Octavia vrs petrol remap

Featured Replies

so is the shark remap, it's not some back of a fag packet idea like some probably are.

You're entitled to your opinion but I've driven shark and revo back to back on identical cars and the Revo map was far better in every respect. The Revo car (mine) felt like it had more power and more torque and it was a bit quicker. This was with the Revo set to performance mode 1. In performance mode 2 the Revo car just walked away.

The Shark car hestitated too sometimes, a bit like old fashioned turbo lag. I have heard of others with this same problem. My friend whose car it was spoke with Shark and got sent an updated map which felt noticeably down on power compared to the previous one although it did make the hesitation less noticeable.

To cut a long story short my friend got his money back and invested in Revo instead. If he hadn't driven my Revo car he wouldn't of known any better and may of thought, like many on here, that his Shark remap was great but having tried mine he knew it was inferior. He felt that whilst the Shark customer service was good he was disappointed with the product and felt his car was being used to test a fix to the hestitation problem (interesting that you used the back of a fag packet analogy above) when really this should have been properly tested and assured prior to release. Unfortuneatly with these custom remaps that people think are so great this is the problem.

Whenever people ask about remaps on here my advice is to seek the opinions of those that have driven more than one tuners map on the same model of car otherwise they have nothing to compare it to. I will always recommend Revo for the vRS tsi based on this experience however invariably the opinions and therefore recommendations of some are based soley on experience of one tuners map.

I would also like to add that if you're happy with a product, why change. I have had REVO remaps before & I have been very happy.

Would like to run it up the A19 to the Leam to visit MIL but I have had a car damaged there before so I go in an old Astra. :@

I think the topic of remaps is a tabboo. What maps feels great to one person may not feel great to another. Its down to personal taste on how you want the power to be delivered etc. I've had two shark maps on my TFSi and have been pleased with both. I had thought about Revo, as there is a Revo dealer near me but I opted for Shark as their HQ is on my doorstep. My main concern was thet revo maps were stated to be very aggressive and give that big low down shove. I was more concerned about my clutch and reading what other people had experienced and wanted the power a bit higher in the rev range. Both products are good but its really down to what an individual person wants.

I think the story of your friend has been heard before and this one experience appears to have tarnished your view of us. It is worth noting that the first thing your friend asked when he called to buy his map and STS was about our refund policy.. it was almost as though he'd decided before he called us that he would go to Revo but would give us a try first as we were cheaper (I think it was around the time of a group buy). He wasn't happy and didn't want to bring the car to us for us to have a look at it, we refunded him, simple.

His car apparently hesitated, scores of others haven't. We tried to solve the problem for a customer by sending altered maps, I would call that good customer service rather than "testing a fix" whereas most tuners would simply say "it's the car" and that's that.

It's all personal choice at the end of the day and we always do our best to help if/when problems do arise, whether it's map related or not.

You're right, I can't compare as I have only ever driven one remapped car. All I can do is two things, subjectively give a view on the difference between standard and remapped, and after next week confirm it with data, after all that's what counts. To be honest, without power / torque curves being posted this topic is just opinion. on the MkVGTi forum there is just that - a thread with pics of the curves.

Whilst the story has been heard before I think it still remains relevant and underpins the judgement I have made so has to be explained.

Don't get me wrong, I don't have a tarnished view of Shark, I just hold the personal opinion based on experience that for the vRS tsi the Revo map is better hence that's the one I would recommend. I wouldn't and don't comment on how good or not that Revo, Shark or any other tuner's maps are for most other engines as I don't have the personal experience.

Regarding the hestitation, whilst I'm sure scores of others haven't, a number still have and people should be aware before they commit their hard earned cash.

And those people who have should get in touch, because we're not aware of them

Strange they haven't as the 'hesitation problem' has been mentioned a few times on here. Nickyboy was the last one I heard about but he changed his car.

I saw him at Audi Driver International and it wasn't mentioned then, either way if anyone does experience any problems, we are only a phonecall away and very happy to help.

Although to be fair my shark map hesitated at 3k rpm.

He probably wasn't ar5ed once he got his S4

Would you be? :D

But seriously, it's impossible for us to keep an eye on every forum post but if we have ANY unhappy customers then we will work our hardest to get to the bottom of the problem and sort it out. We're only a phonecall away.

I know of at least two people who removed Revo maps and went elsewhere as they weren't happy. Likewise I recommended Revo to a friend with a Ibiza Cupra and they have been absolutely delighted.

You'll always hear differing opinions about tuners and tuners have differing opinions about what is best.

I have a lot of experience of running modified cars (BAM engined Elise, Honda K20a engined Elise, lots of remapped cars with different ecu's etc) and to be honest, I could pick holes in all the tuners I've ever visited.

Having spoken with the guys at Shark and looking at opinion of them on here, I've opted for them over some of the other bigger VAG tuners - bigger isn't alway better.

Unless you prefer shopping at Tesco to Waitrose!

I would very much like to get my car on a rolling road but I can't find one in East Yorkshire that can do a DSG :wall:

Can't Ricci Concept in Hull help, they're a VAG specialist with a rolling road - you'd expect they'd be able to cater for DSG cars.

Running a DSG car on a rolling road is no different to doing a manual car.

I assumed that to be the case but how do stop it auto changing up or do you not need to rev it all the way?

Rev it until it changes and immediately go to neutral on our dyno. Most coast down dynos would be the same, Dyno Dynamics you'd flick the switch to end the run just as it changes (they don't calculate coast down).

Still keep saying no such thing as East Yorkshire, it is North Yorkshire, south and west, and Humberside ,

Dredging this topic up from a while back but I'm interested in the power gains but also the economy increase. Real world driving, what kinda gains are people seeing from a stage 1 Revo/Shark map on a 2.0T vRS? Minimal?

Mine went up by about 2mpg. Nowhere near the gains on a diesel.
