Can I Enable Oil Temp In The Mfd?

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

Quick noob question. I have recently purchased a 2010 140TDI 4x4 Elegance. I've been given a 61 plate 1.2TSI SE Plus while the dealer sort out some issues and I have noticed that one of the options in the MFD is oil temperature display.

Mine is missing some stuff that I don't care about, such as the gear change indicator (it's as it was from the factory, just doesn't have it), but I would like the oil temp display so I know exactly when I can safely use higher revs.

Is it possible to enable this via this VCDS thing I keep reading about?

Thanks!

Phil

i have it on my mfd and I'm sure you can dictate what the mfd shows in the settings

There is no apparent rhyme or reason why it is on some cars and not others. Some people say it is only on cars which are on variable servicing, but it is on mine which is on fixed (which is due for its 2nd service in 1100 miles at 19,000 miles.)

Mine is on variable servicing (I do over 20k miles a year). I know how to use the MFD and change the settings, but Oil Temp isn't there as an option.

So my question remains = can it be enabled or do I have to just live without it? :)

My SE model didn't display oil temp when I picked it up, although the Octavia I traded it in for did. Both were set for time and distance service schedule. After a couple of trips to the dealer they reset the service to variable and oil temp was activated. BUT. Somewhere in the last month there has been a thread started which shows that oil temp can be activated with either service using either VCDS or the dealers own set-up. It just needs know how.

I'm on T & D with a Dec 2011 built CR 170 Elegance - I've never been able to find the Oil Temp and my dealers don't seem to have the ability to activate it.

I'm looking forward to seeing someone local with VCDS in a couple of weeks in the hope that he'll be able to get it displayed for me - it does seem a bit of a lottery as to who has it and who hasn't. I did think it was reserved to the 'variable' service opters but that doesn't seem to be the case as some folks with older builds than me have it on T & D regimes!

All a bit of a Toyah :giggle:

I have a Nov 2010 140 DSG 4x4 on variable servicing and it has had the oil temperature from day one. Does not answer your question I appreciate.

Can't say I've noticed this as an option on the MFD, but wouldn't really understand how it affects my driving, so may have just over looked it.

Slightly off topic in the technical description it notes the Elegance spec has a 'washer fluid level indicator', but haven't noticed this, and it would be helpful as I ran out a few weeks ago(must get timings on headlight washers changed), any idea's where it would be? And what is the two tone horn? its got one tone that i've noticed!

Your water temperature gauge might show that your engine has reached operating temperature, yet the oil temperature normally won't have (it takes a while longer than the water) - so being able to see this means you won't rev the engine too much until BOTH water and oil have reached the correct running temperature.

The washer fluid level indicator is an indicator as shown below and a warning message that comes up on the Maxidot. From the manual page 33:

Two tone horn: both tones sound at the same time. So yes you will just hear "one" tone but they are in fact a combination of two and just sounds "fuller".

Also it has always shown on my 2011 1.2TSi DSG Elegance where it can be turned off/on via the Maxidot's menus -- car is on the annual service regime.

My March 2010 car - 140 elegance - was on variable service and had oil temperature. At 15,000 miles changed to T&D servicing and no longer has oil temperature. Will be going back to variable next service.

Just have it switched back on.

It can be reconnected if the menu has it and it's displaying ---

If its not in the menu I don't think you can.

110 4x4 SE and on fixed service.

Car delivered June 2010 and has oil temp as an option in MFD

Doesn't help you resolve the issue but might help in some other way?

Thanks for your help Johann, the Oil temp gauge would def be useful as you have explained it, I have fixed servicing as part of the 3 years free servicing I got with the car. Don't know if it makes a difference.

I didn't see the washer fluid indicator on, so on the day it seemed empty it might have frozen, but that was the washer fluid that came with the car, bizarre.

As regards the horn, seems bizarre that as you can only hear it as one tone, it isn't listed in the safety spec's as opposed to alongside accessories.

Just got my oil temp gauge back today following change of service regime back to variable :hi:

Just an update on mine - visited a local Briskoda chum (Jonny5ive) who successfully activated the oil Temperature display via VCDS - so much for my (no longer supported) Skoda dealership!)

See: http://www.briskoda....xidot-oil-temp/

When the car is set for variable servicing the oil temp is an option on maxidot. If the car is switched to fixed servicing the oil temperature gets disabled by default - why is a mystery! Just because the variable calculation of miles uses oil temperature in the algorithm seems like a strange reason to default display or not display.

I know this because it happened with mine - I just asked the dealer to reactivate it and 'twas done while I waited!

Last week before my car was serviced,it was on variable servicing and the oil temp' was enabled.I asked the servicing to be set to fixed(time and distance) and can confirm that the oil temp' reading is now no longer visible on the MFD.

Exactly what happened to mine during its first dealer service. The dealer then could find how to put it back. Nor could a second dealer. I took it to Ben at Shark Performance and he sussed it in a minute. Its slightly deeper in VCDS - something like high quality oil used, normal quality oil used, show temp, with a tick box but it was a few years back and I was hovering around him, not specifically concentrating on the changes.

As far as I know mine is on fixed servicing.... and I have 'Oil Temperature' on the Maxidot. October 2012 car.

Just came like this..no VCDS change needed.

December 2010 car-fixed servicing/maxidot shows oil temp. I have no idea why but like 33q it just is.

Just a reminder that changes made to the MFD such as "show Oil Temp" are specific to the key/remote control being used; if you use 2 different keys you need to make the changes for each key.
