Anyone got a spare £45k?

Featured Replies

GTR for me every time. Have a look on YouTube for Chris Harris comparing the 2012 GTR with F10 M5. When I can afford one in a few years (house comes first) I'll get one. M5 is tempting for a day to day driver though. After seeing the review I'd have to have a serious think

I couldn't care less how fast it is. It's a pig ugly Datsun in my eyes. The Japanese love to copy everyone elses designs and technology and pretend it's thier own.

You can strap a rocket on a shopping trolley and it'll beat an M5.

But hey, I own a Skoda so who am I to have an opinion ..... lol ;-)

  • Well if you had bothered to read....and understand the previuos posts by me and others....and look into it........you would realise that they HAVE a racing heritage....!!!! SO STOP TROLLING!!!!!!!!!!

  • So lets get this right, you've linked to a 12 year old Nissan that cost 55k and is now selling for £21k. A loss of 34k in 12 years. And your comparing that to an Audi RS6 Avant which is nearly 4 yea

Your comments are amusing, but I'm guessing designed to provoke a response.

Please have a look at the R35 GT-R and tell me which car design the Japanse have copied.

I'd be interested to see what key technology on it you think they've copied too.

Or is this a generic anti-Japanese car rant with no basis in fact on the car we are talking about?

Lets not forget Audi are talking about bringing this A1 quattro out into the UK market although it will be named the S1 and theres further talks of and RS1 which i have written about in a previous thread

The Japanese car manufacturers like to stand on the shoulders of giants.

Senna had to show them how to make a road car decent. There's nothing extraordinary about the GTR besides it does A better than B cheaper.

Auto Union were lapping the Ring when The Japanese were still playing Ninja.

Let's not get into an argument about who's Dad's bigger than who's, I'd have an Audi over a Datsun any day. My opinion of course.

He's posting from 1972.

This Audi will need to be exceptional to justify that price tag as a car rather than a collectable. And if people want collectables I would suggest handbags instead.

Audi vs Datsun (Neesan) you need to read some books.

Janet & John? Winnie the Pooh? The Gruffalo? Give us a clue.

I can't even believe this conversation is taking place. A1 vs GTR? please, I would be surprised if the A1 were fit to clean a GTR's boots.

I've thought long and hard what I would spend £50K on a toy would be and it isn't the GTR. Doesn't look the part despite being an astonishing piece of engineering for which the Japanese deserve a lot of credit. I'd probably get an R8 instead. Looks the part, walks the walk and I don't love it so see it no ore than a toy. That's what this comes down to, A1 or nicely worn in R8?

0-60 in 5.7 seconds lol.

Buy a vRS/Polo GTi/Ibiza Cupra, spend £350 on a remap, £500 on a FMIC. That's 0-60 in around 5.5 seconds or less. Then spend £30k on a house/another car.

What a silly price for what isn't even a particularly nice car IMO.

And for those of you slagging off the GTR, you all drive <£20k Skoda's, Mazda's, Seat's etc. so how you can slag of a car that will laugh in the face of almost any Ferrari, Porsche or Lamborghini for less than half the price of any of them beggars belief.

I am not getting into an argument.

You made a statement about why you didn't like the GT-R, having a go at Japanese car makers.

I asked a question, giving you a chance to back up your points in regards to the GT-R.

You didn't answer. Instead you had another general rant about Japanese car makers in a rather sterotypical fashion.

In short, you side stepped the question.

Therefore I will not get involved in an argument because quite clearly in relation to the specific car we were discussing (the R35 GT-R) you don't really have the information.

I am somewhat curious as a fellow Skoda owner how you complain about "standing on the shoulders of giants" though.

Because most of us are driving VW clones. ;)

No offence, but I do have an R35 GT-R so I do know a fair bit about it.

But I agree it's not a looker. :giggle:

Anyway. Is a 4wd A1 worth 45k... Hell no!

I love the GTR, would have one over a similar Audi any day - although i'd have the R8 V10 over the GTR... :p

Don't think any other Japanese car really does it for me, Evo, Scooby, Lexus etc - prefer the Germans to those lot :D

Waiting to meet BossFox at a meet and get taken for a spin...

I'm hoping to be at the Maidstone meet in a few weeks...

Yes, R8 is a looker.

My best mates Evo 8 is seriously quick, bigger turbo etc etc - 3.5 sec to 60 but its a bit meh :smirk:

I'll aim to be at the Maidstone meet, always good to meet fellow members

That Audi is expensive....BUT alot of that goes into putting the 4wd package into a Fabia sized car!!!......PLUS the gold rings on the grill...... :giggle:

Would I spend £45K on a 4wd car that size????....NO

What would I spend £45K on?????

Get a 4wd MKI Octavia, and rebuild & tune it to 400+ bhp........ B)

Can i just point out that in the motorsport world its VW who are standing on the shoulders as Skoda have and are absalutly blitzing the rally world and although yes they have the same engines as VW's i think you'll find when you look into it the TSI engine was infact developed by the Skoda side of VAG it's only the DSG which comes courtesy of VW and there are romours that we may see skoda in the F1 at some point in the near future... Hows that for leading the way  ..... Remind me again what it is Nissan are leading the way in? as i belive the GTR engine and chassis and suspension wernt actualy developed by nissan

And i can pretty much guess your going to tell me VW own Skoda which i am well awear of but they only fund Skoda and their ideas the same sa they now own Lamborghini but the engine in the lambo wasn't desighned by VW

Much rather spend it on a mint condtion lancia delta evoluzonie and own a piece of rallying history

Nothing of the sort actually. :D

You seem to have read what I wrote and gone off on a bit of a tangent.

This is not a "Nissan are great" thread or anything of the sort. I think Nissan are average in general and other then the GT-R I'd not touch any of their cars. This is why I own a number of Skodas, it's because I like them. They are currently my favorite car maker.

We somehow got onto the topic of the GT-R and a poster above criticised it with generic Japansese car company comments which don't apply to it. Which I was pointing out. This is not a crusade. :)

I stand by what I said, the GT-R is not a copy of design or technology from another car model/maker.

But in my opinion if Skoda had not had access to the VW parts bit and tech it would not be here today in anything like the great shape it's in. So it seems wrong as a Skoda owner to criticise another car for copying tech and design when it didn't.

Hopefully that's that all sorted, because I'm going out now... :D

To use a Jeremy Clarkson line, "it looks as though it's crashed into a Halfords window and all the bits have stuck to it"

Is the A1 worth the money ? Who knows.

The UR Quattro was "way overpriced" when it hit the scene in 1981 (when Datsuns were Datsuns)

and we all know what that went on to do.

With any luck, Audi will return to rallying and the Japanese can go about thier business building rocket propelled cars that have about as much heritage & style as erm ...... thier previous efforts.

I hope you enjoy your car, honestly, but don't expect everybody to like it. Yes, it's bloody fast but don't start comparing them to Ferraris etc because of the price. 45k will buy you a nice used Italian or British racing car and not just a Sony Playstation on wheels.

Group hug now lol ;-)

I have to agree i would buy a Nissan GTR for the money, i mean that the reason i bought a fabia VRS as i believe it to be the best performance for the money on the market, at time of purchase.

In the future i hope to own a GTR R35 (hopefully, we can all dream), anyone hear about the nissan GTR AMS alpha 12, now that is seriously fast lol

Heritage......hhhmmmmm.........you obviously have forgotton that over in Japan, Aus, etc that the "datsuns" have a huge following and race pedigree.........And you have forgotton that both Ralliart and Prodrive DOMINATED the Rally scene over here with Scoobies and Mitsu's.....and that many rally drivers still prefer the jap cars!!!!!!

As for getting a used British/italian "racing car" for £45k.........EVO mag just drove their "Datsun" from Lands end to John o Groats non-stop in winter conditions..........your £45K worth of used italian or British "race car" won't get 10miles!!!!!!........thats if you could start it in the cold......

A GTR might look FUGLY.......It might just be a "playstation" car, and just a "Datsun".....but it stops, goes, corners as it says on the tin.........NOT just when the sun is out and earth is on a paralex to the sun with moon in a geo-syncronus orbit, with Jupiter ascending in bla..bla....... B)

AS for Audi getting back into Rallying......doubt it as the brand is too "cool" executive etc ............just seen a Lancia Evo in full Rally spec just go by.........Ohhhhhhh F4ck forgot it's the Snowman this weekend!!

Nothing of the sort actually. :D

I see... The GTR is a great car and all the mech and electrics run in perfect harmony but it has no pedigree if a car is not seen to be famous in what it does the value of that car drops dramatically the A1 although expensive will hold its value well as will the Fabia because of its fame and background its a car that attracts enthusiast which is why its value is priceless

The A1 4wd is a limited run car and will only hold it's value because of this.....BUT if they build the S1 which will be the same but less power this will affect the value of the A1 4wd..

If you want "excusivity" and holding it's value....then try to get your hands on the Nissan Skyline GTR34 Nismo Z-Tune........

Spot on with race pedigree. The original Skylines were banned from some races for being too quick for the competition and the current GTR races in many race series including Le Mans. The GTR may not be the prettiest car but as a piece of engineering its epic and if i had the money I would buy one. Wouldn't buy anything else Nissan mind you
