3 is the Upswept letterbox. Both seem to be for the Octavia however so it doesn't look like its for a different car!

Oh well, will wait until Monday for a response from FK!

Mine is FKDDSK903-1 which is for the upswept twin DTM.

These exhausts are not specific to the VRS as I don't recall it stating VRS on the page so maybe the exist to the rear is different to VRS? can't think why it would be though. Although the VRS is the only version with bumper cut out for exhaust exist. Not sure that makes a difference as the VRS bumper i think is lower to compensate. What I have noticed when looking at the FK exhaust is the rear silencer sits very far back from the exhaust end, unlike my Piper exhaust, for those folks who have theirs fitted i take it the rear silencer clears the bodywork ok?

Also the Exhaust comes with mounting brackets that the rear box must use.

can't believe no one has fitted their exhaust themselves and had to relie on the garages opinions!!

Every single exhaust i've fitted be it brand new or second hand has always taken fettling. My Corrado being the least fun.

Spin it at one place and the whole system will change. Hence why custom ones usually are a better fit as they're made in stages.

Just takes a bit of time to get it right in my book. :)

Even if the tailpipes did line up, the most rearward hanger is too short for the mount on the car. The whole fitting kit was used and they still couldn't get it right. The hanger supplied for the rear of the back box (one next to the rear beam) made things a little better but still not right.

I've fitted a handful of exhausts at home but its a pain lying under the car. Are you really suggesting that its better to do it at home on the driveway instead of a garage that fits exhausts day in and out with the full use of a ramp? They're not just any old garage that i've turned up at, they have done a few exhausts on other cars for me in the past and we've never encountered problems like this.

Who's to say the exhaust wasn't fabricated on the jig properly and something is welded on out of alignment? It could be anything stopping it from fitting right!

I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong, however im my particular car it just hasn't worked out at all :)

What happened with FK Philip - did you send it back and get a refund?

Anyone else fiited the exhaust yet??
