24 hours in the new Yeti

Featured Replies

Well, I collected my Yeti yesterday amid much excitement. It's a steel grey, Elegance, 170 4x4. It's already been on its first long run and has now got 152 miles on the clock! I've got to say it's really comfortable and seems to be a great cruiser on the motorway, which is a big plus for me.http://ww1.briskoda.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I'm afraid I have a query about bluetooth streaming. I've read the manuals and the previous threads on here, but I can't seem to find the answer.

I have the amundsen sat nav and I have paired my iphone 4s, as a media player. I am able to stream music from the phone but the track title etc isn't displayed and the system can't skip tracks. In my last car (which was a Prius) the bluetooth streaming included the track information on the display and allowed the steering wheel controls. I believe that it needs to be A2DP enabled and that the iphone 4s, running ios 5, has that capability.

Has anybody managed to get their iphone streaming to display the track details or to allow the steering wheel controls to work on playback? It's not the end of the world if it can't be done, but it would certainly be more convenient.http://ww1.briskoda.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0100-smile.gif

Thanks chaps.

happy for you Sweens.Enjoy your Yeti.Buying it is one of the best decisions you have made in your life, beleive me

Glad you're enjoying it. Alas BOTH sides of the system needs to have A2DP for it to work. The Amundsen/Bolero/Columbus does not. The iPhone 4S is the first phone with Bluetooth 4 but alas that did not solve this problem either. So you have to control the music from your iPhone. A pain, especially if you had been used to doing this on your (older) Prius!

[As an aside: what on earth are your tree hugging friends saying about you upgrading from a tree-huggers-delight Prius to a 170hp 4x4?!?!? :giggle: ]

Perfect ecplanation, Johann, thank you. I suppose I could always consider retro fitting an MDI. Something to think about in the future!

As for the aside, I've gone from a tree hugger to a forest dweller! The Prius had lots of advantages and was comfortable and very cheap to run. It also had lots of gadgetry to keep me amused. But you're not allowed to tow with a hybrid. My wife has recently come into possession of a horse and we needed something with decent towing capabilities, but not with the punitive mpg of a large SUV. So, the 170 was the perfect choice, being the most powerful and, seemingly, the most economical of the 4x4 Yeti's - at least on paper.

I've had a couple of 4x4's before, a Rav4 and a Honda CRV, so I guess the Prius was the break from the norm, rather than the Yeti.

Johaan I can control my Galaxy S2 when streaming music to the Bolero with the mfsw. Can also do it in the Golf with the RNS 510 /Columbus.

I have the iPhone 4s streaming with the Bolero. I can see the track name and artist on the Bolero screen. And control the music from the steering wheel.

Why not put all your tunes on to a SD card and control it all from the steering wheel got a 8GB card with more than i can listen to on the longest drive

SD cards undoubtedly work but they are terribly clunky to operate once you compare them with the control of an Apple-and from what I read- a Samsung interface.

I have fitted an MDI and have a Nano connected and the control through the Bolero is much better. I had inconsistent results with Bluetooth streaming and, for me, the unpredictability made me give up. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't.

Since the same head unit is available with an MDI interface it does seem Skoda are being cheap not offering it as an option.

That's SUK of course, not Skoda more generally (as I dare say you're aware but just underlining the point). MDI is available at least as an option in many Yeti markets.

....and an option on several SUK cars!

I had a Fabia 1.2 SE+ last week as a courtesy car - that had a factory fitted MDI.

I have an iPhone 4 running the new OS.

I can also do everything I need on the steering wheel-albeit I have to select the playlist on the phone.

Having read a few posts I am thinking about converting music to MP3 and buying an SD card so that I can select the playlists etc. That would seem, for me anyway, the way to go.

Also I am not convinced that the quality of the sound via Bluetooth is that great. Seems to be lacking in "depth" whereas with CDs it is fine.....

OH!!!!!!!!!!!! Your Bolero must have a later firmware update than mine (Nov 2010). Can a dealer upgrade the firmware to enable this? It would save me having to get the MDI.

Can't MDI be retrofitted in the glovebox like it is in my Octavia?

Indeed MDI can be retro-fitted to a Yeti wherever you like.

In the wifes Monte when we first started bluetooth streaming it pulled everything through to the Amundsen+ headunit, tracklist, time etc. You could skip tracks and the detail was displayed.

All of a sudden (no discernable changes/reason) although the track would move on the information on the headunit didnt change. Also there is an annoying intermittent miscrosecond gap in playback.

Although she has MDI ive dropped a 32Gb SD card full of tunes straight into the Amundsen... works a treat.

I do however have a bit of an issue with the SD/CD SatNav but ill start a new thread on that.
