  • did you have gap insurance so at least you will get back what you paid for your car?

  • Andyvee I know how an injector works I am a mechanic! What's ur profession? It takes an awfull lot for diesel to ignite so I'm not convinced its anything to do with the injectors themselves.

  • I am not a trained mechanic, I admit. But I have worked in the motor trade for over a decade at main dealers in my younger years and some of the things I have seen beggar belief. I also spent over a d

It's amazing what can get left in and around engine bays.

Did work for a Mazda dealer about 10yr ago, a customer was in going ballistic. A dead rat had been lying on the exhaust manifold of a brand new MX5.

After a few miles the car was filled with smoke scented with decomposing rat. She wanted the reject the car because it now stank of dead rodent. She got it too but the dealer did fight it.

Just found this thread so rang suk they were a little vague at first but when pushed about recall they said to ring dealer.

Rang local dealer they were great ,booked in now next week Ive got one of the last pd,s registered may 08 so when did the pd engine have bosch injectors as apposed to siemens ? before 07 !

I,m running bluefin remap at moment should i take it off before taking it in or will it be safe to leave on ? never had any issues with car apart from exhaust sensor hope this recall wont come back and bite me !

No it was recovered by the police to their agents yard as it was blocking the road. The dealer has given me a courtesy car and I am waiting to hear from their insurance company. Really fed up as just looked on Auto Trader and can't find one with as low mileage for the same kind of money I paid a week ago!!!!

I haven't tried SUK yet as I will see what the dealer comes up with first. Never had to deal with something like this before so don't know what to do for the best.

That's pretty rubbish and I'd hope the dealer will see you good.

I'd be surprised if it was fuel though. I've had derv p*ssing out over a hot engine and never had an issue on old cars, when the injector link pipes split.

If they were fiddling around the back of the engine, I'd think it was more likely a disturbance of something containing brake fluid as that's something that does like to go.

Now obviously I'm speculating, but at the same time hopefully putting peoples minds at rest over the incident.

What I will add is, that if the dealer doesn't see you good, get a direct access barrister (or a solicitor) involved, especially if you have legal cover as if you'd not had the car long IMHO it was either unsafe when you purchased it or the work was done badly.

Something else worth mentioning is that you could just start a court claim.

Since it's civil, it will be on balance of probability not beyond reasonable doubt.

If you look at the facts then I'd say any reasonable person, would say it's probably their fault.

Good luck and please don't give up.

The fire investigation man from the insurace company was fairly convinced that it was caused by oil leaking onto the turbo.I have had no further contact from the dealer and have been paid out by my insurace company and as far as I know they are claiming it back from the dealer.

I now have this car sat on my driveway,

Congrats on the new car. Hope you enjoy it. Bad situation with the last one but you seem to have got through it fairly well. Hope the insurance company treat you well as obviously not your fault.

oh no mine is due in next week but it has been re mapped and dfp is removed. Mine is an o7 bmn engine i am thinking against it now

What a fine colour you have selected for your new wheels, oh, just the same as mine.

Nice one!
