Dithering over Yeti

Featured Replies

Thanks Expatman you make good points, i may not be in a position to buy a new car again so you'll appreciate my thought process as far as the engine longevity

I looked into this in great detail because, like you, I thought a 1.2 engine was "too small" - guess I am of a vintage that anything below 1.5 litres was puny! Only after a great deal of research and several test drives did I decide buy a 1.2 TSI DSG Yeti. 'My' Yeti is due to be made next week (Week 8) and delivery is promised for mid/end March. Incidentally I specified 16" Moon alloys rather than the standard 17" wheels because the ride on the higher profile 60 tyres is much better than low profile 50 tyres.

The Plumber tipped me off to this and I test drove both 16" and 17" wheeled Yeti's before choosing the 16" version.

I wish mine had 16s on it...boing boing boing!

I came from a 2.6 Audi, and the 1.2 TSI definitely provides enough power in town and country lane (actually fun to drive). It has plenty of power on the motorway even without pressing much.

The only time I wanted more power is when I was carrying my whole family (4 including me) and their luggages. You have to prod the accelerator more, it would go, but it affects mpg quite a lot.

The long climbs on motorway are a particular problems when its pack with people, if its just me, its fine and very nippy. So if the trips you are going make are hilly and you regularly carry lots of things then I don't think the 1.2 is the best choice.

I have a Yeti and a Fabia - we are considering changing the Fabia - we have looked at the Polo

Fabia every time - better value for money and a more interesting car

Yes. The Yeti is a little bigger on the outside, a lot bigger on the inside, and has a smaller turning circle by 300mm! Clever Skoda.

Diesels definitely more driveable up hills. The thing I love most is that one can drive quickly in a diesel without passengers noticing the engine revving.

Build quality of Yeti is pretty good. Far superior to that of our 3yr old Polo. Apparently the Czechs are driven to be better than Germans, but Spaniards making Polos are a more relaxed lot.

Hi, I had the same problems as you not enough mileage to justify diesel and plenty of mountainside journeys in Cyprus. Test drove the 1.2 TSI DSG and was impressed but for the extra 1000 euros I went for the 1.4 TSI. Not regretted my choice once.
